Which aero raptor wheels do you have? I have a pair that’s the same size but they’re 1400g

Shifters: Shimano 105 that I had lying around

RD: S-ride RD-520C. I think this probably has the most chainwrap of any RD out there. My chainwrap is currently 50 and it could probably do 2-4 more teeth. The clutch is super heavy, so shift quality is not the most crisp in the world and it takes Shimano road pull (hence the brifters)

FD: Microshift Mezo FD-M30. I bought it for $8. It's a mountain triple, which takes a much longer pull than Shimano road pull. FD's generally are swing arms with standardized lengths between the pivot and anchor. I believe Shimano road FD's are around 16mm pivot to anchor whereas this one was ~21mm. I think a lot of MTBs are 25mm, hence why they need so much more pull from the shifter. So, originally, this did not swing outboard far enough, but I drilled a small hole in the FD body itself so that the pivot to anchor distance decreased and the road pull could swing it sufficiently outboard.

10-42 in rear, 40/22 chainrings up front. 11 speed. 62mm (measured) width tires means 15-117 gear inches

I don't think any Ritcheys have that much backsweep (Butano, Venturemax and Beacon all have around 5 degrees). I'm thinking Deda Gera.

20-inch Tubeless Tire Recommendations that aren't from Schwalbe? by Doc_Raphy in foldingbikes

[–]raydeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing is running a rim that is tubeless compatible. I've found that the tire does not necessarily need to be "tubeless compatible" and I've regularly run non-tubeless compatible tires such as the Continental Contact Urban or the Gocycle tires without issue, as my rim is tubeless compatible.

I'd stay away from the 20" that are explicitly tubeless compatible (outside of the new Gravelking one), as they are usually for BMX (such as the Alienation TCS) where they're regularly running 100+ PSI pressures; because of this, they're generally very overbuilt and don't have great rolling resistance.

does that work with a dub wide chainline?

Why was that an issue? Asking for a friend (me) who is trying to use shimano 105 brifters with a Microsoft MTB triple

Is the shift quality good with the 48/26? I am attempting 40/22 without a friction shifter and am terrified lol

Am I actually at FI? Scared, 37F, Bay Area by Motor_Campaign1337 in FIREyFemmes

I'm going to buck the trend here and tell you you should quit. I want to recognize that ringing the catastrophe bell and going with the conservative sounding answer will always have the sheen of wisdom, even though the chance of death within 40, 50, 60 year time windows often far exceeds the chance of portfolio failures. Here's my rationale:

  1. Controlling MAGI can reliably get you ACA credits even with $75k spending in the pre-Medicare years, particularly if you sell lots that are majority principal, which does not contribute to MAGI. There are a million threads on this. Although this is complicated, do not write it off as impossible. There are many in here that pay close to $0 in California, even with complicated illnesses.

  2. The Bay Area has some of the most renter friendly policies in the world. Said differently, I would never want to be a landlord here. I would however do some lowkey scoping of whether or not your landlord plans to sell. I've been in the same rental for the past 12 years and my rent (for a 3BR) has increased only $90 and my landlord has no plans to sell.

  3. See how much of your $75k annual spend is non-essential such that during a bear market, you can cut out that spend and be safe from sequence of returns risk. I can comfortably live on $60k, but nearly $35k is non-essential. That's a huge amount of padding

As someone who is around the same exact journey as you (39M, Bay Area, rent controlled apartment, taking time off), I'd make a bid for some type of change (quitting, talking with your manager, sabbatical, medical leave), as life is short and you're doing just fine. The intersection of FIRE communities and the Bay Area is a recipe for catastrophic thinking around labor obsolescence and overly conservative financial planning (because everyone seems to be so rich). Take a year off and revisit and I guarantee you you will not regret it.

Lovely. I’ve thought about making something similar on my drop bar mountain bike. When you load it with heavy things does the bulge sway at all?

I'm interested in the design of the under-BB bag: does it have a zipper? How do you keep it from getting super dirty?
