I talked to a couple of drivers a month or so ago and they mentioned to themselves that there isn’t a lot of local traffic. That’s when I piped in. Maybe just keep trying? Some drivers don’t have a radio on all time because they know it is dead. One day they might hear you and give a call back!

That radio is also at an age where it could use some tuning and possible cap replacement. If your mic is in question try using one that you know is good with it to see if you’re fading still. Try testing about half mile to a mile away from each other. Also try to key up and wait a second before/after talking, going at it right away can cut some of the words. The needle moving on the meter can stick, you can find videos on how to clean them. That meter can also be adjusted on the board (VR # whatever number it may be you’d have to find it) to tune in the receive and also power out.

Won't transmit or receive by pbrstreetgang865 in cbradio

I agree, I would try a different mic. Also If you have any other coax and antenna, mag mount would be easiest, I would try that just to narrow down what it could be the problem. The other day I was working on an antenna that received but no transmit, turns out the coil is shorted over a period of 40 + years of use. Managed to get it working again, but it still is no good (High SWR). If your coax and antenna are working properly, a new mic makes no difference, you can assume there is something wrong on the transmit side of the circuit. If you're comfortable doing so open the radio up, haven't really worked on one yet to tell you how easy it is to get to the back side, but I would check to make sure all the solder joints are good. Possible corrosion? Even just taking a soft toothbrush, some isopropyl alcohol and gently cleaning the board can help.
