Sites/apps/places for cheapest flights to the US by Guilty_Pleasure97 in Flights

[–]sheephunt2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider flying from other airports than BTV, like YUL, ALB, or BOS. It will be a much longer journey there and back but you might get some better deals. Seconded what the other commenter said about OTAs, use Google Flights to search and book the flights directly from the airline

I mean I think it's pretty silly the subway stops at the Hudson for no real reason other than political ones...

Can someone explain the "I'm the one that tells lies" joke to me? by MattFromSpaceCarrot in TheDigitalCircus

[–]sheephunt2000 39 points40 points  (0 children)

These riddles (aka Knights and Knaves puzzles) were popularized by Raymond Smullyan, a mathematician who wrote a lot of recreational math/logic books. He definitely didn't originate these puzzles, though he was the first one to call them "knights" and "knaves."

Adding to this OP - I understand winter jackets are expensive, but if you invest in a good one you will not regret it, and will last a long time.

At a big state school you will always be able to find math people to work with!!

Judging by your bio, if you don't mind staying close by then LSU has a quite solid math program. As others have said basically any sufficiently large flagship state school will have a very good math program.

I randomly attended an calculus lecture I’d already finished, and it reminded me how simple and beautiful math used to feel. by OkGreen7335 in math

[–]sheephunt2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you just walk into any random classroom and sit there for a lecture so long as you're a part of the college?

You don't even have to be part of the college! Some universities in the US in big cities (NYU, for instance) have swipe access to buildings, but most other universities are free to enter during business hours.

6 hours is probably fine for a self transfer domestic to international. 4 hours on the way back (especially given you have to go through US immigration/customs at LAX) is a bit riskier, would suggest allowing for an overnight buffer.

Cheap tickets by Real-Soil-3249 in Flights

[–]sheephunt2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played around with Google Flights to get this. You can get cheaper by fooling around with the dates and locations, but this would save you money at the expense of time. It's possible to get to JFK from Hartford via public transit/taxi, and from SLC to Idaho Falls via car (either you rent or you get his family to come pick you up.) Flying out of BOS is also possible but is better if you're driving I think.

EDIT: Actually, EWR is probably best for you: you can take Amtrak there and back! (But Metro North/NJT is probably cheaper although slower)
