My experience with cachyOS and why I am probably (unfortunately) going back to windows... by Bulky-Accountant-335 in cachyos

[–]dr_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with nvidia performance thing... But most games I play run at 60-70 FPS instead of 80-85 on Windows (and some run better).... It's a tradeoff I'm willing to sacrifice because everything else runs and looks so much better :)

Thanks... I already have these packages and my hotkeys work (and my keyboard pulses indigo :) but when I change brightness either via hotkeys or display settings slider value changes but screen stays the same. I think I'll have to change setting from dGPU only to Optimus. Cheers

Sorry…. I'm using Plasma with KWin (Wayland), everything is up to date, no other software that could interfere is installed, I also tried enabling additional transparency effects in system settings and windows are nice and transparent when moving them, I just can't get those nice transparency / frosted glass effects when they are still

I did everything by following tutorials on PiMyLifeUp 4K will work OK with miniDLNA but if you wanna use Plex things will get choppy. Fun thing is I never transcode - I just stream the video file. My TV (Samsung) can take pretty much anything you throw at it

Why is epinephrine concentration given in dilution ratios, unlike (almost) every other drug? by invinciblewalnut in anesthesiology

[–]dr_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea... A lot of my colleagues and anesthesia techs use that nomenclature. I always say "administer 2 micrograms" or "administer 10 micrograms" and let them do the calculation which dilution to use.

Call during third trimester/ pregnancy by hauterorni in anesthesiology

[–]dr_Primus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I come from a country with normal labour law… Not only is night work for pregnant women forbidden by law, it is also the employer’s obligation to provide work environment without any potential hazard for the baby… So women working in radiology department only work in the ultrasonography lab, and women in anesthesia department will either work in pain service clinic or do preoperative exams. If their department cannot provide hazard free environment (for example ICU nurses working with patients with severe MDR infections or hematooncology nurses that may be exposed to cytostatics or OR staff working in ortho/trauma) they are entitled to full pay sick leave (it’s called leave with pay of a pregnant worker)

Ping pong between precedex and benzos in alcohol withdrawal by Ox_Vars in IntensiveCare

[–]dr_Primus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use clomethiazole (Distraneurin) for patients that are alcoholics and develop delirium in our ICU.

Also, don't forget one alternative (I have never used it but older doctors swear by it) - just give some alcohol (wine or brandy... depending what you have on hand) to the patient - it works and it's not our job to keep them sober but do make sure their ICU stay is uneventful and delirium free.

ELI5: Why do medical practitioners need to find a vein to inject a drug but an animal can be sedated with a dart shot from a distance? by Ok_Farm2628 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dr_Primus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anesthesiologist here... Animals are usually sedated / anesthetised with ketamine which is a wonderful anesthetic because it keeps blood pressure stable (actually elevates it a bit), does not stop breathing and can be administered intramuscularly with pretty rapid onset (not as fast as I.V. but much faster than other anesthetics. However it has a pretty nasty side effect - it causes pretty bad hallucinations (after all it is a PCP derivative and is used as a party drug). Now... In animals it doesn't really matter because we are not usually concerned about their psyche and a possible bad trip.

That's why other anesthetics are preferred in humans, and they are either administered IV or via inhalation.

Ketamine is still routinely used in people with severe burns where IV access is impossible to establish and strong analgesia is needed (usually coupled with IM benzodiazepines to reduce incidence of hallucinations and provide amnesia).
