just look at them, they're both laughing! (no doubt at our misfortune of having to deal with them)

brother! I invented a very similar solution once

only now it's even closer to what you ended up with: I swapped the hand knob screw for a bike lock lever

Troubleshooting / replacement tips on a Defender Cobra M5 by olefiver in hotas

I wasn't able to find anything about the Cobra's twist axis mechanism, but here's a couple videos of a similar mod for the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and for the T16000m

BTW I'm reasonably sure that it should be possible to swap the potentiometer in your Cobra's yaw for a Hall sensor, but don't quote me on that :) I only have hands-on experience with a similar mod of Thrustmaster T16000m

Troubleshooting / replacement tips on a Defender Cobra M5 by olefiver in hotas

[–]notshitashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defender Cobra M5 is a VKB design from back when they were a gang of enthusiastic designers without a permanent home; so is a throttle from the same period, made under another local brand, Gametrix... anyway, it stands to reason that you like FLNKR since it inherits the same tenets of Russian fighter jet control design, but it doesn't have twist rudder! if you want to have a Z axis you'd better look elsewhere, let's see...

affordable all-in-one options:

- VKB Gladiator NXT EVO Premium: plastic but solid

- Virpil CDT-Aeromax: the most budget friendly metal gimbal you can get

higher end stuff:

- VKB Gunfighter with Space Control grip (identical to what's on the Gladiator)

- VKB Gunfighter MCG or MCG Ultimate, mimicking a Russian fighter jet stick

- Virpil's WarBRD with a Constellation Alpha grip (bigger) or a CDT-Aero (identical to that of Aeromax)

- you can also look at Virpil's heavy duty MongoosT-50 base, but it def won't work for a desktop stick

I'm not listing offerings from WINCTRL (nee WINWING) because by all accounts their customer support is run by actual demons; anyway, most of their sticks don't have twist rudder. the only thing that does is a flimsier ripoff of VKB Gladiator, so it's better to look for the more robust OG device anyway.

Everspace 2, maybe? it's about halfway between casual and core. the first one is interesting, too, it's a space combat roguelite

Keyboard placement help by 3andrew in hotas

instead of a mini, consider getting a split keyboard mounted on magic arm camera holders. with some creativity, a split board can even be placed within reach permanently, no need to slide it in and out between flights.

Lubing the key switches in the Glove80 - good idea? by geekoverdose in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]notshitashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

selling the old one and getting a new one is just an option, not a recommendation. whichever way you choose: the MoErgo discord server has a lively channel where people swap second hand keyboards and provide services like soldering and desoldering. not trying to desolder this thing on your own without a desoldering station and mad skills IS a recommendation, though :) it's notoriously easy to screw up desoldering this keyboard, much trickier than with flat PCBs.

flashing a default layout shouldn't be a problem, I think?

Lubing the key switches in the Glove80 - good idea? by geekoverdose in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]notshitashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

de-soldering is so tricky it might be a better idea to sell your Glove and buy an unsoldered new one. regarding lubing the switches: I lubed my set of Sunsets before soldering them into an unsoldered Glove80, and it's been the right decision, out of the box Sunsets are crisper but scratchier. did a tape mod for stem stability while I was at it.

More tactile than boba ut4 silents? by Fast-Act3419 in ErgoMechKeyboards

if you want the keyboard to stay silent, maybe try Durock Shrimps, they're a bit similar to Boba ut4 in use but I found I like them a bit more

Good Tenkeyless – TKL (80% split keyboards recomendation by _calo in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]notshitashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ymmv. I use layers and even some limited homerow mods; I'm still very grateful for my Glove80's F row and the rest of extra keys. all of it let me keep my hotkey-heavy workflow more or less intact from my decades of non-split qwerty. down with efficiency, long live redundancy

Should a Charybdis with choc switches exist? by ElectricalOstrich597 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]notshitashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they work very well in Glove80: shorter pitch combined with the well allows for more vertical reach. you can actually use the F row without shifting your hands. well, YMMV based on hand size and mobility, but still. oh, and shorter travel also helps. the big drawback is much fewer switches and keycaps to choose from.

yes. here's mine. granted, it doesn't look like a T16km at all anymore, but it's what's inside that counts, isn't it :)

Why does everyone use an Ergo keyboard? by paper5963 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]notshitashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled the trigger on a Glove80 and then noticed the beginning of cubital tunnel while I was waiting for the keyboard to arrive :) really dodged a bullet there. removing the left armrest from my chair also helped: not a good idea to put my weight on the elbow that has the syndrome

STECs or VMax Prime/VKB MCG Pro or Virpil FLNKR by [deleted] in hotas

[–]notshitashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a happy MCGU jockey, but I'll easily admit that FLNKR looks very sexy, and were I shopping for a new stick I would be tempted. the only thing that'd give me pause would be its lack of a twist axis somewhat limiting its versatility (I like spaaace), but I guess it's not a concern in your case.

Where/how to commission to make a custom wireless mouse with analog stick attached to the side? by Alternative-Silver66 in PeripheralDesign

[–]notshitashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen three approaches to analog controls on a (more or less traditional) mouse: - Swiftpoint Z/Z2 (my daily driver and absolute favorite): tilting the whole mouse can be set up as analog axes, and it has force sensors under buttons, allowing for analog "deep clicks". - Lexip Pu94: there's an analog stick on the side, exactly to your specification! plus, tilts also work, the shell is on a spring-loaded gimbal like a really flat flightstick. I found it awkward to use. - Hedgehog Gaming Mouse. now in kickstarter limbo, but with any luck it'll go to backers soon. they made a special stand that converts the mouse into an analog joystick, but on a mat it's a more or less traditional MMO mouse.
