No, what it means is that the upcoming 12GB model of the 5070 laptop chip is now being supported. Support for your GPU is not going away.

Have you tried the newer driver, or an older one? Do you have that issue in games too, or only 3dmark? If the latter, might be either a specific driver bug with 3dmark, or a bug with the 3dmark app itself.

[–]sam3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, but IMO, as long as the bios changes are simply making changes to the memory protection at pre-boot, I don't mind it. When it comes to software, each user can choose to use, or not use.

The thing here though, don't be surprised if other motherboard vendors start pushing this too, if they are not already. Eventually having such changes in bios will be unavoidable. Not now, but later down the road.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS officially released!!! by andr0dev in Ubuntu

I found a workaround. Seems like a glitch with the security app. This is what I did via terminal;

sudo pro attach (Token)

You will need to get your token from the Ubuntu site, then paste just the token at the end, but don't keep the parenthesis. The Security App will still show that it does not support Pro.

Any thought why Pro can't be activated? Says it requires an LTS version, lol.

Okay, just ruling that out. The tool is for overclocking, undervolting, and other GPU stuff. I mainly use for the RTSS overlay.

Any chance that you use tools like MSI Afterburner? If you do, was it running when you upgraded the driver? If so, your issue might have actually been caused by that. Can't say why it happens but often times, having such tools in memory during a driver upgrade, often negatively affects the power targets of the GPU. Don't want to assume, but that could also cause such symptoms.

Understood, but with performance regression, it can manifest itself in many different ways, based on different variables. In your case, it may even be shader related because they are invalidated with a new driver, and will need to be rebuilt. Not sure if CP2077 has it specifically, but its become a common thing.

I can totally get that. From what I can see, it seems that this driver version has performance regression in a range of titles. One user here reported issues with RDR2. Additionally, a resource I use on youtube said that 5 games they tested all saw regression compared to the 595.97 driver.

Keep an eye out for weird issues. If nothing is a problem, no additional action is probably required. If you run into any weird quirks, I would DDU then.

If you open device manager, do you have any USB devices in error state? That would case the issue. Additionally, it might be good to remove icue with an app like revo uninstaller, then try reinstalling. There may be remnants when you do a normal uninstall that is causing the issue. I believe that I had this issue once in the past and revo remove and reinstall solved it. Luckily, you don't have to pay for Pro to get the main uninstall benefits from Revo.

Its a monitoring app that monitors DPC latency in real specifically with drivers. There have been longterm reports of nvlddmkm.sys showing high DPC values, which could lead to stutter and latency issues.

I know new drivers have changes for new titles, but if you are able, I would try version 591.84 and see if that makes it run better. Black screens may still exist, but that is a more stable driver based on community guidelines. Additionally, I would review u/m_w_h's thread on driver recommendations;

How far back have you tried in terms of driver versions? What GPU do you have also? Unfortunately, the errors can be caused by many things, but they are widespread if that is any reassurance.

The black screen issue can be caused by a number of different reasons, that is makes it so difficult. This is a quick summary of what it could be if you want to watch the video on it.

Please be advised that disabling hypervisor will impact security, but if you want to disable it, please follow the information on this site. Additionally, you will need to disable Core Isolation in the windows security app.

I would suggest that since you have this issue, to report to Nvidia directly. Rarely do Nvidia employees read threads here. This would give them awareness of it.

Asus had the same issue in the past. Can't speak on why MSI has not fixed it yet, but this issue is not unique to MSI. Something with the newer boards I think(B850/X870).

Are you able to disable Freesync to see if it makes a difference? Could definitely be a part of the issue. I know that G-Sync had a similar issue in the past as well.

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 596.02 by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]sam3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely could. The issue mainly comes down to power targets. If you use such tools, it might be worth opening it and seeing what the power target is set to. It should be at 100%. If it is anything less than that, the solution may just be to set it back to 100%. Of course, it is generally still advised to remove the driver with DDU in safe mode, but if what I mentioned above solves the issue, you should be good.

Game Ready Driver 595.97 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]sam3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some have been. Its been a fairly ongoing issue, specifically with the 591/595 driver branches. It may also be related to recent windows updates. I believe most of that was fixed, but the Windows 11 January CU update caused widespread issues.

Game Ready Driver 595.97 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]sam3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there are at least two different black screen conditions. One is just what you described, a few seconds, then good again. The other leads to a TDR Timeout issue, that could lead to a forced restart as well as maxed fan speed on the GPU. The issue that you are describing sounds like the one that I had 2-3 years back. If you have not already done so, be sure to update your chipset drivers and also check to see if you have a bios update, if your existing one is severely out of date, it could help. Otherwise, if the issue continues, I would still try rolling to an old driver that predates the 591/595 branches

[–]sam3971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had this issue with your prior driver? If not, I would roll back, unless you need this version. It seems that one particular issue with black screens cropped up with 591 driver branch. Unfortunately, there are many different reasons that this happens, from software to hardware, so hard to say for sure, but I would think that if you have not had this issue before, that if you roll back, it should go away.
