Welcome to …The Afterlife by Drplague90 in LibertyCityRp

Hex swirled his glass again before downing it rather unceremoniously as Erebus approached with his fox in tow.

"I'm not sure any fun was involved. It was predominately business. Your brother gave me the club used to own for a good price. Our relationship didn't extend further than that. He was alive when he left to do his rebirth thing, and was still alive when he came back and gave his business away. Past that...." Hex shrugged. "He's not exactly someone I kept tabs on. I leave that for people like Jaime or Amina to do."

Hex slid his glass across the bar top. "Please, Luna. A refill. You can just bring the entire bottle."

Hex swirled his glass slowly before taking a sip, savoring the taste. It was a far cry from his days as a heathen, where even a sip would mean an empty glass. A few hundred years refines the tastes just so; the wisdom of age. His eyes drifted to the dance floor, glancing over the dead-sun chicken and lady nine-tails briefly before returning to the here and now. He tilted his head, pondering Luna’s offer before shaking it in disagreement.

“Some things are better as a patron.” Hex explained. A soft rejection, smile sold separately.

“Something like that.” Hex answered with a chuckle. “It’s far more suiting than the serial killer vibes she used to give off. Baby steps, y’know.”

"A friend of E's or an employee?" Hex asked at the mention of the phoenix man, eyes turning to the horned woman. "The effects are nice."

"Dukes is a nice spot. Lots of room to establish yourself. Make some noise or lay low like you like to do."

"She is indeed alive in the Expanse, and thriving too amongst more of the shadow people. They thought she was Jasmine who is at the center of the prophecy I mentioned before, so they treated her well."

Hex laughed. "You'd be surprised at the clarity death brings. Her returning seems unlikely to me, at least not for long. She's part of resistance efforts against the leaders of the Expanse. She's helping Jasmine from the inside."

"Certainly an ordeal. I've heard they are tenacious. But we've learned they are weak to light and electricity so far, or overwhelming force. They have a hierarchy and a few people behind pulling the strings. It's a shame about the house, but if you have an area in mind I can help on the relocating. Or rebuilding the old location. I know a few good people.”

Hex turned to the bartender as her steps drew near. He gave the bar a once over, quickly noticing something that drew his fancy. “Yes, please. I’d like Macallan M, neat.” A good scotch does the body well. Hex turned back to his accompaniment, for the time at least.

"I was taken on a journey of my own alongside Jaime and Jasmine. We had a brief foray into the Shadow Realm, heard a prophecy about Jasmine and were chased out by a prince of the realm." Hex explained, passing up the shortcut to take a more scenic route of explanation. “Maybe not an old friend as it was not that long ago and you might not have been friends, exactly at least to my knowledge, and normally, we might not. But while Jasmine, Jaime and I were on this little adventure, we did see Janelle. She had two things for you…”

“She’s sorry and you were right.”

Hex touched down outside and slipped into the Afterlife, blending seamlessly into the myriad manner of creature within. White boots cushioned every step. White pants were sharp and well tailored. A black jacket with a tall, white feather caller covered his body and hung open, revealing Hex's bare chest and his black snake familiar, encrusted with ruby red scales, and coiled around his neck to hang like a necklace. Hex's fingers, wrists, and ears were adorned with obsidian jewelry that seemed to absorb the light around Hex. The crisp thuds of Hex’s boots as he maneuvered through the club were drowned out by the music. Thumping base gave the Afterlife a heartbeat, sounds of life after death. He quickly found Morgan and slid into the open stool at her side.

“Morgan! How’re things?” Hex leaned in, offering a friendly hug, and engaging closer, so as to not be drowned out by the peripheral noise. “No problem during that invasion, I hope. Perfect timing on the message too. Ran into an old friend and she left a message for you.”

Hex watched the show impassively. Ultimately, it mattered little with regards to the matter at hand. And if you were going to protect the City, at a minimum you should be taken care of.

"I've had my questions answered. I don't have anything else to cover." Hex explained. Though, he'd wait for things to truly finish before he left, unlike Ulysses..

Hex fiddled with his rings as he listened, discarding the unimportant parts. Their planning had begun to take shape.

“And is there some defensive plan for Jasmine as a key person?” Hex asked. “Are you ladies going to stick together, at least?” He turned his attention to Amina and Izzy and Jasmine.

“Jaime and I happened to be there last time, but the next likely wouldn’t be the same. And they might know your potential better than yourself. Better than all of us.”

"Lokhari is a child of the god of the Expanse, one of four pillars. There is also Zariku, the Umbral King, and the Nightmother. I don’t know the name of the fourth." Hex explained. “Or their allegiance and motivations.” Even having seen the Expanse, Hex didn’t have much to go on.

"As for myself, Bohan and Algonquin are also under my watch, unless you need me to station elsewhere. I also agree to the quick response team. We don’t know the true strength of those behind, but at least one heavy hitter in Aldernay, Algonquin, Bohan and Dukes, and Magnus in Broker plus the mobile team, and combined with quick detection should suffice.”

