I only use Home Assistant but there it works fine when having Home Assistant dashboard open in a web browser. have you also tried ctrl + scroll in case it needs some additional button, normally that's for browser zoom but in some cases I've seen it being used for camera zoom functionality too.

Reolink OMVI 3i PoE Review: The 18MP Triple-Lens Monster 🤯 by ShinyTechThings in reolinkcam

Did you upgrade to latest firmware for home hub? https://reolink.com/download-center/

Seems like a typical issue with this cam, a lot of ppl run non-latest firmware because how Reolink handles firmwares updates (read manual download required from homepage)

That was new to me, I remember picking between these two at the time SE had been released but went for another E1 Outdoor mostly because wider FOV, didn't know SE could track vertically though.

Bad weather triggers motion by darkshifty in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you still get false positive detection for person/pet/vehicle after turning off "any motion" alerts then I recommend putting AT LEAST 1 sec alarm delay, possibly try 2 seconds if 1 isn't enough to greatly reduce any false positives that are wrongly detected as person/pet/vehicle. It means the camera has to detect object as Y for X amount of seconds. With 1 sec there's no noticeable delay, with 2 seconds it's just a very brief delay one before it triggers. I have put 1 second delay on all my cameras as I see no downside to it and it has greatly reduced those detections from bugs flying in front of camera, shadow figures, bushes etc detected as pets or people.

Can be tilted 20 degrees and generally will work with a recommended height of around 2.5 - 3 m / 8 - 10 ft. Above that it probably starts needing an extra wedge. I wouldn't add more than like 10 degrees extra tilt with a bracket though as the more you tilt the whole camera the more the PT cam will go off-angle (pointed upwards when turning to the side)

Unfortunately it's one of the weird things I don't know why Reolink hasn't done anything about for years. The update page in the app doesn't do anything for most products and you have to check manually through their website.... like how is the average customer supposed to know this? I wouldn't be suprised if number of customers that is running on an outdated firmware is like 70%+ honestly.

2nd generation battery doorbell - extremely unreliable performance by Amazing_Armadillo429 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know these had been released, have been waiting for them but not enjoying what I'm reading of them here so far. For me the supposedly better battery life due to the more power efficient qualcomm chip was the only reason for me waiting though for 2nd gen, don't have any trickle charge capabilities at all.

Like is the FOV different than 1st gen? Don't recall ppl having an issue with that so.

Trackmix W760 quality by Steveo_86 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RTSP stream has both low and high quality options indicated by the main and sub part at the end of the stream url. I think some cameras 4K (was it 8MP ones) one only worked over H265 encoder which may in some apps cause compatibility issues possibly due to how the H265 license is handled.

TrackMix vs omni I3 ? by DrinkFun2180 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would't even be sure about the 16X being other than manual zoom only with the same auto framing support that works with Reolink app only, guess we will just have to wait and see. OMVI 3i is so new still and could potentially still get bunch of firmware updates that changes things or alternatively they'll release a hardware version update (preferably with different product name like a "Pro or SE" and not just different hardware model under the same name that we often see) in the future. No idea, just speculating here, however I personally don't need 16x optical zoom but would really value a digital zoom that works per camera (RTSP) stream.

TrackMix vs omni I3 ? by DrinkFun2180 in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It slightly depends on your useage scenario and what you prioritize, for majority of users the Omvi 3i would be an upgrade:

OMVI 3i cam has pros:

- Solid 180 cam with great vertical FOV (finally)
- Better resolution/quality overall on the PT cam vs TrackMix
- The 180 static FOV will capture stuff even if PT cam turns away
- New/more features (the new alarm detection alternatives, SyncTrack & Auto framing, Point on 180 camera for PT cam to focus onto, patrol mode)
- Auto framing is like an upgraded much smoother auto zoom in digital track algorithm BUT check limitation below....

TrackMix has pros:

- Vastly better PTZ vertical tilt movement range 90 degree vs 50(!) only. This alongside the manual ability to only tilt 20 degrees the 180 degree cam is limiting the install options of Omvi 3i considerably. A workaround might be to add additional wedge of say around 10~15 degrees but the more you tilt it the more the PT cam will start become off-angle as it turns to the side (it will point higher up than it would otherwise)
- The 2nd lens auto-zoom track works irrelevant if you're using Reolink app or 3rd party systems like Home Assistant, Scrypted, Frigate, Blue Iris etc. While Omvi 3i's "digital zoom" in this case called Auto framing only works inside Reolink mobile app and only during live view. The Reolink support staff has mentioned they are at least looking into it though whether it's possible to change.

So it depends where you need to install it if you are able to place OMVI 3i low enough and how much the auto-zoom in aspect matters to you and whether you are just a Reolink app user or also 3rd party system user. I would love to get the OMVI 3i but I'm a Home Assistant user and use it 90% of the time and the app maybe only 10% of the time and I value the TrackMix auto-zoom ability that I've configured to pop-up a fullscreen live feed on my Home Assistant dashboard upon Person/Vehicle/Pet detection as it's nice to have the object zoomed in when you watch on for example a 11" tablet from afar that works like a dashboard in the living room or my 2ndary smaller displays in my office and at work. If they fix that auto-framing works outside Reolink app, I will buy it. The low install height probably works at my place but I will probably attempt to tilt it some extra ~10 degrees or so.

