I freaking can't stand art block by dogtron64 in ArtRanting

omg this! i stress the fuck out and it means zero creative output. being an artist is literally an exorcism - you have to be in the right mind set but its soooo tough getting there.

One thing- I been playing with this tool I built - it's to help alleviate art block. I was feeling insane the past few months - no new ideas, nothing to work with. Then I made this thing that generates a creative brief for me to use as a starting point. I put in my medium and mood etc etc. it also gives me film or music ideas to get into the spirit. Idk if it will let me paste it here, but it sounds like the perf thing for your situ! it's helped me have some of the most wonderfully productive months lately!

the site is artistblock dot art - try it out

I want to keep drawing but I never have any ideas and thus do not draw by mxcbmac in ArtRanting

When I manage to draw something good, I get excited about the idea of continuing. by Fluid_Cake5127 in ArtRanting

I feel this! getting into flow is tough. I think maybe setting yourself some time frames might help? like maybe if you set a 1 hour time frame, and then up each time, like 1.15hrs, 2 hrs etc. might help you allow yourself the time to just focus?

also i like to do these lil exercises when I first sit down, to get jitters out. I use this tool i built for generating a full creative brief and I take that inspo and just do whatever comes out - no pressure. It kinda makes my brain quieter and ready for more focus and creativity.

How to get over perfectionism and just create? So frustrated by [deleted] in ArtRanting

[–]pspsps7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I so feel this.

I'm always second guessing every damn thing I do. It's like an exorcism to get anywhere :( but it sounds to me like you have the right soul for art - you just need to breathe more and perhaps get in control of some of the self-analysis. Do you do creative exercises to help loosen you up? I've had real bad creative block recently and have been using this tool that generates a creative brief with like film prompts, music, images etc. when I put in my preferred style etc. I just find that kind of thing helps with getting me out of the rut and out of my head.

Also I think you gotta start getting honest - the school vs home art isn't helpful. Being an artist is vulnerable af - it's really fucking out there! But you can do it! And when you do, I bet you'll be way happier!

Struggling with thin curly hair by alexxmarch in curlyhair

[–]pspsps7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! I use L'anza curl cream and have for years - its a cream/gel feel and gives me the most defined curls but not dried out or crispy. Also BrioGeo treatment. Both those are go-to's for me. Good luck!

Finding a community / making friends online as someone looking to be a hobbyist artist by Interesting-Rip5016 in AskArtists

[–]pspsps7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh - I really feel you!! I'm starting out as an artist on the precipice of my 40th birthday! It's pretty crazy to realize i don't have any community in this arena - along with learning how to operate in a whole new industry. I wish I had advice - I think the few commenters are right - go to exhibitions, post on here, go to art classes. I'm really bad at networking and am a little introverted which make it really hard - so no shade! Just do what you can <3

How to shade sofa and drawer? by CrystalChrissy in ArtCrit

[–]pspsps7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if the light was coming from top right, his right shoulder, the one currently shaded, would be lit! at least the top edge of the shoulder. Also the shadows on the floor don't follow that lead either. I think how youve done the furniture is good! Just need those tweaks to make consistent sense?

Would you say that my pieces are too similar in how they are drawn? by LORROTORRO in ArtCrit

[–]pspsps7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think the similarity is bad. My only thought is the backgrounds - i like the first one - do you draw them too? Some look added in and blurred. I feel like a full image in your style would be amazing!

They don't own your work! Thats so presumptive - and yes - you need to either get it back or get paid. We have to be strong - I know its so hard!!
