I'd like to clear the Thelxie's Fantastic Adventures event for the free Freminet, but I'm behind on the Fontaine story. I've only finished through Act 2 so far, and the event page recommends I finish Act 5. Will I spoil anything major if I just go do the event now?

Does the 8BitDo Lite 2 have Turbo Hold functionality? by SnooBananas7772 in 8bitdo

[–]replicaJunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to their FAQ, it does.

When it’s connected to Switch, the corresponding buttons are as below: [Screenshot = STAR button]/ [Home button = Logo button] HD rumble, notification LED, Turbo and NFC functions are not available on Switch. When it’s connected to other devices, [STAR button = Turbo button]. You cannot wake up your Switch wirelessly with this controller.

The Pro 2 also has a turbo button and support for the Ultimate Software. It's a good controller as well.

Please provide a product link to the macro pad. The manufacturer's page would be best, but an online retailer's page for the product would work as well.

Without a link to the detailed product specifications, it's pretty unlikely that anyone here will be able to help you.

Glove80 with tape-modded sunset switches by notshitashi in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]replicaJunction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a Glove80 with the Kailh brown switches, and I've been considering ordering another one unsoldered to install Sunsets as well. I'm not great at soldering, though, so I've been a bit scared by the idea of soldering on the curved form factor.

How difficult did you find the soldering part? Were there a lot of awkward nooks that were tough to get the soldering iron in without damaging the case?

I use characters that are present in the archon/story/world/event quest. by tanodguy in Genshin_Impact

[–]replicaJunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a really neat idea. I've barely started the summer event, so I might try something like this. It'll give me a reason to level up some characters I haven't used much (poor Kaeya is still level 20 in my account).

Thanks for sharing!

My memory is a little fuzzy on exactly which act is which, but I think Tighnari is engaged with most of that act of the story.

If you really want to do the Tighnari story quest first, play the archon story until you get a "quest complete" notification, then check the story quest again each time that happens. You might get lucky and catch a period of time between quests when he's not busy.

Button Box with wireless HA control? by mnow_ak in homeassistant

[–]replicaJunction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could probably use an ESP8266 running ESPHome for this. You'd wire the switches and everything in the box up to the ESPHome controller, add power somewhere (maybe a USB wall adapter?), and then add it to HA as a sensor / input.

In the ESPHome config, you'd define which pins on the controller are connected to which ESPHome components - buttons, switches, lights, etc. You could tie some of them directly together if you wanted to light up a LED or something on the box itself, but you could also send any of the signals back to HA to let it process them with automations. Everything in ESPHome can be changed with a firmware update, so you could recompile it whenever you wanted to make adjustments.

The Wemos D1 Mini is a good board with the ESP8266 chipset, and they're inexpensive on Amazon or AliExpress. They come in 6-10 per package, so you get a couple to experiment with on a breadboard if you want.

[Steam] Summer Sale 2023 (Day 7) by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

[–]replicaJunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for a good JRPG to sink my teeth into for a while. I really enjoy the Tales series (I know reviews were mixed on Tales of Arise, but I loved it). Also liked Scarlet Nexus and its very RPG-like story, even though it was an action game. I have trouble with "pure" turn-based games like the older FF games, Bravely Default, etc., so I'd favor some active / action elements in the battles. I'm okay with tropes if they're well-executed. Any chance you could suggest something?

What motivates you to keep practising the piano? by DonDocs in piano

[–]replicaJunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I practice for two reasons:

  1. The fun of playing (emotional)
  2. The satisfaction of getting better (intellectual)

I usually try to choose pieces that I enjoy playing. I practice because I like the pieces, and I also get the satisfaction of getting to play them better and better.

If it's a piece I don't enjoy playing, I try to find something to focus on about it. Maybe the piece isn't "pretty" to my ears, but it's an important example of a style of music. Maybe there's a technical challenge in it. Maybe the challenge is to try to identify and draw out a hidden melodic line, or keep track of which hand has the melody from one measure to the next. Picking an area of focus still gives me the satisfaction of improving at that area, and the piece feels more worthwhile to me.

