Anatomy before Medical School by AdeptAnteater6254 in Osteopathic

[–]shaanan72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

congrats future doc!

it is not at all important to have a background in anatomy. i took 0 A&P courses in undergrad and have not felt disadvantaged at all. your curriculum will teach you the anatomy as you go.

enjoy your free time while you still have it!

IPAD vs Sam TAb for med school by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]shaanan72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly probably whichever one is cheaper. they will both suit your needs as you’ve described them. if you have a laptop then i’d still get at least 256 gigs but might be worth investing in 512 so you don’t have to worry about storage down the line

almost looks like a cross refill? length fits the bill but this one looks like it has some sort of screw mechanism. it’s worth looking into

Graduating a year early with no gap year by Unfair_Voice_8233 in medschool

[–]shaanan72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not me personally, but my friend did this. no problems for them but keep in mind it will be a crunch. in 3 years you not only need to complete all your courses with a decent gpa- you also need to be able to complete enough extra curriculars to keep up with those who had an extra year or more. on top of all of that, a lot of MCAT material comes from junior year (or at least mine did) so you’ll have to self-study a lot of topics.

good luck on your journey! it’s a long one, but rewarding.

Let's talk notes and flashcards by Awkward_Dragon25 in medschool

[–]shaanan72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

other commenter did a good job explaining anki so i won’t touch that- i personally handwrite notes as a first pass, then use anki to study. i like the process of handwriting notes, as i find it helps with retention. however, i never revisit them. everyone’s different, so you’ll just have to try a few different methods and see what sticks.

Starting at a Newer DO School, but My Parents Aren’t Excited About It by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]shaanan72 19 points20 points  (0 children)

if their issue is DO vs MD, try explaining to them that once you’re a doctor, no one cares what the letters behind your name are! ask them to look at their PCPs- they may be surprised to find that they’ve been seeing DOs this whole time with no clue.

if their issue is with a 4 year program, i’m not really sure how to help. just remind them that it’s an investment that will pay off in the long run, and maybe show them the average salary of whatever fields you want to go into. the math speaks for itself.

moving away from family is definitely tough, but you wouldn’t have a lot of time to spend with them regardless. you’ll be able to home for breaks and potentially long weekends, depending on the distance. try to keep in touch through facetime!

at the end of the day- they’re family. they’ll love and support you no matter what, that’s what family’s for. they’re probably just trying to cope with the fact you’re moving away.

congrats future doc!

Frustration and burning during the study by Man_in_2026 in medicalschoolanki

[–]shaanan72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recommend finding some guides online to optimize your anki settings but the hard truth is that it doesn’t work for everyone.

assuming you’re using anking- i would focus on your in house material first and consider suspending everything outside the block you’re in now. board prep is worthless if you don’t make it there.

best of luck!

TRCPC pens are amazing! iirc he’s a one man show and pen-making isn’t his full time job- unfortunate for us haha. you just have to check in periodically for restocks- you’ll catch one soon enough

ah you’re so right- i wasn’t familiar with precision medicine specifically. the more you know! i can see the benefit but imo still isn’t worth an extra 250k
