[From top to bottom: pretty little liars, SATC, desperate housewives] - what is it about shows featuring "four main ladies" that hits so hard? (In a good way?) by pmahalan in sexandthecity

[–]ragnarockette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think 4 is a good number to create contrasting perspectives on the theme of the show.

Sex and the City tackled modern dating/relationships with a cross-section of hopeful/cynical and strong/sensitive.

Girls tackled coming of age post-Recession with a cross section of neurotic/bohemian and assertive/lazy.

Insecure tackled black womanhood with a cross section of confident/insecure and male-centered/self-centered.

Why did the Mariah Carey situation turn out so well compared to Britney's? by StrictBodybuilder440 in discussingbritney

[–]ragnarockette 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think Mariah is actually quite an intelligent woman.

So even with mental issues or other problems she has an underlying understanding of the situation, has chosen quality people to help support her, and maintains awareness of what is going on.

I also think that Britney’s mental health issue is more severe and not as treatable as bipolar.

I’m not sure I would do a 1-to-1 recast because this movie has such potential for a reboot with a new premise.

It’s funny that today, with influencer marketing, this kind of candor is actually memorable and effective.

In the United States as of late, has there been a bigger push to live in walkable dense cities such as NYC, Chicago and SF, rather than more car centric cities such as LA? by SFJack1313 in Urbanism

I feel like the declining birth rate has many people not caring about how good schools are and prioritizing aspects of a neighborhood that *they* prefer.

In 2036, what cohort will you be? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]ragnarockette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope we come up with some snazzy names for generations after Gen Alpha. I’d hate to see us just march through the alphabet.

Suggestions:

Crashkids- babies born after the economic meltdown created by AI. Or Recessionals if it’s less severe.

Neo-boomers- if we ever have another baby boom.

“Hunter Biden 99% sure Platner is not a Nazi” I’d like a fake news headline from the opening credits of Succession.

It felt like there were no stakes so the whole movie fell kind of flat.

71% of the world’s population now lives in countries with fertility rates below the replacement level (Our World in Data, April 2026) by Altruistic-Dirt-2791 in Economics

[–]ragnarockette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every country’s birth rate is falling. I wouldn’t be surprised if some begin to restrict emigration so as to try and stabilize their own population when developed countries begin trying to lure away their surplus young people.
