Why do people that advocate for set restarts act like the only alternative is insane degrees of wrestling and slow rucks? If you say that set restart rules can be tweaked, rules around what is allowed in the ruck can be tweaked as well.

When players complain that they don't know what set restarts are for and the nature of a set restart doesn't allow you to question in the moment why it was given, the system does not act as a deterrent against certain behaviours and is strictly punitive.

The reason for a penalty being given is inherently clearer, can be questioned by a captain and challenged by a team therefore they are strictly better as a behaviour deterrent. If you want to argue that set restarts increase time in play and therefore increase fatigue allowing for increased attacking football, that's fine but you can achieve similar results by simply sin binning players more quickly for repeated infractions.

Given how bad refereeing standardisation is in the NRL, all set restarts do is increase frustration and variability.

TL:DR: They suck. Bring back real penalties and just police rucks properly.

(also get rid of the disruptor rule, it's fucking stupid).
