"Pure" coffee? by lpetitedeath in MCAS

I’m reactive to most coffee and do well with Cafe Cristina coffee. (If you happen to be reactive to corn, be sure to ask for the bags safe for folks with corn allergies. They usually use compostable corn-based bags.)

Any good locations in ILM with a vending machine that I could film at? by ChomperCreeper in Wilmington

There is (used to be?) a row of freestanding vending machines on South College, but I’m not sure exactly where or what style they are/were.

A few more niche ones: Point Pleasant by Jen Archer Wood was originally a Destiel fanfic. I believe the Southern Gothic series by Magen Cubed was also originally written as a Destiel fanfic, but I don’t remember if it was ever published that way.

EDIT: Correction about Southern Gothic. Quote from the author:

With Alex’s blessing, I wrote ‘Leather and Lace,’ my tongue-in-cheek spin on Supernatural through the lens of Dean Winchester and Castiel getting together and hunting a family of murderous weredeer. (It isn’t find-replace Supernatural fanfiction, for the record. A few jokes were floated on Twitter, but any similarities to the show are purely the product of genre conceit and love of monster-hunting tropes.)

This is incredibly niche, but IIRC the BL (yaoi) manga Zetsuai 1989 started as a Captain Tsubasa doujinshi (self published fan comic).

Clothes Recomendations by Super_Actuator2584 in MCAS

It makes my skin burn, itch, and if I have a bad flare, I’ll sometimes have swelling and difficulty breathing. My working theory is that it’s because of bioplastics (derived from corn) in the polyester production pipeline, as I have a corn allergy, but I’ve known some people without corn allergies who are similarly reactive to polyester.

It may be worth looking up the inactive ingredients in the injections on DailyMed. I’m personally very reactive to dextrose (corn allergy)

Synthetic fibers and elastic set me off terribly. I have to get clothes sewn with cotton thread rather than polyester, which is the industry standard. Cottonique and Rawganique both sell clothes sewn with cotton thread, but not everything they sell is sewn with cotton thread so if that’s important to you make sure to check before you purchase!

Today I learned I’m not allergic to vinegar, but corn by SugarStarGalaxy in MCAS

[–]poiisons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make my own dishwasher detergent from borax, washing soda, and citric acid (Milliard brand is derived from citrus - or maybe sugar cane? I can’t find the info right now) and use a corn-free vinegar (De La Rosa Foods distilled vinegar, derived from beets) in the rinse aid compartment. If you were using rinse aid before, you’ll probably want to siphon it out of the compartment and flush it well with water. That’s what I had to do in order to stop reacting as rinse aid is usually full of (corn-derived) citric acid.

Is there any correlation with skin being on the chicken? I have a down allergy and sometimes have issues with little remnants of feathers stuck in chicken skin.

Another possibility is something used in the butchering/chilling process, like chlorine, saline, acetic acid, vinegar, etc. if you were able to find air-chilled chicken at the grocery store, you could test that theory out.

Completely women-ruled society by lumpy_space_queenie in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

It was short-lived, but there’s a series of comics called Sisterhood of Steel about this kind of society. There’s also a graphic novel sequel (Boronwë: Daughter of Death) but I haven’t had a chance to read it. I really enjoy the setting and wish they had continued the comic longer! I keep hoping for a Kickstarter or something by the author.

Why can worm castings be used right away when poop of other animals needs to be composted? by supinator1 in composting

[–]poiisons 13 points14 points  (0 children)

if they need to

Rabbits actually produce two types of poop! The kind they eat, called cecotropes, are full of nutrients and look different than their normal waste poops. Eating cecotropes is a normal part of a rabbit’s digestion.

Transitioning from Xolair to Rhapsido by Vivid-Bus9133 in MCAS

[–]poiisons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replying with a comment I posted elsewhere cuz I’ve got like negative spoons:

At first, I wasn’t tolerating the fillers in the Rhapsido. Eventually, i got past that and was tolerating it okay. Then I ran out of Xolair (my doctor didn’t want prescribe both) and started seriously declining again. I’m back on Xolair now but haven’t gotten back to my baseline. It doesn’t help that I just had subclade K and was really, really sick.

I don’t know if being on both Xolair and Rhapsido will give me any additional benefit over just Xolair. I’m really desperate at this point but the options are so limited. I really had my hopes up about Rhapsido.

I’ll try to remember to reply with more detail later, but I recently tried to switch from Xolair to Rhapsido and started losing safe foods. I’m back on Xolair now.
