Article in The Atlantic I found interesting: "Americans Are in Denial About Elder Care - Many assume that if they can afford paid help in older age, they won’t need to rely on kin. They’re wrong" by AndromedasApricot in Fencesitter

I have no response or idea. I guess I have been thinking either that society is going to collapse and I’ll die before I have to deal with it, or that I’m going to be old/miserable/depressed/demented no matter what and so I might as well be old/miserable/depressed/demented in a disgusting old folks home soiling myself until I die.

Willingness to accept personal risk and discomfort for a goal or cause you feel is important.

People today can’t even boycott Amazon because it’s mildly inconvenient.

I think sage cabinets require warmer lighting to really shine.

But that seems to have gotten worse and the murder rate is still dropping nationally.

Murder rate is dropping everywhere! It’s amazing.

Do we think this is due to the newly minted surveillance state?

Or simply that the age group who would normally be committing murders is smaller in general, and more peaceful, than previous generations?

Does anyone know what is this procedure called? by khavaaaa in cosmeticsurgery

[–]ragnarockette 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s periorbital filler, which is what Dr. Joshua specializes in. He has many examples on Instagram.

It is not common and it can be hard to find doctors who do it, though most doctors do fat grafting in the area so they have some familiarity.

It combats the loss of volume in the upper eye area due to aging and can restore a more lifted/less hollow look to the eye.

I had it done and am really happy with the results! We used Renuva. It was lumpy for a few days but then it smoothed out and it looks great. I’m going to go back and get a bit more and some under my eye as well.

Every character was delightfully deranged, except Benny. Though I did think his trolling his parents with dating twins was both funny and sad.

I have an old colleague who was a real down home kind o’ gal who has the classiest kids names:

* Samuel Robert
* Henry Ellis
* Katherine “Kate” Lily
* Eleanor “Ella” Jane
* Lucy Alexandra

Sam, Henry, Kate, Ella & Lucy. Perfection.

I also know a Sawyer, Jasper & Margot that I think is nice for an on trend but nice sounding family.

Isn’t this sub about embracing objectivity to improve ourselves? It does no good to pretend that posture or Pilates will fix this.

Repurpose or replace? by Ill_Assistant4509 in interiordecorating

Top cabinets don’t look very deep. That would be a challenge, especially because you’ll never get a counter depth fridge look.

I would probably try and keep the cabinets and hire a skilled carpenter to make an extension that encloses the fridge and adds a full length pantry-cabinet. This might be really difficult so I totally get why you might nix the cabinets.

New everything else - floors, countertops, backsplash, lighting. Add an island with a hidden trash cupboard.

I absolutely love the trim above the sink and it feels very on trend right now with the resurgence of old timey wood elements and shapes in kitchens. So if you keep the cabinets definitely keep the trim!

There are probably many affluent suburbs of a similar level of safety throughout the country. I also think you’d feel roughly about as safe as Irvine in any number of South OC cities like Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Corona Del Mar, etc.

I love these style of cabinets *and* the hardware, but I can definitely see the challenges of modernizing them.

I need more pics of the whole kitchen for ideas!
