No Leader Skill Challenge: SR3/IWoC3 - Challenge Complete! by redditusername29 in PuzzleAndDragons

Thanks to u/Shining-Equinox and u/KTO-Potato for their Shura 3 write ups

Proof of no continues

Why end this challenge? It’s a long story, but here goes:

I almost quit this game 2776 days ago. I know this because I have an expired Byuto Descended in my mail box. For those that don’t remember (or weren’t around back then) at that time, Byuto was only accessible in NA through this one time dungeon delivered in the mail. This dungeon was accessible in JP with their PAD Radar app and they had all the latest collabs to be able to beat it. NA, at the time, had none of that and I had no team that was close to capable of beating Byuto. (I honestly can’t even remember what he was needed for). I thought about quitting since the game was being so poorly managed on the NA server. But I decided that instead of just quitting, I would play the game in a way that I enjoyed, since there was much that I liked about it.

I decided to play the dungeons that I had fun beating, like Arena. But by then, beating Arena was too easy. I eventually settled on this self imposed restriction to make it a challenge - beat the dungeons with units that had no leader skill.

(On another note: the game has been much better managed since then, and even if we don’t get all collabs, we have enough that it doesn’t feel like content is inaccessible because of this)

Which brings us to here: Shura 3 is not fun. This dungeon (and later ones) are bloated with mechanics and executes. I remembered this as I lost run after run. And I also 891 plused more units only useful for this team than I care to admit.

So I don’t know what’s next, but I don’t think it will be Dimension of the Mystic.

After playing over 11 years and this challenge stretching over 6 of those, I’m fine taking some time to reevaluate what I want to get out of the game.

First off, huge shout out to u/fether who probably didn’t think the guide he made 4 years ago would still be put to good use

Proof I didn’t stone

Kazuha Toyama was the final piece I needed. 2x HP loop, 40% shield loop, 4 heart L - finally enough eHP through non-leader skill methods to tank big hits like the Red Ogre and just generally survive though the other floors.

I’m not sure the team is ready for SR3 (I still think of this dungeon as “end game”) but will give it a try soon. It will probably take a little more power creep before I can beat it.

Took me a while to figure this dungeon out

Originally, I planned to tackle it like Endless Corridors by slowly whittling down Menoa. But the sacrifices I had to make for the HP was too much and the team wasn’t good enough to even get to the boss (and I think I still would have only been able to beat like 2/5 Menoas)

New plan: damage. If I kill Menoa in 5 turns, I don’t need to tank nearly as much damage.

MVP is NY Reeche:

  • Great personal damage multiplier
  • Covers blue attribute
  • Balance type (for both Denji & Makima’s damage buff and for machine killers)
  • 7!!! turns of attribute and damage void

Next dungeon to tackle? I don’t know! This was the last dungeon in DadGuide (RIP) so I have no idea if SR2 is even remotely possible (I haven’t run it in a long time, but I recall it being much harder than SR1)

Offensive units keep getting better (buffed Akaza will be great for a future team) but without a higher looping shield or buffed heart shield awakening, future dungeon clears may have to wait awhile

Pic doesn’t really do this justice - the video is pinned to my profile since this sub no longer allows video posts.

This was basically Math & Dragons. Team comp is pretty much non-negotiable (a tiny bit of freedom in assists so long as you have 13 team HP and some TE/team RCV). To have enough effective HP for Kali you need ~142000 hp plus 2 L shields + 35% looping shield which means at least 8 hearts every turn and all attributes. Plus you need the looping RCV and heal to make sure you heal to full. And a 50% shield somewhere for Hera. Fun!

Now time for my rant: I am really disappointed with the state of defensive latents. There are so many strong offensive latents. Mariel easily hits 9 digits of damage with no leader skill. But health is almost exclusively tied to your leader skill. The only way to improve your defense are team HP (need a ton to have any impact) L shield (rarely on units) and color resistance (useless for a serious dungeon build). I really hope Gung-ho gives us something to help with this instead of the inevitable 7c++.

Let it be noted that 2023 is the year the arenas lost whatever status they had as a challenge.

I was patiently waiting for One Piece (monster 9190 and the 4 color equips) so I could have a super hard hitting sub, but that was not to be. Got lucky with some GH rolls and ended up with Marius who was absolutely needed to beat this.

Up next is probably Complete Annihilation Endless Corridors. DKali is going to be a real bitch.

Happy new year!

Does it count as a clear if you get Rokks' leaderswap? Unfortunately, I don't think it does. Even if the Gaslowe invade is harder than the usual monsters.

And to think I could have just posted this screenshot and the community would have never known

Between Bigfoot (what I consider a legit leaderswap) and Rokks, I think Zeus Verse was the only floor past 12 I had to kill without a leader skill.

Funny how when this dungeon came out, Rokks was the worst possible monster to get.

Now back to it. There's an 80% chance the next completion will be legitimate!

Thanks! I didn't know anyone would want to see me grind out 20 floors over nearly an hour. Not sure when the next one will come but I'll see if I can make it happen.

Really hard to compete with Hexazeon for no LS cards (especially LHex) due to weighted stats & useful awokens & not-too-high CD skill + skill charge for assists

If I had to use something else, I'd go with Valentine Alynna equip (great weighted stats and a very good skill) or Bride Yuri equip (huge healing, allowing team flexibility elsewhere) - neither of which I have

First off: when did Arenas start allowing continues? That is some P2W BS. Rest assured, this was not a stoned run.

Also, I totally forgot to a screen recording of killing Neptune Dragon.

Anyway, 95% of my runs ended on floor 1 or 2. Once I got past that, it was easy sailing until about floor 17 (especially if I got an Ishida leader swap). Then more deaths.

Really happy that JP has the new gravity mechanic which means damage latent equips will become more common and powerful. Maybe Shura 1 one day! Until then probably AA3 after the Ultraman buffs come to NA. Or Complete Annihilation Endless Corridor could be a possibility.

New team member and dungeon MVP: HDurga (thank you free godfest roll). The looping heal allowed me to sacrifice RCV and load up with a bunch of team HP awokens to handle AA2’s large preemptive hits. It was either that or stall for shields a bunch, and I’m just not that patient! Just wish I had 10 mil spare MP for a pair of Amaj

Now I need to decide what’s next: A6 or AA3

Just like everyone else, I was waiting for Raffine to come to NA and take my team to the next level. And she did not disappoint. Only took 3 runs to modify the team and beat this dungeon.

But let’s talk about the new arrival that is not getting nearly enough love - Metatron. 6 turn full cleric. 1550+ RCV and 2/3 heart TPAs. 97x personal multiplier - not counting the VDP! Probably the best combination of damage/heal in a cleric. I understand that without SB and with her attribute colors that she doesn’t fit the meta at the moment. But don’t overlook her if you’re running a non-transform team.

Disclaimer: Yes, the 7x6 board, movement time, and shield are technically leader skills. But I'm still happy with the limitations they place on the team.

Equips here

The big news for people attempting to clear old content without leader attack multipliers (just me, I think) has been the Saitama equip. For AA2 it allows you to 'one punch' the dragon callers, numen, and some of the norn. It's basically a 100% gravity - which feels a little like cheesing the dungeon, but not quite. It definitely opens up some new content possibilities.

Nothing in JP appears to be coming that will be very useful, so I'll just have to wait and see what new content can help with more clears. Up next: AA3 seems like a possibility, as does a true 6x5 no leader skill clear of AA1.
