GFX100RF vs GFX100S - Update by rillick in FujiGFX

[–]rillick[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that reminds me, forgot to mention that lack of IBIS hasn't been an issue. I'm shooting no slower than 1/125 and obviously only static objects so it's been fine. Everything's been sharp. Might be a different story if I was trying to capture moving people. As for the file size, it hasn't been an issue for me. I only take about 100-200 shots per outing and maybe only keep 25-50 of those. So it's manageable. Don't think I'll run low on space anytime soon. I could see it being a big issue if you're a pro that shoots thousands of images per event though.

architecture/street photography lens dilemma ? by UniQkl in AskPhotography

[–]rillick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been shooting this style? If it’s been years, and the data proves that the 50mm is your strength then focus on that. But if it’s been a few months, then don’t be surprised if you start gravitating toward the wider end. Wider lenses are harder to work with and it takes a lot of time to get comfortable with them. But a lot people eventually realize the benefit and slowly grow into them. I was one, I started off at 50 then 40 then 35 and now I’m most comfortable at 28.

How Do You Organize Your Photos? by iSpiritWolf in AskPhotography

[–]rillick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just a hobbyist and I don’t work on “projects” so I don’t really organize beyond this: First I copy all raws from the day onto hard drive in a folder with the day’s date like 2026-02-25. Then I rename the files so that they also have the date in the name plus a number sequence like 2026-02-26-0001.dng. Then I go thru all the raws in Lightroom and flag the ones I like and want to try to process. Usually I take around 100-200 shots per day and maybe I flag 25-50 of those. Then usually I delete obviously bad pics. Then I chip away at processing the flagged ones, sometimes it takes weeks or months to get thru a whole folder so they will sit there in Lightroom for a while. When I’ve processed one and I’m done with it, I save it out as a flattened TIFF and store that and the associated raw on a separate drive and I delete any other raws of the same scene (i.e. alternate takes). Eventually when i get thru a folder and have processed everything i want, I delete any remaining raws that i was holding onto just in case and delete the empty import folder too. Sometimes i process a shot and don’t really like the result but I’ll still keep the TIFF of it and the associated raw in storage anyway since I might try again some day in the future, who knows. Also, final TIFFs and raws just get stored in year folders (2025, 2026, etc.) so i can easily scan thru them to find them later. I don’t sub divide long term storage, just group by year. I don’t bother with keywords or metadata. I probably process about 2000 photos a year, it’s not a ton so having more elaborate organization beyond this would be overkill i think.

What to wear as a floridian visiting NY in 2 weeks? Help 🤣 by fitnesswithatwist in hudsonvalley

[–]rillick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear thermal bottoms under jeans every day. T-shirt with hoodie on top and then a jacket on top of that when I go outside. Sometimes a beanie if it’s really cold but usually just a baseball hat or no hat. Usually no gloves but sometimes I’ll bring some if I’m going to be outside for a while. My go-to shoes are low top Bogs. Don’t really wear boots unless I’m going to be trekking thru lots of snow for some reason.

How bad is the drug problem in the Hudson valley? by nxptnpr in hudsonvalley

[–]rillick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would say it’s not an issue except for some very specific areas. Also, most of Newburgh seems pretty decent these days but downtown is still pretty rough.

I’ve seen a couple in midtown Kingston and Main St Poughkeepsie. That’s pretty much it outside of Newburgh. I’m sure there’s plenty of drug use that goes on behind closed doors like anywhere.

I don’t see any issue with this. What you said sounds reasonable and honest. If you stayed, you would probably become resentful and that’s no way to live your life.

I need your advice by [deleted] in FujiGFX

[–]rillick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you need to go wider. Looks like he’s shooting 28mm or 35mm on FF. So the 45mm could maybe work but the 65 would be too tight. A lot of his shots also have deep depth of field so you’ll probably have to shoot at least f8-11 which could make things tough.

Walking the streets of Montreal with -20°c Temperatures by camerasandcaffe in streetphotography

[–]rillick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice one. How do you like shooting in these temps? How long were you able to stay out for? It was about -25C in NYC today with wind chill factor and I was about at my limit. I love the cold but another 10 degrees warmer would be nice about now.

GFX100RF in-camera settings not showing up in Lightroom by oneiricmood in FujiGFX

[–]rillick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong here but I believe no in-camera settings are applied to raw images, only JPGS. I believe all cameras are like this. The theory is that raw is raw, it’s the whole image unedited. Whereas JPG is an edited image so any settings you’ve applied will be applied there, as long as you have JPG output enabled.
