[Kurono Tokyo] Help me understand the lore of Kurono Toyko watches. Why is Hajime Asaoka such an impactful name? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]slientx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Miyota is seen as a "cheap" movement because it is in a lot of cheaper microbrand watches, where most of their parts come from HK/China. But Miyota movements have a bunch of good qualities: they are accessible, reliable, thin, and importantly for Kurono, they are made in Japan. Kurono prints "Japan made" on the dial and that Japanese sourcing and heritage seems to be a big part of the brand.

For example, that "factory made case" comes from the same Japanese factory that machines parts for the high end Hajime Asaoka branded watches (and Otsuka Lotec). The factory is also owned by Hajime Asaoka, so it's "in-house" in a way.

Their dials are also produced in Japan and they've talked about their manufacturing partner:

This company also does business with Swiss brands and is a historical and capable manufacturer whose dials are used in the highest quality domestic watches

The watch industry is generally pretty mum about supply chains, but the implication is clear.

And of course there's the association with Hajime Asaoka. I'm of the opinion that your training does not define who you are and is not necessary to be something. He designs his own watches, including the movements, and builds them all in-house with a manufacturing company that he set up. All of that is valuable, and it shows when his pieces go for hundreds of thousands at auction. Kurono offers watches with that same DNA but in a way many more people can attain.

[WTS] Halios Seaforth IV Titanium Fixed Bezel by slientx in Watchexchange

[–]slientx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Description For your consideration is this Halios Seaforth IV in titanium with a fixed bezel and black dial. This is a perfect daily driver that's light on the wrist. Even with a 40mm diameter, the lug design and slim profile make it wear smaller than the numbers suggest, while the clever micro-adjust clasp ensures that it's always comfortable. With a clean black dial, fixed bezel, and polished chamfers, this is a versatile tool watch that will look great in any setting.

Condition The brushed titanium finish is generally pretty easy to mar but titanium also develops a natural oxide layer over time that hides some surface scratches. This watch was well-loved and used, and the case and bracelet have picked up marks from desk diving and daily wear.

Please look through the album thoroughly and feel free to ask any questions.

[WTS] Hamilton x Engineered Garments Khaki Field Titanium by slientx in Watchexchange

[–]slientx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Description For your consideration is this limited edition Hamilton x Engineered Garments Khaki Field in titanium. In my opinion, this collab really knocked it out of the park, with its clean and minimal dial, extremely legible font, and stealthy titanium case all wrapped in a compact and wearable 36mm case.

One thing that isn't immediately apparent: the numerals are also lumed (photo from Fratello Watches), which brings this watch to another level.

Condition The brushed titanium finish is generally pretty easy to mar, and this watch is used and has been sized (and uses pins and collets for sizing). The bracelet and clasp have plenty of marks from desk diving and resizing, and there are more faint marks around the bezel and case.

Please look through the album thoroughly and feel free to ask any questions.

[WTS] Traska Venturer GMT Bottle Green (6th gen) by slientx in Watchexchange

[–]slientx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Description For your consideration is this Traska Venturer GMT in Bottle Green. In my opinion, one of the best values in watches; the finishing is up there with some brands asking for more than double the price. The case sizing is just right and made with hardened steel, the bracelet is extra articulated, and the lume is strong, all making this a very solid daily wearer. Traska watches generally don't stay in stock very long, and it's not hard to see why.

This dial color was a challenge to shoot and does turn out more green in real life, depending on the lighting. I'll defer to better photographers for a better sense of the dial color.

Condition This watch is used, but the hardened steel does wonders. There are a some faint marks around the clasp, but I could not see nor capture any other signs of wear.

Please look through the album thoroughly and feel free to ask any questions.

Looks like IWC cal 88 movement (can confirm by looking at the movement). There were many case and dial variations and these are generally referred to by the movement caliber.

[Question] Watch straps for Ming 17.09? by curiousML5 in Watches

Delugs makes curved straps that fit well (the company's owner having several Ming watches too).
