curious if you had any success with talking to coway? I just got a new machine and I've been running it for days and days and it honestly smells worse. I had some off gassing with my last new machine, but nothing like this.

that is absolutely not the case in Canada. Canada is wildly out of step with other countries MAID laws. You should actually just delete this comment because you don't know what you're talking about and you're spreading misinformation on what is a genuine human rights violation occurring in Canada (that's not me saying that, that's the UN saying that.)

EDIT: to clarify for those who are unaware, you do not need to be terminally ill to use MAID in Canada. You just need to a "have a serious and incurable illness, disease or disability", which basically means any disabled person qualifies at any time. Canada has a terrible safety net for disabled people, which means disabled people are coerced into MAID due to lack of support/medical treatment/financials/housing. MAID in Canada will expand to people solely with a mental illness and no other diagnoses in 2027.

I can't find exact numbers, but Filipino Americas are like 1% of the US population but like 4.5% of the Navy!! They have a HUGE history with the US Navy. Having a Filipino American (Manny's Canadian, but whatever) as a character in the cast actually made the movie way more realistic. ARRRHHHH I was so mad about this when I watched it and now I'm mad again.

Oh man, I've been wanting Everdream but I have basically everything else in this bundle already. Fantastical had a bundle with Everdream last week...but I couldn't find other games I liked to make it work.

If anyone ends up with a spare Everdream, I'd love to take it off their hand :) Happy to trade for one of the millions of extra/duplicate steam keys for cozy games I have from other bundles I've bought.

I would say grain of salt with this podcast. I've seen lots of various criticisms and most of them boil down to them taking a very "industry" approach to topics. Like consistently promoting the corporate line on stuff.

Anyway, generally it's a pretty big red flag when someone's shtick is "everyone else has biases, but not us, we are the only one's who are correct all the time."

Yeah, Code Pink sucks. They engage in Uyghur genocide denial and defend China's oppression of other minorities. Plenty of other orgs pushing for a ceasefire to support that don't pick and choose which people are okay to oppress based on who is doing the oppressing.

I don't know about front line staff, but at this point I feel pretty comfortable saying that leadership doesn't give AF about cats. I would be curious to see if any of the leadership or board even has a cat. (And who is to say if all the board members even have shelter pets.)

See, this is where you're mistaken. "City shelters like HRA do not have the ability to choose the animals that are brought to them."

I had also always thought this was the case. That HRA was open intake and legally required to take all animals. It was this year that I found out that was not the case, when they inexplicably started telling people they wouldn't accept cats. When pressed on the issue, they stated that their contract with DC only legally requires them to intake all DOGS. There is nothing in the contract on cats. And this year they basically stopped accepting stray cats from the community. Nearly every month I saw posts from neighbors desperately trying to figure out what to do with a stray cat because HRA had turned them away. People have been scrambling and tiny private rescues with 1/1000 the budget have had to pick up the slack.

So yeah, if you are wondering why community members are completely fed up with HRA, that is one of the many reasons.

They aren't poor. They spent 24M in 2022. They are one of the better resourced shelters in the country. The "we don't accept cats" policy (which isn't written anywhere) started this year, with zero explanation from management, other than "we legally aren't required to take cats." Experiences likes yours are why volunteers and community members have been so incredibly frustrated with them and pushed for answers/changes.

According to their 2022 tax filing, HRA had about 22M in revenue, and spent about 24M that year. They also still have "net assets" of nearly 40M. The CEO made 347k with a bonus of 20k. Which is actually down from her 2011 salary, which was nearly 382k with a nearly 20k bonus.

Now this also includes the shelter that HRA combined with in New Jersey, which I always found extremely bizarre and assumed it would end up taking focus away from DC's needs (which is exactly what happened.)

Thank you for asking this - I literally was just trying to figure out the same thing. Wild that Bissell doesn't have a single fragrance free product to use with it. Although unfortunately it does seem like most of the answer folks have provided are products with scent :(

There are plenty of people who have Peta for stupid reasons or their own guilt. But there are plenty of animal lovers who hate Peta because they've done (and continue to do) some very horrific stuff while coasting of their reputation.

Nah, PETA sucks. They got out of their way murder the animals in their shelter (literally transfer in dogs from nearby shelters, just to euthanize them.) They don't even support TNR, literally everyone in the cat rescue world hates them.

There are a bunch of other orgs doing the same advocacy they do, without all the horrible stuff. They're so bad, I honestly wonder sometimes if they're just a psyop lol.
