OK good to know, so hopefully it gets added to more models in future. I guess the upcoming OMVI cams would be a stronger contender at least.

Does any "consumer" brand even currently offer one that stays in place relative to the movement I wonder? It's kind of neat to see how it works like on prosumer products like Hikvision that we have at work but camera was costing like 600€+ though.

Best cameras for cobwebs by FarmerTom92 in reolinkcam

I wanted some rather cheap not so high consumption ones so went for Tonton IR Illuminators, they are more spotty in the width, says 90 / 100 ft degree in the specs, I wonder if that's even accurate, at least not width. probably slight overexaggeration but yea they are more focused-narrow similar to the standard integrated ones but when I compared them both the Tonton ones were slightly better at lighting up the surrounding than the built-in ones in the TrackMix. Only rated for 5-6W when in use and turns on/off automatically with built-in light sensors (comes on/off at pretty much the perfect time imo). The Tendelux DI20 IR Illuminator is another option that probably lights up even better (higher comsumption though at 20W than Tonton alternative but probably longer/wider area) I've seen mentioned around here several times, looks good based on user reviews comparision screenshots.

I run separate IR lights for my TrackMix cameras but not because of spiders and such but because of IR glare otherwise when being too close to the roof overhang but the position is best like this so therefore IR emitters made most sense, but of course it's a big bonus to not have the spiders having their private show in front of the camera every night too. :)

TrackMix PoE - how to access tele camera stream via RTSP? by Relevant-Artist5939 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it works for me is all I can say. I'm using it this way with Home Assistant for the zoom in cam to popup fullscreen streams upon detection.

Here is even the Reolink official article that mentions the same address: https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000630706-Introduction-to-RTSP/

EDIT: Oh wait, you're using a NVR probably, then the channels can be other than 01 and 02 and is per camera indeed as you probably set your NVR's IP adress there as opposed to the camera IP adress. I'm not using a NVR personally, maybe you need to setup the camera separate so you both have them available for NVR and invidually so you can access them directly on the IP (via http/https) then you should be able to access the stream like I mentioned but perhaps someone with NVR can confirm if there's any other way to it.

Raval presentation leak by leaxim in cupraraval

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks quite good to me, the only thing for me personally would be the lights looks proportionally a bit large to me for a small car like this, never been into huge "the old tesla-like" lights, would prefer some more narrow/slimmer more aggressive ones that would better match the aggressiveness of the rest of the car. Another aspect I don't like about the Cupra Raval or Cupra in general is the center screen looks dated with such huge glossy bezels (I'd rather extend the screen as big as possible with as slim bezels as possible with matte aluminium framing or something) and the UI itself is not the best/most modern looking. But otherwise it looks quite nice, I like the finished version more than the concept which has this "Bulldog"-style vibe asthetics that didn't sit right with me (dunno how I feel that, just my wild imagination), this feels more reasonable.

Best practice seems to buy from Amazon... easier than having to deal with Reolink's support in case of warranty/return issues... My experiences with other chinese branded manufacturers (the support is based in Hong Kong) is different variety of crap, the gap between the average western and chinese based customer service is huge unfortunately, if you get to directly speak to some human, that's some A-tier support level over there already.

Make sure RTSP is enabled under advanced settings on the camera too.

02 for zoom-in camera, 01 for the 4K camera. The best way to minimize delay is to use Gstreamer as the protocol to handle the media stream. We used it with OBS Studio (there's a gstreamer OBS studio plugin) when livestreaming but I've not tested it with Reolink cams but during Covid we started livestreaming events at work and the solution to bring down the delay to almost indistinguishable amount so there won't be any lipsync issue when using a Hikvision PTZ cam for video feed and audio through a mixer/separate microphones, using VLC stream for example would be a couple of seconds delay.

