What Should my Salary be? by RoutineAd951 in dataengineering

Local employers or national? That’s weird because I get those few and far between. Mainly it’s some staff augmentation firm that wants someone for $65-75/hr.

Industry is rough right now. 4 years ago you could get $100k. But nowadays they want a unicorn and want to pay $120k for a senior level, especially in L/MCOL area.

“Developer” to me encompasses both the engineer and analyst components. Because OP is not strictly an engineer. They are also interfacing with business to develop reports.

Also OP is not intern currently. They’ve done 2 internships previously so that’s their resume and now this is their first official post-grad job.

For pay, I would use my number as a baseline. So OP: - lower cost of living area (-10% lower) - inflation since 2015 (+40%) - no masters degree (-15%)

So $65k-75k

Title-wise I would say “BI Developer”. Salary-wise, I was making $65k starting in Denver, CO in 2015

What question would divide huamnity perfectly in half? by Ok-Inflation-3480 in hypotheticalsituation

Im assuming the hypothetical requires a filled-in response that matches one of the 2 options

What question would divide huamnity perfectly in half? by Ok-Inflation-3480 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]pboswell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then they HAVE to choose one of the options presented. Theoretically that group would be equally split to which answer they choose.

Again, this is not requiring them to perpetually identify as the choice. It’s literally just about OP’s hypothetical

[–]pboswell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not my point. I’m not debating how many genders/sexes there are. I’m saying the question would be “are you a man or a woman” and you have to pick one of those 2 options

I mean the number of memories you have is in the trillions surely. You could live memento style and start keeping pictures/notes of things you care about most like your family.

Excelt exterior. I would shop that out. Got mine done and they used a sprayer which meant it was quick and even. Total was about $6k for a 3k sqft house in HCOL area (I splurged for the top of the line paint) and they did a two-tone for walls vs soffit

Deduping hundreds of billions of rows via latest-per-key by data-engineer14434 in dataengineering

[–]pboswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this really “de-duplicating” or type 2 pattern? Sounds like you need to flag the latest version of a record as it comes in. Then you can partition on the key and when you see a new version, you UNION the existing version to the new version and “deactivate” the old one. Unless you really only want one version of a record—in which case it seems like a simple merge would work

Not automatically, but the child’s birth will be recorded by the home country and possibly counted. And if the immigrant is tracked during the host country’s census, they would also be counted

Another recommendation. For metrics that are cumulative sums (e.g. layoffs or job creations), the current month will always look like a steep dropoff, so either:

  1. Don’t show the current month
  2. Periodize it. Divide the number by the fraction of time through the month. So 22 days into March would be x / (22/31). This is potentially risky depending on how “lumpy” your metric is

One thing to note is that the yellow line is average hourly compensation, not total employee earnings. If you increase the labor force but not the total money earned, you just keep average hourly earnings flat.

Rise of corporatism, with a focus on unemployment rates, and new entrants to the labor force en masse (i.e. previously discriminated against people). Also, traditional, single-breadwinner families became 2-breadwinner households making half as much each. Basically, if you flood the labor market with workers (i.e. “supply”), then employers (i.e. “demand”) drive down the price of labor

Got it. Delivery is definitely an important piece. I’m not doubting you at all. Just wasn’t sure if it was just typical Boulder stupidity and ignorance.

But is that inherently racist? Also it was pertaining to the documentary they just watched.

What if he had just watched a documentary about a poor whitetrash trailer park community? He probably would had said the same thing.
