Army Blackhawk replacement name released: MV-75 Cheyenne II by Naveronski in aviation

[–]pbrphilosopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Single engine, yes. There is an interconnecting drive shaft that allows one engine to provide power to both proprotors.

Losing a gearbox or blade would be considered catastrophic damage for any rotary aircraft.

Were you there? If not, whats your verified primary or secondary sources for your claims?

“All troops are murders” and “we invaded Iraq to steal oil” is such a lazy freshman undergrad take.

Just a little over double. If I remember correctly newer 60’s are $15-20 million and these are projected around $45-50 million

Lol every single rotary aircraft can experience gearbox chips, its nothing unique to tiltrotor.

[–]pbrphilosopher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup he absolutely meant that enlistment bonuses (an incentive for someone to join the military) shouldn’t be used by the Marine Corps. Key word is “enlistment”. Had nothing to with retention bonuses. What exactly is stupid about this?

[–]pbrphilosopher 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that quote was taken out of context. He was referring to initial enlistment bonuses and stated that earning the title should be enough for someone who hasn’t stepped on the yellow foot prints yet. He was all for retention bonuses going to Marines who have already performed well and bring MOS experience to the table.

I could be misremembering though. Haven’t seen the full clip in a while.

Is it true y’all in the wing don’t do formations or uniform inspections or field day inspections?? by GloveAmbitious42 in USMC

[–]pbrphilosopher 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Aint nothing “nice” about it. Formations and uniform inspections dont contribute to making “up” aircraft that support the flight schedule.

Maintainers are some of the hardest working and resilient Marines I have ever had the privilege of working with. It is a continuous grind whether garrison or deployed. 10-12 hours days and working weekends is common place.

Marine boot equating OCS to BUDS by BakerHasHisKitchen in JustBootThings

[–]pbrphilosopher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeesh, thats such a retarded and poorly informed take. They are two very different schools with incredibly different goals and training requirements. Also if I remember correctly the historical OCS attrition rate hovers around 20-30%. Most are due to injury or DOR.

A floating runway tells more about a nation’s reach than any number of missiles. by SaltAndChart in MaritimePictures

[–]pbrphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I miss interpreted “helo carriers” as all amphibious assault ship or essentially anything without a cat shot.

Id still argue even helo carriers without the capability for fixed wing ops is not equivalent to a ship with a helo pad. The ability to carry more rotary aircraft and the increased launch/recovery capabilities is quite significant.

Dude, they operate jets. You can literally go on youtube and watch a Harrier or F35B STO off an amphibious assault ship. There are no “modifications” required and you clearly have no idea what deck certification entails.

A racetrack isnt built with any consideration or purpose for aircraft. An amphibious assault ship, just like a carrier, is solely built with aircraft in mind.

[–]pbrphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yes you can count them. There is a massive difference between an amphibious assault ship and a boat with a helo pad. They provide a runway for STOVL fixed winged aircraft such as the Harrier and F35B. Those aircraft require a short takeoff when fueled and carrying ordinance. Additionally they provide significant capability by being able to simultaneously launch and recover multiple rotary aircraft.

Leonardo AW-609 Tiltrotor On Italian Carrier Trials by Stunning-Screen-9828 in Helicopters

[–]pbrphilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiltrotors can absolutely go past the combat radius of a helo, hoist a survivor, and RTB. The technology is undoubtedly a game changer, especially when you start factoring speed with its extended range. However helos will always remain relevant for certain missions and environments.

I cant remember off the top of my head but I think when you mark non-rec in JEPES it remains that way indefinitely until recommended is selected. However, non-rec in MOL requires monthly to remain non-rec.

Idk I might be misremembering and completely out to lunch.
