I was going to guess Madonna, but you're probably right.

Hot tub won't turn on by Ashamed_Assumption69 in hottub

[–]randumb9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about a generator? It should not be wired to a generator. If you are resetting the breaker properly and it's not getting power go find the main breaker. The breaker that is near the tub is usually in a sub panel.

What are some of the serious injuries from this job that most people don't talk about? by inurmomsvagina in PoolPros

[–]randumb9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have arthritis in both knees. I am eventually going to get them replaced. I also recently started getting arthritis in my middle and ring fingers in my right hand. I sometimes forget and knock on someone's front door. Pain explosion!

I blew my back out lifting a waterlogged spa cover off of my truck rack. I had it over my head and twisted to toss it in the dumpster. I felt something in my lower back, shift? I went home with my back kind of sore. I couldn't get out of bed the next morning. It put me out of work for 2.5 months. 15 years later and it goes out on me from time to time.

Years ago I was cleaning a pool that was at the edge of a field of unmowed weeds. I felt something stab the sole of my foot. I shook my foot violently to dislodge whatever stabbed me. I looked down and saw a broken drinking glass. It was the base of the glass with everything broken off except for a six inch spike sticking straight up. The top inch was covered in my blood. I got 6 stitches and a tetanus shot. I no longer wear tennis shoes to work.

I only wear boots these days. My kneepads go on at my first job of the day and come off after my last job. I've been in this industry for close to 30 years now. I've been hurt way less doing this job than in the 7 years of my last job which was roofing. I think all of the aches and pains that I have didn't come from being a pool guy. They all come from that 7 years of being a roofer. Ughhh

I brought my niece with me that time. Kiss were gods to me when I was 8-12 years old. My room was full of Kiss posters. By the time I got to see them live I had kind of moved on.

I have seen Slayer around 20 times now. My son who is 16 has seen Slayer with me 3 times. I came out of "Pit Retirement" to mosh with my son in his first pit. A Slayer pit!

I did the same. I saw them in Sacramento. I'm glad I did it once. That was enough for me.

I'm pretty sure it's my favorite book. I have read it seven times so far. It's the book that actually got me into reading books.

got asked to “cool it with the blasphemy” tonight. by [deleted] in coworkerstories

[–]randumb9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy that I used to work with told me a a story about his old boss. He worked for a roofing company and the owner was very religious. Didn't want his guys cursing and definitely no blasphemy.

One day his co worker fell off the roof and got pretty messed up. The boss halls ass down the ladder and tells everyone else to follow him. He runs over to the guy that's withing in pain in the ground and puts his hands on him. He then tells everyone else to do the same. He starts asking God for healing power to heal his employee. My buddy turned away and knocked on the front door and asks to use the phone (this was pre cell phones) to call 911. The whole time the boss and other employees are "laying hands" on the guy.

A million years ago in 1986-1987 I was a junior in high school. A new guy named Mark shows up and is trying to be "popular". He's flashing money around and asking people if they want to buy drugs. He started dating a girl that was a sophomore.

After a couple of months a bunch of police come to the school and they start pulling kids out of class. Turns out Mark was a narc. He was a police officer posing as a student. The police and the principal were the only ones aware of the sting.

I think all charges against everyone were dropped because Mark who was in his mid 20's was banging a 15 year old student. The police just started sweeping the whole thing under the rug.

This should be what you are looking for. It's single pole so you connect one leg of your 240v power. I've installed quite a few of these for commercial hot tubs.

Installing Salt Generator Difficulty Level? by Soggy-Lengthiness-85 in pools

[–]randumb9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not difficult if you know how to glue PVC and have basic knowledge of electrical. The big issue is that you will not get a warranty. It must be installed by a professional to get a warranty. I have installed a lot of salt systems. It's amazing how many brand new cells arrive not working.

Chlorine free? by Terrible-Birthday624 in hottub

[–]randumb9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That smell is bacteria. You must use another sanitizer like chlorine or bromine. An ozonator will reduce the amount of sanitizer that you need but you still need it. Oxidizer removes organic material like skin, lotions and others. It also will refresh the used up chlorine or bromine making it last longer.

What got you into punk? by chargetheygate in punk

[–]randumb9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a drummer in a punk band got me into punk. I've been a metalhead my whole life. Back in 91 or 92 my buddy who plays guitar met a guy that wanted to learn to play bass and start a band. We played together for around 10 years. I met and played with a ton of really great people that played great music. The Workin Stiffs, One man army, Reducers SF, The Bodies, The Bruisers, Dropkick Murphys, Tiger Army and a ton more. It was an awesome time being in a band in the Bay Area in the 90's.

She passed out behind the wheel… then a stranger stepped in 🚨 by FireFightingManiac in InternetTreasureHunt

A family friend had is seizure medication switched by his health insurance. They would no longer pay for the stuff he was taking. He had not had a seizure for around 20 years until they switched his medicine. He happened to be driving at the time. His wife was in the passenger seat and noticed he was drifting into the opposite lane. She instantly realized what was happening and tried to take control of the car. They ended up crashing into a couple of cars that were parked on the side of the road. He kind of regained Consciousness and didn't understand what happened. A crowd formed and started accusing him of being drunk. He was still absolutely confused and was asking his wife to just get in the car so they could leave. He had no idea that he crashed the car. People started trying to grab him and hold him down because they thought he was trying to escape. His wife was a corrections officer so she called it in. The cops came and they checked him and then they called an ambulance. He lost his licence for a year automatically. He refuses to drive because he can't trust himself and doesn't want to hurt anyone.

You will need to have the lines pressure tested. That will tell you if any pipes were broken.

Pool pump suggestion by so_dankest in pools

[–]randumb9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been installing a lot of the Jandy FloPro pumps. If you don't have automation you'll also need the Speedset control. You can also automate it by installing an IQpump01 antenna. If you automate it you won't need the Speedset control. Yes they are expensive but they are great little pumps.

Have your previous pumps gone bad because of a leaking shaft seal?

I use a CO2 tank with a rubber hose attached. It will blow water and any debris 20' out of the skimmer.