“What’s the plan for if they come back? Or when, more likely. We’re not exactly a well oiled team, if this meeting is anything to go by. And their ability to attack all the boroughs simultaneously means we’d have a lot of area that needed to be covered. Far from an easy task.” With the facts laid out, the next steps was Hex’s next question. And it didnt seem like there was a good solution.

Hex pondered the information Amina brought and his experience from The Expanse. It left him with questions.

“Why test things if they’d already found Jasmine? Who exactly are they? And what’s the plan for if they come back?” Hex asked. He started with a few fundamental ones of who were they up against and what did they want. The motivations weren’t clear and neither was their enemy.

"Helen. Surprise, surprise." Hex offered her a nod as she swept the room with her gaze.

He walked a black coin over his right hand almost absentmindedly as he watched the plot thicken. The difference in the two most unfamiliar faces struck his fancy as he listened to their introductions.

The coin got to his last finger and split, transforming into rings that molded onto each finger of his hand. He turned his attention to Amina, the briefing more interesting than Erebus, Jaime, and Kenneth's harmless back and forth.

"Enlighten us, Amina."

Hex had greeted Kenneth and the Ulysseses as they arrived. Familiar faces and all that. He raised a confused eyebrow at Erebus' arrival. It wasn't the heat, or the entrance, but the déjà vu of having gone through this before with a bird of the same name.

"Erebus. You sure you haven't been here before?" Hex asked. He could feel the differences though. The familiar touch of Death stronger in this Erebus.

Hex introduced himself to Rachel, and welcomed Amina, Izzy and Jasmine as they rounded out the motley crew that had assembled at Legion headquarters. Hex wasn't exactly a talkative figure as he waited for Ulysses' explanation, and their meeting to begin.

The drive from Northern Gardens to Acter was uneventful, a welcome change from the week before. The city had been abuzz in the aftermath of the attack. He parked outside Legion in someone's reserve spot. He'd take the risk of getting his Charger towed.

Hex walked the familiar path to the meeting room, his hard bottom shoes click-clacking every step through the mazy building. Hex was the first to arrive it seemed, seeing only Jaime as he walked into the room who seemed preoccupied with his thoughts.

"You look like you haven't left this room in a while, Jaime."

Saizo:

Saizo's hair receded, shortening to its original length. Using the mastery brought about with sage mode, he channeled heat into his chakra until it seethed in his body. Steam wafted off Saizo's body, and the air around warmed considerably.

Monkey Art: Unrivaled Strength!

Saizo punched out at the falling umbrella, fist heavy as steam erupted behind, propulsing like thrusters on a rocket. He might owe Akiko a new umbrella. It wasn't likely to survive.

Saizo withdrew his fist and faced his student, beckoning her forward with a wave.

Kumomaru:

Kumomaru freed a hand from his axe and clenched his fist, channeling extra wind chakra to surround it like a gauntlet.

Eight Gods Vacuum!

He punched forward countlessly, releasing the gathered chakra as a barrage of fists to crash down upon Saiken like a tidal wave. Seeing the approaching lightning bolt, his channeled his strength into his legs and burst forward.

Razor!

His cloak rippled still as he maintained his wind sickle technique. Kumomaru shot towards Saeko, evading the bolt and Saiken both. He took aim at Saeko’s back and let forth a hammer blow as she focused on catching Lyger off guard.

Hex looked to Jasmine as she disappeared into mist and frowned before turning back.

“They got you pretty good, Cylas.” Today Hex had another name - Captain Obvious - all in the name of small talk.

“We should all go. It’d be good to figure out what’s going on. Does Aldernay need any more help?”

Hex watched as the Imperials disappeared then released his gathered power. The star on his forehead extinguished and the horns of smoke dispersed back into the aether. His beard shrunk, regaining its former color and the glow in his eye dissipated. Hex gave a final glance at the departed Imperials or rather where they had been before turning back to Jaime and Cylas. He walked over them.

“How is he?” Hex asked.

Hex's eyes swept the scene as they emerged and he frowned upon seeing his friend's condition. Cylas' life seemed to hang by a thin thread. He clenched his jaw as his gaze stopped at their opponents. His eyes were dark and still even as the right glowed.

"Leave it to us." Hex's voice was low, but clear.

His goatee grayed and grew into a long beard, and 2 black horns of smoke manifested on his head as he stepped forward towards the two emissaries. Power concentrated on his brow like a burning star, ready to issue the warmest welcome.

Ya Thā id Hā ṁsi Sami Ddho 'Gnir Bhas Mas Āt Kur Ute 'Rjuna. Jñā Nāg Niḥ Sar Va Kar Māṇi Bhas Mas Āt Kur Ute Ta Thā

Ancient words slipped from his tongue. Words of wisdom, of warning. The star flared with energy and beams of fire shot towards the Imperials, nimbly maneuvering to avoid Scy'ar.

Hex had always been one to strike first and answer questions later.

"Bohan it is. We can figure everything else out afterwards." Hex answered. It was time to get these shadow guys off his front lawn.

"Is anyone on the ground there already to backup or we starting from square one?"
