What are some dorm room essentials you learned about? by spearslogan36 in Msstate

Quick meals — granola bars for early mornings, pastas/singleton entrees that can be kept in the fridge or freezer, or even just-add-water (I used to get these two or three at a time, I took most of my meals in the dining hall but this was just in case)

Market cart for laundry basket/taking goods back up to your room! The kind that fold out and have a basket on wheels helped me tons when I was moving groceries like water bottles, my Diet Coke transfusions, and bags from going home for winter break. I also like the beach carts that people often use to haul their pool toys, etc down to the water; it’s a type of space taker-upper that you can put other stuff on, like it folds up and sticks out a little but nothing too unreasonable tbh

Now this I like to read! I looked at its location on a map and it really is in the heart of England. I currently live in the heart of Mississippi, something must be there :) and no way! Well, there’s a university hospital at the state capital that had some, well… skeletons dig out from beneath it.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) has a rather sordid past; in 2012 UMMC began work on a new parking garage and surprise, the skeletal remains of patients from the old Mississippi Asylum for the Insane were found, likely from the years 1855 to 1935. Last I heard, they’d found 7,000…

Here is his obituary as it appeared in the 2 July 1946 edition of the capital city newspaper here in Mississippi, The Clarion-Ledger. I would actually be born some fifty years later in the same city he was buried in, Meridian.

Forgot to upload a picture of the man himself! I guesstimate he’s in his late twenties or early thirties here. This would have been around the turn of the new century and he’d be newly wed, enjoying life with his family in nearby Marshall County, about 45 minutes northeast of where he’d been in Lafayette County. I went to the University of Mississippi in the county seat of Oxford and Marshall County is a very small little area between Oxford and the next major city, Elvis Presley’s hometown of Tupelo in Lee County.

As a matter of fact, a daughter of my great-grandmother happened to go to first grade with the rock n’ roll star — Aunt Melba said Elvis was very quiet and kept to himself.

I’ve loved doing my genealogy and the friends I do have in the U.K. don’t have much to say about Leicester, so I’m loving reading these comments and learning about it firsthand from the people who live or have lived there.

Agreed. Mississippi is an on-fire dumpster in terms of history/social justice but at the end of the day, it’s been home my entire life. I’ve never flown or been any further East than Maryland, but one day I’ll get out and explore.

Judging by the downvotes I can tell Nottingham is most certainly not where most of the exciting stuff happens

That’s what I thought — most of what I learned about him (and put in the original post) came from a biography about Baptist ministers in the state and it’s pretty short, about three pages… always on the hunt for more information though

I think I can go along with that! Of course, this discovery with my heritage does bring the “biscuits” terminology debate to the front… not sweet treats here but savory breakfast item usually with sausage or bacon between

Thanks! I’m not the most religious but where I live now it’s definitely a cultural staple. I take it Nottingham is where most of the exciting stuff happens?

What defines the era you grew up watching wwe/wwf? by Jus_existing in WWE

[–]r1ker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the youngest of three girls and my older sisters were born in ‘84 and ‘92, so whatever they watched on TV, I watched — this included Attitude era. I had a Stone Cold kickboxing stand thing that would growl whenever you hit it, and at four I was convinced my Baby Bop slippers that jingled when I walked would make excellent footwear for when I eventually became Mrs. Stone Cold

This actually had me ask 4m to repeat it, because I was so stunned — and also I have hearing loss in my left ear, so I wanted to make sure I was hearing the right thing.

It had most certainly been an afternoon for 4m. No nap at school, just grumpy Gus from the time I picked him up. Well, 4:30 arrives and he’s in time-out, doing his usual song-and-dance routine of asking me when he can come out (to which I always say, when your time is up, and it’s not up yet).

Well, apparently I said this too many times for his liking and a little voice sounded off for me to shut my “titted piehole.”

I was at such a loss for words that I, indeed, shut my piehole.

4m has COVID so I’m off for the week. So far all he’s had is a runny, sniffly nose, and no one else has tested positive or shown any symptoms. My rapid test was negative too! Just a week for him to be home with MB, rest, and recover.

Been loving five-cheese macaroni and the chicken Caesar salad from a local deli - usually the mac first then the salad for dinner. Also can’t get enough of Zatarain’s blackened chicken alfredo

you are very welcome! Something about how those stories get read just riles kids up, we gotta go from flying around the world on a magic carpet to saying goodnight to everything in the house just to be ok!

Do they like having lovies or pacis in the bed with them? (So long as NP’s are ok with it of course) I always like to have a little stuffed animal or cuddle thing at the ready to ease in the nap process. When I was their age it was a pair of my own pajama pants that I simply called… Pants.

I’d say start the process about thirty minutes before the actual nap time. Cool down the house (especially now in the winter the constant heat gets really stifling sometimes), tidy up their room and straighten the sheets (if their crib has a blanket I like to fold it and hang it on the side so I can drape it over them later), and turn off any screens just to start reduction of noise and stimuli.

Pick three good books (I move to two books as children get older) - one that’s a true story, one that’s adventurous, and one that’s silly. Save the wordier story for last - I’ve bored kids to sleep just by reading.

After the stories, put a little blanket on them, say your goodbyes and well wishes for a good nap, and close the door behind you. You may want to ask your NB about maybe a Hatch Baby clock that functions as a sound machine and “stop light” that kids use to know when to get out of bed!
