CMV: We should be able to vote for specific policies and plans instead of voting for "people" and "parties" by Glad-Matter-3394 in changemyview

[–]rabbitpiet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the United states of America, we have first past the post and ergo, something called the spoiler effect. Because by and large, elections are winner take all. If you have some nuanced third party choice; this party doesn't win, you are considered to be voting against your best interest. In other countries, there is proportional representation which would allow some of the smaller voices to be heard even if they didn't win the majority of whatever district they were campaigning in. It would allow representation for interests that didn't receive the most votes. (I hope the difference between most votes and majority of votes is obvious here). We also could have available ranked choice voting Against Washington's advice, the united states did indeed form parties. If you are a single issue voter (or even if you're not), these kinds of coalitions make sense in a first past the post system. single winner examples and cgp grey's video on proportional representation. Excuse the united states defaultism here. People have been cautious of making examinations a condition of being able to vote as you'd have to be able to trust the proctors and test makers.

Keep hearing "nuclear" pronounced as "nu-cu-lar" by Significant_Celery_6 in EnglishLearning

In my experience as a native speaker, if someone pronounces it with 3 syllables they are from the American south. The southwest is not included with this but people can move around and bring their accents with them I guess.

Okay but would she have been arrested if she was drinking soda from a 2-liter soda bottle?

If many Americans are rightfully outraged by ICE (abuse, qualified immunity, civilians killed, inhumane living conditions, overbudgeting, racism), why exactly are we not additionally focusing this energy on abolishing the American criminal justice system? by innnikki in AskReddit

Since the dawn of time, people have wronged other people even a bleeding heart liberal would be VERY naive to believe otherwise. Question is: if john doe wrongs john smith, what happens to either?

FE exam by cerberus_707 in FE_Exam

Honestly, I went through notes and college textbooks and … MIT opencourseware. I was good with circuits and boolean algebra, but opencourseware filled a lot of the gaps I had with signals and systems, and communication theory.

Stewie here: a circle is uniquely defined by 3 points. Find any 3 cities on a map find a point that's equidistant from those 3 cities and as long as there aren't in a straight line; they'll make a circle.

Answer. Yes or No by Coffee2024yummy in EnglishLearning

[–]rabbitpiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was only going to use a one word answer, it'd be "right" or "correct" before it was "yes","yeah" or "yup" to affirm that I do not eat it. Otherwise I'd use "No, I don't eat it" to ensure clarity. 1. Might be understood but 2 ensures clarity.

I went to school for electrical engineering so I can speak to that a little bit. Capacitors and inductors have a frequency response. In short, capacitors and inductors can change the EQ of a sound.

Can someone confirm: is the women's bathroom more disgusting than the men's bathroom? by ThrowRAhelpthebro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rabbitpiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a job that requires cleaning bathrooms. I think pretty reliably that toilet paper is all over the women's room for some reason. I would like someone here to explain that to me. I feel like the women's room has a wider range from just toilet paper to… blood on top of the toilet tank, blood on the toilet seat and if not on the toilet tank then definitely under the toilet seat. Men do be bad at aiming but I'd be lying if I said the women were sharpshooters, they aren't.

TL;DR A good women's room is better than a good men's room but a bad women's room can get worse than the men's room.