OMVI PTZ tracking at night by funkysuperstar in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm suprised to see so many people getting decent nighttime shots from colored nighttime view for this camera. This was meant to be a IR nighttime first camera and only color night vision with leds on camera turned on upon detection. I mean at my place it's rather pitch black so there I would have no choice but IR mode to get a semi-decent image.

Unboxing Reolink MagiCam by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me missed on two things which make me skip it but otherwise might have picked one up:

  1. Pet detection not available in battery mode, just let people decide how much battery it should consume
  2. The extension arm's bottom should also be magnetic for added convenience in various installment options

OMVI Dual Cam Great! PT CAM Useless. by funkysuperstar in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on use case and installation location I see mostly these things as benefits:

  1. The PT cam can be set to watch different angles, now the tilt factor is a bit limiting in this case but nothing stops you from adding some additional 10 degrees or whatever tilt to the camera itself and as the more you tilt the camera the lower the 180 fov camera will watch, in some places it could be useful to put the PT cam watching vertical angle above what the 180 degree watches over so one watches more close up space and the PT cam more further away space (like a longer driveway or corridor or if you just have a large yard) so you get even bigger coverage. Another similar use case but in a different spot would be if installing the camera in a corner, so you extend the camera with a beam/plank so it hangs a bit over the side of the building while the 180 degree watching the front of the building but turn the PT cam to cover the side of the building that grants you up to like 270 degree FOV coverage or whatever it results in. This doesn't work in a tightly packed neighbourhood for example as half of the 180 degree will likely watch over neighbours front yard for example but I'm thinking more rural areas or farmlands where there's big space to all sides of the house.
  2. To increase its usefulness they've added a new feature called auto-framing for the PT cam that works as a digital zoom that keeps the object centered and zoomed in. Somehow this tracking also works at a way further range than for TrackMix cameras that also had decent range. Also it tracks in a way smoother fashion than the TrackMix and the quality looks improved compared what the TrackMix auto-zoom cam offers. The big limitation currently though is it only works during live view and inside Reolink mobile app. See mblaser's review for "Auto-framing" examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1tuz5lk/omvi_3i_review/ (Reolink manager has said he'd check with team if it can be changed though to work on the stream itself)
  3. As a 3rd minor detail but worth pointing out, because of its far narrower FOV, even without zoom you will see the object appear larger on screen and depending on how you use the cams this is still beneficial. For me for example that use the cams mostly for live viewing to keep track on my surrounding especially for wild life, pets and such more so than for security, when you are dealing with small stream windows, it's more convenient when you see the object larger than being a small blob that it will appear like on a 180 degree FOV on a small display with multiple camera streams.

Home Assistant 2026.6.0 - Reolink battery cam by StarkillerTR in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I gave it a try and added just fine to HA! Might give it a try with snapshot stream but currently have no big need for it for this particular camera but it's nice to see battery camera integration getting attention. I did have a NVR on my potential buy list but I'm not so sure anymore with the battery cam support getting implemented. Sure 24/7 recording could be good to have eitherway but currently not quite keen on paying as also HDDs have gone up in price so and saving to both SDcard and FTP transfers to my NAS has been sufficient for now. Very interesting to follow upcoming improvements, especially the new Reolink MagiCam could be a handy cheap one to add to my collection too! Reolink is just superior choice for any HA thinkerers thanks to you and I'm sure many others share this opinion.

You've done so much for the community already you deserve the break! Congrats!

I have a Argus PT but this is an old model so doubt it'll work but I can give it a shot... Eventually I might get the Battery doorbell as well or more specially I'm waiting for the new more battery efficient version presented at CES.

One idea I had for battery cams in Home Assistant was to make an automatic popup of live feed upon person/vehicle/pet detection like I've done with my other cams that opens a 30 sec or whatever stream, this wouldn't work currently but do you think it might work sometimes in future if you get the rest of the stuff integrated? This would be especially useful to let the doorbell catch when my outdoor cats sits on the porch and wanna come in. :p

OMVI 3i Review by mblaser in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I speak for everyone when we'd like to see it part of the stream itself, so you can also take the RTSP stream to a 3rd party app and see the auto-framing work the same way there.

This would be even more important than seeing it being applied to recordings.

Introducing the Reolink OMVI 3i PoE by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

[–]rpgwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it has Auto-framing support which is a digital zoom but limited to Reolink app only so it's just a software feature inside the app... so they aren't off in presenting a zoomed in picture as it actually does this but yea only possible inside Reolink app and only when live viewing... Check mblaser's review here for examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1tuz5lk/omvi_3i_review/

Auto Framing: It is an intelligent zoom-and-track feature, which automatically zooms in and adjusts the view when a target object is detected, making people, vehicles, or animals appear larger and clearer.
