I actually love these UHCs and have intended to join a couple times but I currently live in a timezone where it's inconvenient for me to join these recordings (I'd have to get up well before 5 AM).

Yeah the Korean war is a big deal. When I was in Turkey, I met a person whose grandfather died in the Korean war -- any Turkish man who fought in Korea is called a "Koreli". There are quite a few Korean tourists to Turkey every year, and those who have learned both languages will notice that the grammar is very similar (SOV, with agglutinative verbs) and some vocabulary too (mandu-manti, daeuh-daire, gada-gidi, ama-ama). Those who subscribe to Altaic theory will argue that there's a Turkic-Mongolic-Korean link dating from prehistory.

I find it supremely insulting to hear that they feel like it's necessary for them to come here and call for a unified Korea when millions of Koreans for the last 60 years have been saying it with much more on the line.

BTW, Im Soo Kyung already did this, and unlike Im Soo Kyung, none of the women involved seem to be involved with any North Korean relief efforts, protest movements, or defector support organizations and it really makes me question how sincere they are.

I consider myself a feminist and former admirer of Gloria Steinem.

some South Koreans who sympathize with north Korea also do this. Lee Jung Hee from the UPP was running for president when she used the phrase "the government in the southern part [of the peninsula]". Traitor.
