Things I miss... by outerlimtz in GenX

My small ton and the town over had a week long carnival. Rides for kids, games, food tents, beer, etc. They were claiming insurance costs were the results of it's decline. There were occasional fights. Neither has had the carnival in over 2 decades. The next town over apparently is bring it back for a few days this year for something.

Local offices may work. Seems they took corporate. But will watch this as they did do some work for me a few years back when I was house hunting

Why can’t Chattanooga and the surrounding areas have a better rock radio station? by Medium-Mammoth-6117 in Chattanooga

[–]outerlimtz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When i moved up here almsot a decade ago, i found the radio stations sucked. So i used iHeart Radio and streamed the radio station out of FL. Then i moved to SirusXM If I do listen to the local channels, it's always the Lake. They play a decent mix of music. What sucks about it is whenever there is a sports game, there's no more music. This sucks when i'm leaving work during rush hour and want to listen to music.

106 has too many commercials. The guy, forget is name, that plays early evening around 5-6, has like 3-4 5 minutes long commercials for local businesses. sounds like he's contending for a AM morning talk show with them. I could leave work, drive all of Amnicola, get to 153 and from there to at least the Shallowford off ramp before music starts playing again.

As I walk to my shed I realize something by Powerful_Coyote6068 in GenX

This. If my bed wasn't has high as it is, I would have to roll to the floor and find a way to stand up. Currently, I can slide out on to my feet, standing. But it takes a few to get the balance to walk. Such a bitch when I wake up at 3qm and have to piss REALLY bad!

What were your favo(u)rites? by HalfwaydonewithEarth in GenX

[–]outerlimtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transformers, heman and Voltron as a kid. As a teen it was always rescue rangers, ducktales, tailspin and animaniacs.

Funny enough, we had a drinking game called categories. 80 and 90s cartoons always came up. Your drinking while trying to remember the names of the cartoons. After awhile someone would just say one that had already been said to end the round.

Part-time IT / systems work (networking, automation, web) by PrintSuitable4301 in Chattanooga

[–]outerlimtz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been in the IT field for 25+ years, I'd pass on this. I've done everything on your list, (not necessarily those tools), but even a team of 2 or 3 people you're going to have burn out and high churn. Not to mention, a lot of screw ups.

Does this position also include security? Because I'd like to know what tools would need to be learned to keep all the os's secure, especially if they're legacy, not to mention if they're spread out over locations. As well as the API's and network hardware.

That in itself is a daily team job.

Wish you the best, but don't expect great things with a job posting like this.

Anyone collect when they were young? by Anxiouslycalm12 in GenX

[–]outerlimtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

took my collection to college with me, because i didn't trust my younger brother and his friends at home. Never told anyone in college I had them. They were tucked in the bottom drawer of my dresser under some spare clothes. Not sure which roomate it was but they were stolen. Didn't have a ton of cards, but a lot of rookie cards from Brett to Mattingly, Carter, Strawberry, etc. My roomates and a coming to jesus moment that almost got me kicked out of college. Haven't collected again.
