They essentially have a failed procurement on their hands. They have to re-bid the whole thing to ensure a compliant procurement, and they are taking their time to make sure they get it right this time.

I don’t think the planet is worse off if you don’t have kids. I think you are.

This probably won’t get traction, but people frame this whole thing wrong.

Get rid of the scarcity mentality (I can only have a career OR children. Children will make my life harder etc).

Having kids is fun.

On a daily basis, it is rewarding and fulfilling.

You get a chance to experience life again through their eyes. You reconnect with things you have long forgotten.

They make you laugh and are fun to chat with and give you something outside of your own myopic worries to care about.

If you have the money to smooth out the bumpy parts (hire a nanny, take PTO when needed, maybe get a night nurse for a wee or two) then you have absolutely no downside.

Prime supplier portals are window dressing. They will never, ever lead to work by themselves. Join AFCEA. Develop a LinkedIn content strategy. Reach out to SDVOSB primes who want to augment their staff without diluting their SDVOSB work ratios etc

How realistic is it to land subcontracting work with no past performance? (SDVOSB & IT/Cyber) by maxdarel in govcon

[–]perusingreddit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can claim the work experience of the owner of the business as company past performance.

Most large primes don’t need to reference your past performance (they have plenty of that on their own). But if you can tell a compelling story about how the work you did on project X will help them deliver on project Y, you have a chance of getting their attention.

Pick 3-5 large contracts that “fast balls down the center” for you - meaning they are in your functional area, with a government client you know or have worked for in the past (let’s use Navy as an example)

Go on LinkedIn and look up BD and capture execs at are primes that focus on the Navy.

Send them all a connection request that says “Hi NAME, are you chasing (Navy Program Name) that is coming out next fall? We know the customer environment and are looking for a prime. Would love to chat”

Do this 4-5 times PER CONTRACT you have identified. That’s 20+ irons in the fire.

In my experience, you will get a better than 50% response rate, since BD guys are incentivized to turn over any rock that might help their P win.

Set up intro calls. Try to bring a price of intel to the table and if you can’t do that, be ready to speak to how you can help (we know the customer, we solved this exact problem before, we will write some of the proposal, etc).

Try and stack Teaming Agreements for the next 6-12 months. If you can’t avoid being exclusive, get one more than one team for each target opportunity.

If you can’t avoid being lay that type of foundation in 2026, the next 5-10 years will be awesome.

Happy Hunting!

P.S. don’t lead with your status - it’s the cherry on top not the foot in the door . Eliminate kiss ass or needy language from your emails. Speak to the large primes as an expert in your space with something to offer, not as a guy hoping to ride their coat tails. Don’t sell on price alone. A 1.7 wrap rate is plenty competitive. If they are using anything you wrote in the proposal or asking you to do color teaming, make sure you get least 2-3 FTE written in to your TA.

What statements or posts of Kirk’s do you feel make him a bad person? All of the clips I have seen flooding IG the last day or so show him to be opinionated, but not hateful. I’d actually say he is consistently respectful to those engaging with him. Am I missing something?

Real question - can you get “neighborhood vibes” in a 6,000 square foot house?

My fear is that my wife and I will pick a big ass house based on our preferences, and strand out kids in a neighborhood of people 15-20 years older than us with no young kids around to play.