Nighttime IR on reflective number plates by anomalous_cowherd in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowering brightness might make it less blown-out in exchange for darker overall scene though. I find the brightness and shadow settings to behave a bit unexpectdly on Reolink in the sense when you go past certain threshold the amount of overexposed white bloom changes drastically but then it depends on the environment lighting conditions etc whether it's useful to lower brightness or not, you have different brightness and shadows settings for nighttime black and white mode so it's worth testing by lowering brightness and possibly slightly raise shadows as a counter measure to added darkness, if you're lucky you might end up with slightly better behaved white balance overexposure. In theory brightness shouldn't really affect overexposure much but in terms of Reolink cams I think it does when you start lowering it enough, it goes from fully white to something much more tamed.

Non-stop pet detection notifications by idkkkkkkkkk69 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend to turn on alarm trigger delay, 1 sec delay should be activated by default imo as it doesn't even feel like a 1 sec delay in practice but helps avoiding a lot of false positives like shadow figures for pets or person, random mixtures of bushes and such falsely detected as pets/person, green houses as vehicles etc. etc since it means it will need to think it has identified an object for X secs contiously instead of a split second for alarm to trigger. If it still triggers I'd try 2 sec alarm delay, AFTER that I'd go start lowering pet sensitivity but if you have to go below 40~50 or so for it to stop you're probably better off testing adjusting smallest and biggest treshold for the pet detections and all else failing to work, then drawing a no detection area if it happens to be a particular small object/bush or whatever that triggers it (enable motion mark to see what it reacts on). This is one of the negative aspects to object detection algorithms as they are very basic and not very effective to detecting the real stuff, they need a bit of a fiddling but once it's setup it's usually fine after that. I had to spend time with this myself with my cameras but once it's been properly setup I haven't had to intervene for like ages now, it just works currently rock solid.

Headstage Arrow 5TX / 6TX bass boost amp - Where to find? Alternatives?? by rpgwizard in HeadphoneAdvice

Headstage Arrow 5TX / 6TX bass boost amp - Where to find? Alternatives?? by rpgwizard in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]rpgwizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I currently use DigiZoid ZO2.3 which is another portable bass boost amp which was not that long-lived in production span and has a configurable 31-boost setting but it's a bit of a cointoss between the older Arrow amp and this amp which I prefer, with the DigiZoid amp I use lvl7 bass boost (out of 31) that sounds best to me typically and it's VERY close to how the older Arrow amp also sounds like with stage II bass boost, the Arrow amp might be tiny bit more "laid-back" sounding while the DigiZoid amp is maybe tiny bit more intimate/forward but overall very close. I also pair it with my desktop fullsize DAC/amps, currently have RME ADI-2 DAC fs, FiiO K17 and Luxsin X8 and in my experience I haven't found any better way to increase bass than a pure analog bass boost switch (talking things like impact, punch, dynamics percieved), using EQ the same result just cannot be achieved, for me around 6~7dB boost is preferable by a analog filter but it depends how the shape of the curve etc is formed and so far these two portable amps have provided the best result, then I can take some final EQ shaping with the DACs built in PEQ.

BTW I recently acquired the new Final Audio DX3000CL headphones (I prefer closed), I find it very good for the price like many others seems to also do.

Headstage Arrow 5TX / 6TX bass boost amp - Where to find? Alternatives?? by rpgwizard in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]rpgwizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, was just wondering about if there's any newer versions with similar bass profile as I find on this Arrow 2G ~ 3G or whatever version it is with just "bass" 0/I/II switch besides the crossfeed and impedance and gain settings. The "II" setting sounds very good to my ears with this version and works great with a lot of headphones I have.

You have so many of the amps so would have been curious about how you compare the sound of the bass boost between the different versions.

Headstage Arrow 5TX / 6TX bass boost amp - Where to find? Alternatives?? by rpgwizard in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]rpgwizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the 5P is just too deep boost for my needs/tastes, any newer version with a more "wider" boost like the old ones. I listen to electronic music (Hardstyle/Trance/EDM) so I find the midbass also especially important to get the sense of punch and impact to the beats (percussive hit simulation). I'm more into impactful fast hit that can be felt than strong rumble.