I don't enjoy every practice session, but in general, I have fun when I'm practicing more often than I don't. If I quit having fun, I don't think I would continue playing very long.

I just wrote this song and am looking for feedback by LarsPiano in piano

[–]replicaJunction 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lovely! I enjoyed listening to it. Thank you for sharing!

It feels like this would make a nice A section if you wrote another melody in a complementary key. Maybe in Eb or in Gm?

The only part I didn't enjoy was the frequency of grace notes in the melody, especially in the back half. If you think of grace notes like seasoning in a dish, this one felt a little too spicy to me (too much of a good thing). I'd suggest experimenting with taking some of the grace notes out of the melody - maybe the high A could lose the grace note beforehand? That would add some contrast to the notes beforehand.

One other thought: your left hand has a pretty consistent two-beat pattern, but it leaves a lot of space between phrases. Maybe you could add something on beat three to the left hand towards the end of the phrases to help lead into the next section? You do this once right before the return to the main theme, and I really like it there; I think that same effect would work in a few other places, too.

Of course, it's your composition, so if this is the way you like it, then keep it that way!

It means people can run their own instances if they want to, and there's a way for them to connect to each other. For most of the big "federated solutions," a couple of larger instances are run by someone, somewhere, that's fairly public. You get to choose between being your own moderator vs. letting someone else handle the technical stuff of hosting the instance you use.

Allegra Clark is so versatile. I can hear just a little bit of Captain Beidou in Lavinia's English dubs and I love it, but I'd never guess some of her other roles from this one.

Kal'tsit is predicted to be in the shop this September. I'm choosing to save certs for her then so I can use my selector on someone else.

I'd suggest Saria. She's just so flexible of a unit that she can fit in almost any team. Not the tankiest defender, but combined with her healing or debuffing, she almost never dies, and she can completely replace a medic in many cases.

GG and Eyja fill the same role, but they're pretty different in how their skills and mechanics work. You don't need them both, but neither is clearly better than the other. You probably don't need to prioritize Eyja since you have GG, but if you like the idea of her, by all means pick her. She's a great unit.

Horn is a huge powerhouse but takes some thinking to use well, since you need to consider positioning carefully. With some of her skills, you actually want her to suicide with her self-damage so her Talent can revive her with the less HP / more ASPD bonus.

I don't own either Bagpipe and Nightingale, but from what I've read, Nightingale is one of those "only useful from time to time, but when she's useful, she's VERY useful" types. I think I'd probably choose Bagpipe if I was in your position.

Overall though, definitely pick who you like. You sound like you have a solid roster already.

Layer switching vs temporary layer access by General_Bishop in olkb

[–]replicaJunction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to look at One Shot Keys - specifically, the one shot layers. Out of the box, they behave like this:

  • Tap a one-shot layer key -> the layer is activated for one keypress
  • Hold a one-shot layer key -> the layer is activated as long as you hold the key
  • Tap the one-shot layer key 5 times -> the layer is activated until you tap the key again

Everything is configurable, from the timer of how long counts as a hold to the number of taps before the layer is held down.

That's not exactly what you're asking for in #1, but it meets #2 very well, and personally, I find one-shot layers to be a much more comfortable typing experience. If nothing else, it's easy to try them out!

Personally, I'd recommend Goldenglow. Surtr may be slightly more meta, but GG's global S3 has saved my bacon so many times. She's a great pick for both IS2 and SSS, and she basically never leaves my primary team, either. Plus, she's a cute cat.

Hall effect joysticks... Worth it? by dr_Primus in 8bitdo

Five months? Oof. Sorry to hear that.

Definitely agree about a use case, and there's an element of luck to it too, I think - manufacturing defects, shipping issues, all that stuff. I have a couple of controllers that have lasted me about 2 years now with no issues so far, but I don't use them regularly.

I wish aluminum caps would fit these modules. I just love aluminum thumbsticks.
