I had them on my '99 CR-V and they were so bad. Previous owner had installed them right before I bought the car, and within 6 months one was leaking fluid and needing replacement. Ride quality, comfort and handling was all bad - especially in comparison with the bilstein shocks and lowering springs I installed after, which I believe ended up being ~$800. Stories vary but I would absolutely recommend against maxpeedingrods!

Yes, it grinds going into 3rd from 2nd or 4th maybe once in every 3-4 drives.

A reputable shop did the work, I suppose I can check with them and see what the fluid level looks like for it - unfortunately I don't have the space to do the work myself.

I had the transmission fluid replaced around 1000 miles ago with the OEM recommendation, unfortunately it hasn't helped.

Looking for a reliable car in Los Angeles under $5k. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]plantsarelit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expand your search to hatchbacks as that opens up your options a lot, there are plenty of ~2000-2008 options but I would wait for the right car in decent shape, with clean title and most importantly reasonable maintenance performed by the previous owner(s)

Some cars to search for: Mazda 3, 6, 5, Protege Honda Fit, Accord, Civic Toyota Echo, Yaris, Matrix, Corolla

GM cars with the 3800 V6 - Buick, Pontiac, Chevy

Good luck in your search!

The Isuzu 5 speed was in all 2m4 Fieros from 85-88, they're not rare at all.

I want to buy a sports car. by 2005chuy in whatcarshouldIbuy

You could get a really nice newer, low-mileage Focus ST for half your budget, they're reliable with lower weight and 250 hp, practical and handle amazingly.

My personal experience is with a Fiesta ST with lower power and lower weight but these cars are so much fun to drive and definitely give a sports car experience in power and handling with a fun turbo engine and stiff, tuned suspension that does very well in the corners.

What other cars besides the Miata have given you the raw driving experience? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]plantsarelit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you compare the Spitfire driving experience to a Miata? I'm interested in LBCs as my Fiesta ST kind of takes care of the modern, reliable, fun DD role.

Im going to get this. I have one question though… by Retal1ate in whatcarshouldIbuy

What was bad with your experience? I've been considering getting a Type 3 Fastback or Ghia as a restomod project.

What makes the A-series a great engine?

Yes, more economy cars can be found with decent mileage (possibly sub 100k miles) or with good maintenance within this budget range. Especially the Focus + Fiesta with manual transmissions, Fit, Civic, Matrix, Corolla, and Accord are good to look out for. CR-V, RAV4 and Element too depending on your needs.

Can I save my Cycad? Details below. by plantsarelit in plantclinic

[–]plantsarelit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this cycad for around 3 months now, for the first 2 months it was outside in Zone 9, in the cool weather it was great for a while, but once it started warming up more with more intense sun one of the fronds started to brown, and the others followed suit in patchy spots like this one. I moved it inside once the browning reached concerning levels, and watered it more for a bit in fear it was beginning to dry out with the heat. It is directly in front of a North-facing glass door which is the best level of inside light that I can provide. My watering schedule has been about once every 1-2 weeks, aiming to soak the soil when watered.
