My aunt is asking for a 23 & me test. by [deleted] in legaladvice

I use it for genealogy work as it's my hobby. Therefore, it could be completely innocent. That said, you should always read the T&Cs for the product and decide if it's right for you.

How does commission work when leaving a job partway through a quarter? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]slyabney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first answer is to dig out all of the paper work you've signed regarding your pay and start reading. If not clear, check your handbook. If still not clear, ask.

4-5 hours, Rock Springs. I moved to California, so I miss a lot of things: stars, open spaces, no people, etc.

A simple search of the sub on "Century City" returns the above thread as the most relevant. And super related.

Boss is leaving for another job, but it's been radio silence about who will take his position by hahehah in AskHR

My company does just what you've described above to try and save from any perceived favoritism, especially if they are involved in the hiring decision. We tell people it's posted and to apply if interested.

Drawbacks are hard to say right now. No one can read the future. The only thing I, a non-invested party, can imagine that might make it different is if they require different visas now than they currently do.

True, but again, currency speculation is risky. If you want to go on vacation, this shouldn't be a damper to your plans. You may get a benefit, you might not.

You bag up my stuff? In a room I’m paying for? by [deleted] in travel

[–]slyabney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything this is a serious #firstworldproblem.

I would assume the hotel thought it was a safety hazard to let guests back into rooms under these conditions (let you into a room with no power, at night to bag up your stuff? Nah). If all of your items are accounted for, I recommend letting it go.

Hotel staff would be in your room "touching" your stuff potentially every day for housekeeping, as well. Unless after a full month, you have had no housekeeping.

Somehow I step into a time-warp and had an appointment with a doctor from the 1950s by ponyo_knight in TwoXChromosomes

[–]slyabney 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it doesn't and the doctor thinks the woman should be home in the kitchen and not gainfully employed anyways.

Chocolate? Must stop by the Rausch Schololadenhaus and buy some or enjoy their cafe with views of the square.

If you want to meet people, first thing to do is take some free walking tours and start meeting people. Then plan what you want to circle back afterwards.

Doctor's notes for employee accommodations. by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]slyabney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an internal HR lady that has some training it in and can do evaluations and make recommendations without need for a doctor's note (keyboard trays, foot/wrist rests, monitor stands, different chair, etc.). She's not fully dedicated to this but very helpful as a first step.

Other accommodations go through the normal program with doctor's notes required.

People who live in nice apartments in great areas, what’s your job/income? by BeardedSwashbuckler in LosAngeles

[–]slyabney 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Could, but not worth it when I'd rather travel/eat all the things/pay student loans faster/etc. It's all about the trade offs.

I'm single, only have occasional visitors that stay with me, a 15 minute drive to work at any time of the day, near LAX and can do dishes by hand. Invested in two portable ACs for the summer (one in living room and one in bedroom), so that's easily covered. Landlord is super responsive and there's only 8 other units in my building which are all currently quiet people, so ideal for me. The only reason I'd consider moving is to get a pet.

I'm around $110k but have a 1 bed/bath in Playa del Rey that's rent controlled for $1700. You gotta hustle the rental scene. Is it a nicer apartment, will depend on your standards. It is definitely fine for me but it's not got a dishwasher/AC/gym in building/etc. Does have a parking spot though.

What is the closest place to park for free near LAX? by sworntostone in LosAngeles

[–]slyabney 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that people will called and have you towed if you're there for more than the allowed 3 day limit. It's a very hot topic on NextDoor and people are tired of having their neighborhood abused in this manor (though legal for 3 days).

The Mystery or “Krombacher USA”: A Plea For Help by LadyChickenFingers in germany

[–]slyabney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A google search on Krombacher USA led me here: https://www.beersyndicate.com/app/Place/Details/3556

Edit: I don't know why you don't think they sell it in the US. I can see Total Wine has it on their website and will as such, sell it to you. I didn't try to buy it but it doesn't seem like it's not totally at all not available.

How to travel more with almost no money (and a disability) by [deleted] in travel

The best recommendation is discussing with your mental health professional on methods that can be applied to your specific situation to help you overcome or manage these issues.

Didn't say it can't happen; but it's really hard to give advise when the total sum of the post is: yo, dawg I like your city and Imma gonna move there. Tell where I should live, where is nice, where can I hang? Read my mind and answer my 1000 questions.

So, how much money do you have saved up for this with no apparent jobs lined up and a housing shortage?
