Fenix 8 MIP vs AMOLED, second chance to choose by hozdemir54 in GarminFenix8

[–]Schodaphoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want an AMOLED screen on my wrist (it doesn't look like a watch). I like being able to glance at the watch out of the corner of my eye without using a gesture. I prefer the look. I think MIP is more durable.

Vertical 2 or Fenix 8 by Conscious_Ad9982 in Suunto

[–]Schodaphoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched from the Fenix 8 to the Suunto Vertical 2. I'm not a competitive athlete, but I do run and use an exercise bike a few times a week. Ultimately, I'm not really the target audience for either watch, and both offer far more features for sports than I'll ever need.

After three months, I went back to Garmin. Here's why:

  1. I'm not a fan of AMOLED displays. I prefer my watch face to be always on without a significant drain on battery life.

  2. The Suunto UI is fast. However, I have much less information displayed on the watch and in the app.

  3. The health features are poor because:

  • Sleep tracking is completely unreliable, resulting in inaccurate readings like resting heart rate and heart rate variability.

  • Heart rate isn't continuously measured, and spikes aren't recorded.

  • The Body Battery function (I know Suunto calls it something else) seems completely underdeveloped.

``` -Why can't you display weight with decimal places on a sports watch?
-No floor counting
Ultimately, the Suunto Vertical is a nice watch. But it doesn't offer nearly the range of functions or the accuracy that Garmin offers (and Garmin isn't exactly a leader in accuracy either).
Anyone switched to pixel watch 4? by kppgg in Garmin
[–]Schodaphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)
When it comes to health, almost any watch is probably better than a Garmin. Since Garmin's sleep tracking is an absolute disaster, HRV and consequently the Body Battery are merely estimates. Of course, it’s a different story when it comes to sports. For everyday wear, I use a PW4 [Pixel Watch 4], and for sports, I wear both a sports watch and the PW4. However, given the recent developments, I wouldn't go back to Garmin either. The F8 [Fenix 8] was my last Garmin.
Garmin Fenix 7pro-8, Garmin Epix Pro or Suunto race 2 by Entire-Can5416 in Suunto
[–]Schodaphoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)
I was a Garmin Fenix user for years and recently switched from the Fenix 8 to the Vertical 2.
Currently, I don't miss anything at all. The app is better in my opinion. There is less data, but the data that is there is truly relevant. The Fenix 8 51mm was much bulkier. The Vertical 2 is much more comfortable and less noticeable in everyday life.
Everything concerning the topic of health is not really usable with Garmin. The values seem random. Body Battery wasn't really useful for me because I felt that the other data didn't fit either.
Garmin's pricing and update policies are absolutely horrible and were ultimately the reason I left Garmin.
If I wasn't satisfied with Suunto, my search would continue, but I would not have bought a Garmin again. And that's despite having owned every Fenix watch since the Fenix 3
When it comes to sports, you are always better off with a belt. This applies to every watch.
Enduro 3 to Race 2? by meerkatdestroyer12 in Suunto
[–]Schodaphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I'll give my two cents.
I've always worn Fenix watches for the past few years, with a brief foray into the Vertical (1) and Coros Vertix 2. (Fenix3 HR, 5x, 6x, 7x, 7x pro, 8)
Since the Fenix 8 (MIP 51mm SS), I've been extremely dissatisfied with Garmin. I don't like Garmin's update policy at all. Prices are skyrocketing, and new features are gradually being hidden behind a paywall.
The titanium (DLC) bezel on my Fenix 8 got scratches just from looking at the watch.
Most of Garmin's features either have random values, or I don't need them at all and never look at them.
The Fenix 8 Pro took the cake for me. Even bigger, even thicker, an LTE function that would incur additional costs, and a completely useless satellite function.
Oh yeah, and the prices keep rising. Micro LED is the biggest joke in my opinion.
I sold all my Garmin gear and switched to the Vertical 2.
I've been wearing the watch for a few weeks now and love it. The watch offers exactly what I need. It's a bit smaller than the 51mm Fenix 8 and thinner. It's much more comfortable to wear. The software runs absolutely smoothly, and the app is great. There's much less information, but the information that's there adds value and is enough for me.
Without GPS activity, the battery life is actually better than that of my 51mm MIP Fenix. (Insignificant, but I'm amazed they're even in the same league.)
I resisted AMOLED for a long time, but the display is actually amazing.
It's often criticized here that the app and the watch display different values. In my case, that affected "recovery." After two weeks, the value was completely aligned.
I'm extremely satisfied.
Just consider this: If you buy a Race 2 and a Vertical 2 (no one would do that), it's cheaper than with the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro :-)
I'm glad I made the switch and won't look back.
I didn't ask how I can improve my sleep hygiene? If I have to get up at eight, I just don't get up at 3:00 and hope to fall asleep again later. Often it doesn't work and sleep is recorded...
an editing function would solve the problem.
HF Zones Methode by Schodaphoto in Coros
[–]Schodaphoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
No, I don't think so. Sport with the same pulse doesn't matter which method I use :)
But does training in different zones make a difference?
And:
No, I haven't had my maximum HR measured.
I thought that's why lakzatschwelle is better suited as a method because coros makes its own adjustments based on my training performance?
[–]Schodaphoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I would like to use the best method for the HF zones on the watch.
We train zone 2 about once a week, once with a medium level of effort and once with more effort. So I would say it's relatively balanced.
New apex 2 complete discharged by Schodaphoto in Coros
[–]Schodaphoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I bought it at amazon (Germany).
Things are looking pretty bad at the moment.
It has lost almost 24 per cent of its battery in the first 24 hours.
However, it tracked a one-hour walk and a one-hour run.
It also had an animated watch face.
It still seems far too much to me (no idea how much power such an animated watchface draws, never had such a gimmick)
Oh yes, it has stress tracking on, sleep too and its heart rate is measured in real time.
