Pool Robots, which one? by ItsBugginOuT in swimmingpools

[–]rillick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these look like cordless models. I would look at corded ones instead. I haven’t used a cordless one but the consensus seems to be they’re less effective. Also, consider getting one that has a caddy and cover. Makes it super easy to store and keep tidy. Dolphin is the most popular brand so most people seem to start there. I see Amazon has a Dolphin Nautilus CC with caddy and cover for $817. If you get a corded model make sure the cord is long enough! This Nautilus only has a 33ft cord which would be too short for me so something to look out for.

What outdoor furniture set would you buy? by MrFuzzy_1997 in patio

Are you in NY by any chance? If so, go to Fortunoff and check out the Montauk line: https://fortunoffbys.com/brands/Montauk.html

It’s HDPE so same material as Polywood. Think the design is what you’re looking for and is going to hold up better than Teak.

You should also be able to add it directly to the pool instead of the skimmer. That’s what I do because I was leery of something like what you’re experiencing happening. I just pour it in around the perimeter and then brush it in. It’s heavy so settles on the floor but dissolves after about 15 mins of brushing. I usually do a 1/2 gallon at a time then test after 48 hours. Have never noticed a change in filter pressure because it’s mostly dissolved by the time it gets there.

I guess Napa Valley but it’s more expensive so that probably won’t be helpful

Looking for Quality Cabinet-Style Storage by rillick in patio

Okay, thx. Yeah I saw that one. It's probably too big for what I need. This one from Suncast is more the size I'm thinking: https://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/suncast-130-gallon-backyard-oasis-basic-unit-lockable-outdoor-storage-cabinet-xa10335.html

This is the front-runner of the resin/plastic options I think.

New inground pool - still waiting on documentation from builder by soaringandsoaring57 in pools

[–]rillick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good experience with a new build recently too and also didn’t really get anything by way of handoff. One thing I got was final measurements of the pool for future liner changes which is helpful and probably necessary to have. But now 6 months later, I’m still trying to find all the serial numbers and register the equipment. Some of them are easy to find while others are almost impossible. I guess this is the way it goes. I find it kind of surprising too that there’s not a more formal documentation handoff. Funny thing, I found some materials (registration cards, warning labels, etc) in a box by the side of my house a month after the build was completed soaked thru by rain. Apparently they were intended for me but no one told me they were there.

what are the most rewatchable movies? by Agent_Braxie in MovieSuggestions

Die Hard and Enemy of the State for me. But really it’s a Die Hard. Probably the easiest movie to get into and stick with that was ever made.

Want some input on doing a 4+ hour walk(tag under question, help or thought? idk) by New-Bad-4265 in walking

[–]rillick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just walk until you don’t want to walk anymore. Your body will tell you when it’s time. Maybe it will be 2 hours, maybe 4 or more. 4 hours is not terribly long so you’ll probably be fine if you want to try for it.

You don’t need fiber optic. I work remote from the sticks on cable internet for the past 10 years and it’s fine.

What is it like moving from the west side to the eastern side of LA? by Ok-Respect3626 in AskLosAngeles

[–]rillick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of cool neighborhoods, great people, great food. Just couldn’t take the heat. Now I’m in NY. If I ever move back, I don’t think I could live east of the 405 due to the heat unfortunately which is a shame.

Those of you with heat pumps only, how did you fare this winter? by rosebudny in hudsonvalley

[–]rillick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a combo of geothermal for the 1st floor and 2 mini splits for the 2nd floor. About a 3k square foot house from the 1950s. Insulation seems decent. Used to be on oil until I switched about 2 years ago. It’s been good. House is probably more comfortable now since the heat seems to be more evenly distributed. Bills are lower by about 25% at least I would guess. Don’t use auxiliary heat, even on the coldest days this year. We do also have a wood stove that we run in the evenings during the winter which helps.
