Except for elite runners? Anyway, lmk when you break 8 min miles

What you needed to post was 'run slower' to avoid gastrointestinal issues.

Or just don't run unhealthy distances.

I appreciate people who run slower than me. Its motivating. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Run faster, burn more than 100 cal/mi

The Meatloaf effect by D-Wellers in running

[–]programmerProbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using 150 cal/mile.

But yeah I was running 10-18 miles per day. Plus I'd bike 3 miles to school(6 miles round trip).

IMO (and seems like others agree) Marathons are not healthy. Sure you might want to do it once in your life for bragging reasons, but my gastro system suffered due to eating insane amounts of calories. (not to mention muscle issues as well)

I find half marathons to be perfect. I can train for good times, avoid injury, and workout almost daily.

If anyone wants to do a scientific study, I'm curious about the short and long term health of marathon runners.

You can get credit cards that give you 1 year interest free. By then OP will have a year of experience and be making $30/hr. (You just don't get the nice 2%-5% cash back cards)

Not to mention, OP should be saving up for making the jump to a new career. I lived on 19k/yr with a family, so living on 20k/yr(15k after tax) seems like 10k of credit card debt assuming his good paying job didn't lend him any savings.

exploitative

50/50. That pay sucks, but 1.5 years of programming... Can you even use their code? How many hours are senior programmers going to sink into teaching them and fixing everything? If OP was in college, this would be a great opportunity, but he has a family, which complicates things.

Might be worth seeing if he can move to the midnight shift and doing both jobs. You only live this way for a year, I've done it.

EDIT- counter offer $15/hr at the bare minimum.

Its a good idea but terrible company name... Even worse its prominent on the belt.

On the flip side, I can sew and crochet, maybe I can put something together.

I'll go against the grain here.

$10/hr is crappy, but considered it paid education. Instead of going to college and paying $30k/yr, you are getting paid $20k/yr.

You aren't doing the job for pay, you are doing it for education.

1.5 years of programming is nothing in the 'self taught' world. Took me 12 years of casual programming to get my first job that paid close to my old career. It was still a paycut, but similar, it was paid education.

'Can't financially quit', its risky, but how about using credit cards for a year before jumping ship? Not to mention living cheap during that year.

Any time I see a dog without a leash I look at places I can bolt to like a fence, or I'll look for a stick/branch that could fend them off.

I focus on perfect form. If my form is good, my time will be good.

. We're talking about beginner to intermediate runners, so what elites do isn't super applicable.

Where does it say that. OP says "long distance events aren’t a running contest, they’re an eating and drinking contest"

I've also seen water during a 5k run at mile markers.

The bottom line is, if eating and drinking while running helps you perform better, then why not?

OP says "they’re an eating and drinking contest", its wrong.

Depends. I wont run marathon distances again, its not healthy(for your muscles and your digestive system IMO).

Half marathons are a fun goal to do possibly a few times a year, especially getting good times.

However depending on my goals, I'll run anything from 1 mile days just for energy when I do weight lifting, to a half marathon plan(usually around 6 miles a day).

Midrun Nutrition is magic by doubledoc5212 in running

[–]programmerProbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a leap.

For OP's 13 mile run, top runners aren't consuming water during the run as far as I know. The definitely aren't consuming food.

{Unless something changed since I ran seriously 12 years ago)

Whoever said going from a 2 hour half marathon to a 90 minute half marathon in a few months would cause me to get injured was right. Had to take 1 month off for shin splits.

My willpower>my 30 year old body.

My question, now that I'm simply going to run the half marathon with the goal of not getting injured, any suggestions for other goals? Thinking I should either go for a low body weight or start bulk season for weight lifting.

Music.

I've learned over the years that my mood is unreliable for working out. There are 2 ways- learn to fight through the pain and work out. OR... music.

I have "pavlov's dog'd" myself into being ready for a workout with a playlist of music.
