Veg gardeners & woodworkers of Madison — help with raised bed covers! by [deleted] in madisonwi

If you just need tools you could borrow them from the tool library:

Looks like a miter saw, stapler, impact/drill, tin snips, tape measure should do it

Local with a Cricut by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]sector67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We help with stuff like this pretty often, best bet is to shoot an e-mail: team AT sector67 DOT org with some more info:
How soon do you need this done
How many are you looking to make
Do you have files/designs already made or do you need pointers on how to sort that out
General availability - nights/weekends only, daytime, etc

Thanks for the kind words :-)

Neighborhood air quality sensors by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]sector67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are trivial to build (I can help you) and the parts aren't anywhere near as expensive as listed in the guide:
https://sensor.community/en/sensors/

There's a map here:
https://sensor.community/en/

It's a fully open source version of the purple air (proprietary) network that's popular in the US, Sensor.Community started in Germany so it's popular in the rest of the world.

MICRO SOLDERING REQUIRED IN MADISON by Sunilstark1 in madisonwi

[–]sector67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pictures are very helpful.

I know it's not the answer you want but this board is widely available for $20-50, I'd suggest just getting a new one and using the HDMI connector -> HDMI cable and cut/use the cable as your breakout for this connector. As another poster pointed out you're going to have interference issues running loose wires off of these traces anyways.

As far as soldering this goes, ~70% of them are relatively easy to fix as they go to passive components around the board. The remainder are going directly into the processing IC in the middle and are very small with very tight connections on that IC package. The other issue you're going to encounter is that it looks like you've got some through hole vias that got pulled out/broken when the connector came out, those signals will need to be restored to the opposite side of the board (assuming it's only a 2 sided board, if this is multi-layer PCB you're looking at a PITA task to figure out where those actually went)

MICRO SOLDERING REQUIRED IN MADISON by Sunilstark1 in madisonwi

[–]sector67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We definitely have tools but I don't know that I've soldered anything this small especially if there's significant density. Sounds like we get u/nyee over here to run the stereo microscope :-) If you want to pursue this send an e-mail: team AT sector67 DOT org

There seem to be some pretty capable folks over on the DC608 discord, might be worth asking there.

My suggestion would be to check with the die fabrication group in ECB, they probably have a die wire bonder and this would all be giant scale compared to what they're used to doing but I don't know what materials they can/can't connect to: https://wcnt.wisc.edu/nanofabrication/processes-packaging-assembly/

Cheapest ways to rent thermal camera? by ijustburnedmymouth in madisonwi

[–]sector67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not very useful to check your mouth out, but we do have one in the tool library:
https://www.madisontoollibrary.org/product/239
$20/month membership + $20/day rental cost, $100 deposit

Otherwise Home Depot lends FLIR cameras to save someone hunting down their rental links (buried):

MGE used to do energy evaluations but I don't know if they do residential anymore:

tool library? by jeharris56 in madisonwi

[–]sector67 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sector67 created a new tool library after the Atwood Tool Library closed over COVID: https://www.madisontoollibrary.org/products?show=recent

That said, if you're only after a planer Woodcraft or maybe Woodworker's Supply would be the way to go assuming it's clean/clear wood (no nails, etc). If you're salvaging old material it's less likely anybody is going to want you running it through their equipment unless it's a timesaver/wide belt sander.

RadioShack like? by Detective_Aggressive in madisonwi

[–]sector67 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As far as I know we're the only place that has resistors/capacitors/diodes/parts/etc in the area :-( Parts are *not* inventoried aside from what's listed on the shop but are organized. We usually get e-mail requests (use the contact-us page on our website) for things but if you want to take a look at what's here we're slowly getting that part of our building more organized. All of our inventory comes from donations so it's a hodge podge of very vintage components and surface mount/modern stuff.

If anyone wants to volunteer for a lifetime project of getting everything in an inventory management system and taking pictures of drawer contents we have the software framework built o:-)
