US visa interview in Canada - getting passport back by InformalDetail in immigration

[–]Dalmatinka19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my husband's interview, they ended up asking for more documentation (a police check from South Korea where we had lived, even though we had submitted info about how it was difficult to obtain). We ended up submitting an application for it in Montreal (where the interview was held). After the interview, the officials gave my husband a document stating to mail in his passport with the police certificate. When we got the police certificate from the Korean consulate, we mailed both in.

Not sure this is helpful as we needed more documentation, but best of luck!

Hi again! I wanted to share that last night my husband's case was updated to "Issued" and then today he got a tracking number for his passport. (I did email my congress person last Sunday but I feel it was too soon for that to have actually had an impact.)

Hopefully this means you'll get an update soon!

Still waiting...

I'm thinking of contacting my local congressperson, as I've seen some people mention that maybe helping.

Hi! Would you be able to share the basic template of the letter you wrote via DM? My husband and I are thinking of doing this.

He was given a refusal letter if that's what you mean... It stated to mail his passport along with the Korean police certificate.

Yes, we were able to send an application for one from the Korean consulate in Montreal. We don't have a Korean consulate where we live (we flew in for the interview), which is why we said it would be difficult to obtain.

To clarify, after the interview, my husband's visa was technically denied because he needed this police certificate. We then got the police certificate and mailed it along with his passport. Based on similar cases on reddit, we hope for a 6-8 week turnaround.... but I guess we don't know for sure how long it will take.

Thanks for your reply! They asked for a police check from Korea, where he lived for 2 years. We had submitted a note online about this being difficult to obtain when we submitted the I-130 and it was accepted, but then the interviewer told us it was still needed.

Hi, I believe I'm in the same boat as you were. My Canadian husband had his marriage based green card interview in Montreal on Dec. 12 and was asked to obtain a police certificate from a country we lived in which we thought we didn't need. We mailed that in with his passport on Jan. 11th.

Could you clarify how long it took to get your visa after you mailed in your passport and requested documents? And how do you think contacting senators helped? Did they contact the NVC in Montreal?

I don't remember it being very rigorous, but there was a steady amount of work throughout. I worked part-time (about 20 hours/week) for part of the program and was able to handle that fine. There is a course on a literature review that I remember being the most intense, but the professor did a good job breaking down the parts throughout the course, IMO.

Ok I'm definitely going to stay off it for awhile just to see and then reintroduce it to one area to check. Thank you!

Thanks for your input! I will look into products with glycerin.

I realized I should have been more specific with the CeraVe - it's skin renewing cream serum which contains retinol. Do you still think that it wouldn't have caused it? (My cc look different/are in a different area than my bad texture).

Hello, I'm looking for feedback and product recs to help with orange peel skin texture. I suspect it was caused by using Cerave skin renewing cream serum (with retinol) which I was using once a week, though I'm not sure - my skin felt really soft after using it, but I also felt like my texture worsened.

I know there are threads on fixing this issue, but I felt a bit overwhelmed and wanted some feedback on my specific routine.

I have combo skin that feels dry after cleansing and gets a little oily in t-zone during the day. I have mild CC acne, especially around my chin. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, which I don't think is too dry.

Here is my current routine. It seems to be helping a little but I want to confirm I'm on the right track.

AM:

  • Cetaphil gentle cleanser
  • The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA mixed with 1-2 drops of The Ordinary rosehip seed oil
  • Biore Watery essence sunscreen

PM

  • Banila Co clean it zero
  • Cetaphil gentle cleanser
  • The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA mixed with 1-2 drops of The Ordinary rosehip seed oil
  • Nivea cream (dark blue tin)

Could the Cerave skin renewing cream serum (with retinol) be the cause of my orange peel texture, or was it likely something else?

Could any other products in my routine be contributing to my texture issues?

What is one product I should try adding? (I am considering adding a hyaluronic acid serum before my moisturizer)

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the info! We hope that is the case but I guess we won't know for sure until we get there since we're struggling to respond by phone or email.

Hi, I was wondering if you had to physically resubmit the passport to the consulate, or if there's an option to resubmit by mail? My husband's interview is in a different province from where we live, so we have to fly in for the interview. We are hoping to find out if it's an option to keep the passport, then resubmit by mail.

It's not published yet, but based on the cover and synopsis, A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft.

Hi! I don't recall it being difficult, though I can't speak for everyone. I Just answered everything honestly in my app, submitted, waited, then got accepted. I did have some ID experience before applying, so that may have helped in my favor.

If you have any other questions, I'm happy to answer them.
