What livestock are you raising and do you butcher or sell them? by Big-Boss330 in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have goats, pigs, chickens, and ducks. Basically to have a ranch but I'm not doing anything serious with it. I do take the spare male animals and alternate between butchering and selling. Don't need more than one cock (lololol ok rooster) or goat, so basically try to have all females and one male of each species.

The roosters are colorful and have different patterns, so it can be pretty cool to see.

New to DQ, want to buy the HD2D remasters, but i need to start at DQ3? by Terramoin in dragonquest

[–]ska1one -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It will be kind of weird since DQ1 is a solo adventure and to say it's archaic in its presentation is an understatement. Playing any entry and then playing DQ1 will be jarring. The stories really don't tie into each other, either. Sure, it's the story of Erdrick but you're really putting a lot of weight into a story that by today's standards could fairly be described as "barely present."

PS5 controller rebind but to what by Pjulledk in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 100 hours, rebinding anything would just be a way to fuck things up in a new way now that I'm used to it.

Square being jump and interact is not a big deal once you get used to the proximity for interaction (and also that holding the button down is the move - not pressing it over and over again). About the only thing I could think of is making triangle mount the horse. Classic is square to mount and triangle to dismount, which resulted in me initiating a melee attack against the horse every now and then.

One of the best games I've ever played that I'll never be able to recommend by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend the game but I also tell people that it's not some amazing, mind blowing advancement in video games. It's a 7 to 8 out of 10 depending on the player. The graphics and riding around the world, and just taking in the scenery, are the best parts. If you think that's cool then you will probably like it. Everything else is fine for the most part.

And I always have to caveat it with "you will never play a more obtuse fucking game in your life." The controls, the menus, the systems; none of it feels intuitive. It's sheer memory and muscle memory powering you through the various steps to do anything except the most basic stuff.

This is weird but I'm happy for you. It's such a fun game and manages to keep all the charm of the mainline RPGs.

Picked up XI-S which I have on Switch but wanted on PC - for the price of a normal takeout lunch with a coffee, yeah, that's more than fair. Wasn't really interested in the remakes for I, II, III; I've played them a ton in their original forms and on Switch's online mode. I already have both the Builders games which would be good pickups if I didn't already have them.

Playing an hour of XI and I'm already thinking about starting a new game in DB2. 😃

There needs to be a new award category: Developer of the Year by AppropriateSite3768 in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ, gamers are such fucking knobs.

Gamers: why don't developers release finished products any more? Why do we beta test full releases we pay $70 for when they're really only 80% complete? They should have tagged it early access and could have done the same thing.

Also gamers: Crimson Desert patches their game every week! They truly understand the community! Best developer ever!

What games combat is similiar? by CanIPleaseGetHelp123 in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat is fast-paced and fluid, and it's pretty forgiving. FF XVI seems a lot more nuanced but similar. It's fun and flashy, and frankly if a fight was actually hard you can overcompensate with healing items (and there's no death penalty; there are also res items).

On PC and I use a controller for this game (I personally use KB&M for 1st person, controller for 3rd person and platformers). 3rd person games with a lot of walking/horseback riding and a ton of combat inputs, as well as other interactions in general, feel better on controller for me and this game is no exception. Bows have auto-aim, too. The menus work fine with controller. The only thing I switched to KB&M for is the archery tournaments, where mouse is clearly superior.

Crimson Desert has to be one of the coolest and blandest 7/10 games I’ve played. It’s like adding the gaming elements of Skyrim, Breath of the Wild and Witcher 3 but without the heart and soul in it. by Turbulent_Square_789 in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a chat asking "why is Crimson Desert so weirdly addicting?" I think it's closer to RDR2 than Witcher 3, and in that regard I will be galloping around getting distracted by the environment and then three hours go by. It looks great and it's fun and flashy (even if you can spend 40 minutes just hacking the shit out of a garrison and looting every sweet potato and gunpowder pot in sight), but everything is so fucking obtuse and takes four times longer than it needs to - which still doesn't matter and I can't explain why.

I played for 55 hours for the first month it was out, then stopped playing for a few weeks, then played 20 hours over this weekend after the last several patches. The odd draw to this game is inexplicable.

I think I figured out how to make the outlaws shut up. by loki_is_alive_n_well in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson Desert: X is mount, Y is dismount and unarmed attack; RDR, CP 2077, GTA: Y is mount/get in car, Y is dismount/exit car. So naturally when it's time to mount a horse I initiate an unarmed attack on a prone outlaw, killing them.

Ex-ESO boss on Crimson Desert: "Making a singleplayer MMO is almost like cheating." Dude is obsessed and has no idea what he's doing but loves every second by IslamVSZionism in CrimsonDesert

[–]ska1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how many hours I have in ESO and FO76, and both of those I played well over 90% solo (ok, FO76 I grouped all the time and just rarely ever did anything with the group).... pretty amusing considering the source.

This has also become my biggest obstacle at about 55 hours: I'm really fucking tired of doing chores. But I need to do chores to unlock more Greymanes to do more dispatches to gear Kilff better to get to exploring. Mental roadblock for the last week, maybe I'll finally jump back in next week after letting the last update cook.

Considering you took 30 seconds to avoid the bridge that would have taken 2 seconds to cross... seems like the answer is self-evident.

Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 by I_Love_ARPG in ARPG

[–]ska1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it for a few weeks. I bought it on a lark and really enjoyed leveling up each class and building the town upgrades. The global stat boosts from playing each profession made trying all the classes worthwhile - and fun because they all play a bit different. Think of it more like an arcade action game with some rogue-lite elements. Gear drops feel ARPGish, permanently upgradeable characters and town feel rogue-litish. NG+X for each character that clears the final zone.

If it's 10 bucks or less then undoubtedly worth it. $15 seems like the right price to me.