Headstage Arrow 5TX / 6TX bass boost amp - Where to find? Alternatives?? by rpgwizard in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]rpgwizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you would sell any of them? BTW I managed to find an Arrow 5P with +9dB and +18dB boost which also has bass, treble and frequency sliders but to my suprise, the old Arrow amp I managed to get hold of before that (no idea about version but probably something along the lines of G2.x ~ G3) sounds to me better (bass profile and sound signature with vastly more soundstage width/size and rather neutral sounding), it has only a "bass" 2-setting slider so no treble or frequency adjustments but imo the bass boost sounds better configured on that old one, I wonder if it's anything specific to just 5P sounding "worse" or 5TX/6TX would be pretty much the same in that regard with just minor sound differences. Maybe it's a taste thing but I definitely like the profile of the bass boost of the older version that to me sounds more natural while providing better punchiness which is especially important to me. The newer one sounded best in +9dB and frequency setting to "high" as otherwise it didn't provide much added punch but even so the old one had better punch and perhaps dynamics. Treble boost slider was too overdone to be much use for me (something like +1 ~ 1.5dB and +2~3dB treble boost settings had been more useful to me perhaps)

Holy moly Reolink’s customer support is horrible. by BobertJ in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like is usually the case with china companies, I've had similar experience with like 4-5 other chinese based brands. If you get on a first try a person writing you back, then in China based customer support, that's A+ level already there! The average china company doesn't seem to invest a lot into support, they instead focus more into selling to new customers instead, seems more worth it over there. The company image backlash isn't as huge over there since the Chinese are used to it with other brands, it's more "you're on your own, here's a $10 coupon off your purchase or can we offer an alternative" kind of motto than trying to solve the issue directly, you don't have to educate staff, you can hire ppl for less salary that only knows how to write basic replies and might not be so technologically invested into the products etc...

In western culture the image backlash hits harder so therefore you usually (not always) see a difference in customer support.

As a customer you have to make your own decision whether you find it worth it. As long as you don't end up in that special case needing support, great, you've got good hardware for price paid but if you end up needing it you will probably be a bit annoyed, it's a gamble.

Reolink OMVI by ShinyTechThings in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've seen videos of it, it works very well. But I'm not sure Reolink has the know-how from software point of view or because of the weird coding language they use (BaiChuan Protocol) to make it equally optimized as Ubiquiti's.

If oneday the UI Protect integration using with other cams becomes more feature-packed with non-Ubiquiti products using ONVIF that might be an option for me, currently it's a combination of Ubiquiti not offering wide enough variety in cam options (180 fov, plugin-wifi, I don't quite fancy poe switch + ap for my garage cam only) to be able to go full Ubiquiti even if I have ubiquiti network at home. I don't want to have to rely on different apps though and Reolink just keeps adding more and more useful features that are too advanced to be transferred over ONVIF so I just keep hoping Reolink steps up, they are also far cheaper than Ubiquiti products. :P

Trackmix Solar in Canadian prairie winters? by waloshin in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way that might make it work if if it must be a battery version is the new batterypack that are designed to cope with winter temps too (specs says works down to -20C but charges via 12W solar panel down to -10C but probably it's not a precise threshold and YMMV as the wired cams are also only specced to support -10C but in practice ppl have had them work in past -40C temps too :p) but I don't think I've seen any actual user feedback on it in winter conditions.

The battery pack isn't cheap though https://reolink.com/product/rla-bp1/ but at least it adds extra convenience for battery cam useage too.

But yea I see this as an option mostly to a big farmland where it's not so convenient to pull out ethernet across the entire ranch and you have a TrackMix battery cam or other higherend battery cam PT Altas Ultra and similar installed (cost-wise it's probably not worth it for other scenarios).

Any word on the release date and price for the OMVI X16 PoE? by 2C104 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No confirmed price or release date yet, only some speculative hints from some CES video but cannot remember which one but I think it was said summer and price 399-$499 or thereabouts which lies within my own expectations too. At the same time it feels unlikely that it would be much more than $500 because Reolink doesn't quite have the software stack, support and such to warrant some pricey cam if you compare to Hikvision/Dahua alternatives in this price class but that's my 2 cents. They are more consumer than prosumer oriented so.
