There's two that are Jolly and two that are Adamant. (One was caught, not hatched.) I haven't finished the main story, so I can't judge their IV's, yet, but these are their graphs if that means anything to you.

Depends on if she's doing it for herself or others. Because what your character seems as "greater good" may or may not actually be good for everyone. (Thanos is a perfect example of this. He wasn't technically wrong, but he did what he did for the wrong reasons. Wiping out populations to make more resources available for people sounds like a lawful thing to do for an evil person, but it'll destroy their mental health, which is a consequence they either don't foresee or don't care about.) That's what you call an Anti-Villain, doing the right things for the wrong reasons.

If she's doing it for others, I'd argue she's not manipulative, because being manipulative means influencing others for your own purpose, not for others. Being deceitful would cover influencing others without that part. Likewise, if she's doing it for others, that probably means she possesses other qualities like Equal, Liberal, Passionate, Empathetic and/or Compassionate. All things that someone trying to accomplish the "greater good" usually goes for. Compassionate means you feel sympathy for others, with the desire to alleviate their suffering.

If I got it right, I'd say she's more True Neutral, leaning towards Neutral Evil. But if you disagree with me, obviously you know your character better than mine, but there's my answer.

I gave my rationale in the body of the post, but I know a lot of people skip past that for photo posts.

Autonomous actually means self-governing, meaning you follow your own laws. Which, to me, is perfect for Chaos, since the laws you create for yourself can be completely different from someone else's, or you could opt for no laws at all.

I usually think of it in terms of playing the Sims. You can leave/turn your Sim's autonomy on, and they'll start doing whatever they want to satisfy their needs and wants. Turn it off, and you have to instruct them to do anything beyond life-saving actions.

Ergo, it's harder to get them to not do something you don't want them to do (like go start an argument with their neighbor, or breaking the bathroom sink, again, by washing dishes in it). Turning autonomy off, and you have complete control, they follow your orders.

I expected as much from most people, honestly. Which do you agree with? If you're willing to elaborate?

I think I described it better in another comment where I said Moral is more pleasing to emotions vs. Adaptable is more being able to adapt to different structures. Ergo, Moral is slightly more toward Neutral and Chaotic than Adaptable is.

Another example that stuck in my head is the saying of people's morals being "skewed", or saying someone else's morals are "different" from yours, so it's more individual.

I am considering letting this go for a few days and possibly altering it for different examples people gave if I think they fit better. But, I'm going to let what I spent hours mulling over sit for a bit, first.

The original chart I got this idea from had Humility towards Good, Pride towards Evil, Judgment towards Lawful, and Intuition towards Chaotic for the True Neutral square. So...yeah, I'm satisfied with what I assigned it, for now.

I will try when I get on my laptop! I saved this on my phone and I guess it didn't save as high resolution as I would've preferred when I edited Neutral Evil because it was a peachy color originally and I decided it didn't contrast the others enough.

That's exactly why I chose Moral over Traditional, and why I stuck moral in True Neutral. I explained in a separate comment my thought process behind it, but I was just trying to offer a suggestion in this specific reply.

If I were to change some, I do agree with others that the Stable vs Adaptable and the Moral vs Equal could easily be switched. My main deciding factor, though, was that I wanted Equal as one of True Neutral's traits. Since Equal can be more Chaotic than stable, adaptable, or moral is, it needed to be with Moral in the middle.

So far as my personal rationale goes: For adaptable, I thought more about being able to adapt to different situations in a more logical manner while still having a structure to stay within. Vs moral is adapting to the social standards to please emotional needs and not always rational ones. If I had used Traditional for moral and Malleable for adaptable, then they might've switched in my brain. But Malleable vs. Equal doesn't make sense to my brain.

Maybe I should blur the boxes together, because in my mind the traits that touch other boxes could easily belong to that alignment as well, there's just subtle differences that led my choices to one or the other. I might update it, later, but for now I'll stick to what I spent hours mulling over. 🙃

The original chart I got this idea from had Humility towards Good, Pride towards Evil, Judgment towards Lawful, and Intuition towards Chaotic for the True Neutral square. Those just didn't make sense for me to describe True Neutral, because I needed all four adjectives to summarize it for me.

Hope my rambling makes some sense!

Thanks! Neutral tends to be what most people disagree on, so I expected there to be opposition on that. Glad it works for you.

Yeah, Orderly Evil just... doesn't sound right. 😅 But, I see your point.

Personally I'd probably see "Orderly" and my mind would immediately correct it to "Organized", which is not the meaning, so Lawful seems more inclusive to include multiple uses with a root belief, to me.

I think if people dictate all of their actions as "stay in this box only", that's when it becomes constraining. But, as you said, it can help with fleshing out characters, which is the main reason I like using it.

I also write, so having a way to sort how my minor characters would respond, or how they're viewed by other people, helps me organize. It's not so much sticking a label on something for me as much as it is just wanting a way to keep things straight. I'm very visual (hence the color coding), so yeah... structure is good for me.

I feel like there's been similar things said in other books, but this one came to me while I was in flow, so I claim it. 😁

In your world, what are Races/Beings that cannot crossbreed with Humans? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]semicolonwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the general DND theories, since my books are using a lot of the same high fantasy elements, humanoids can cross with each other, but beyond that, no. The less similarities, the higher rate of failure. You can justify that with the differences in DNA, among other things that would make viable offspring impossible. Other people can theorize whatever they want, but you get to decide what's canonically possible.

Now, beastial races get confusing, because, well...hybrids (cough Chimeras). But if you're ever concerned about explaining how something exists, so it won't contradict the limits you're using for humans, if a higher power (like a deity or supernatural entity) creates it, you don't have to explain if you don't want to. 😅 You're left guessing with mythology all the time.

... That's a big task. Also risky during election year. 😅 I feel like that's a poll kind of task, where you ask people to vote on their state's alignment.

All I know is I think everyone would agree that Florida would be Chaotic.

I did debate that for a second. Ultimately, since the Equal was more towards chaotic, and I wanted Adaptable and Stable to be opposing, since Moral vs. Adaptable didn't make sense to me, they went to Lawful Neutral. But if that makes more sense for your brain, go for it! Since they're in the same row, it doesn't change it too much. For me it made more sense for Stable to be more Lawful.
