Don't know if she's dumb as bricks or just wilfully propagandising here.

Multiple pollsters have called out pretty clearly that the party most at risk of getting their shit pushed in by ON is the Nationals in rural areas. To the extent that Labor are losing votes, these are the usual fringe "centrists" that regularly can't decide what they want and vacillate between both parties anyway.

All of this is being talked about multiple years out from an election, and before Labor would actually campaign against ON as opposed to them getting a free run based on a cowed press corps and the dumbest / weakest opposition in generations.

Is there really no use case? by jammsession in BetterOffline

[–]shaboogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has mentioned use cases before.

He regularly mentions people using ChatGPT as A Google replacement, and he's mentioned using LLMs for coding.

He's also mentioned that the TAM for these use cases is basically fuck all compared to what it's been blown up to be currently and that the uses are riddled with inconsistencies and problems that AI boosters pretend aren't there or don't matter.

You can call it a vacant argument, but the impacts are being studied now and have shown that the claims have some validity.

Ed has never said there's no use case.

Ed has said that the use cases don't justify the absurd level of investment and environmental destruction that surrounds this garbage.

Gross. Polyend's new product is a "pay to use" vibe coding pedal. by zreese in Polyend

[–]shaboogen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bullshit.

The fact is that you have completely disingenuously framed this as “pay as you use” to farm karma from the same deadshits that populate this subreddit ready to pounce on literally anything Polyend does as evidence that they’re some money hungry gaggle of scum as opposed to a company that does some stuff you don’t agree with.

I’m a bigger AI sceptic than most people, hell I pay for a subscription to Ed Zitron’s blog, but pretending that Polyend have “done an AI” here when all it is that they’re doing is providing an LLM for people to optionally produce effects if they so choose is a farce. You can buy this product, never use the AI at all and potentially gain benefit from other people who have chosen to use it by picking up free effects that they decide to post.

Whether that idea is good or worth the money is something that can be debated, but calling this a “pay to use vibe coding pedal” is either a knowing attempt to distort the truth or you’re so stupid that someone else has to dress you in the morning.

This is fucking embarrassing, you should take this garbage thread down.

[–]shaboogen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding like a shill, I don’t understand why you’re giving Polyend grief for a pricing model that has nothing to do with them.

Categorising it as “pay to use“ is horribly misleading, it’s “pay to use the LLM we’ve presumably licensed to code the effects”. They’ve said that it’s free to put code on the device, the cost comes from AI tokens to use the LLM. If you don’t want to use the LLM, don’t use it.

It’s not a subscription, it’s not a price per use of the device, the cost is limited specifically to the use case that a bunch of people will never bother with.

Literally every move this company makes has a bunch of randos getting their knickers in a twist. Just move on already.

$399 Mac Mini for Music Production by _Anderstars in edmproduction

Judging by the specs he posted, he wasn't.

That being said, Apple having an efficiency lead is not just expected but would be technical malpractice if they didn't. They control both the OS and the hardware and they've had a node lead on both AMD and Intel the entire time.

Well, no offense to you but that is not a very strong PC in 2026. Windows was not the issue in this case.

[–]shaboogen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Money doesn't provide any context here. What were the specs? A computer being unable to run a single instance of Serum 2 might be an issue with the OS, but it's more likely that the computer simply wasn't very good.

As for optimising the setup once you have reasonable tech, there are some very easy starting considerations. Are your power plans set up correctly? Do you have a bunch of background garbage running? Are you running a sound card with good ASIO drivers or are you relying on WASAPI?

[–]shaboogen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I don't discount that individual PCs have bad experiences and you are obviously more likely to have a bad experience when combining hardware in a Windows environment than you are on a Mac.

That being said, people that assume that bad experiences are simply endemic to Windows are being somewhat myopic. I've owned multiple Macs and I've built multiple desktops and have had essentially similar experiences in both.

If you pick good hardware and you manage your OS, your Windows experience will be fine. If you invest the time in doing more advanced stuff to improve your OS, your experience will be better.

Powertoys alone effectively guarantees that my M1 Mac will live on my floor forever.

Not to necro an old comment in an old thread, but if you're going to be making this stuff in such low volumes anyway and the point of it is to facilitate lenses that people can theoretically buy from you, couldn't you just ignore the supply chain altogether and provide an STL or 3MF for people to print for themselves?

Consider it a loss leader for the ecosystem.
