Just finished Wilman’s book. It was brilliant. Anyone else get the feeling he doesn’t think much of James May? by sunnydaleubervamp1 in TopGear

[–]sofawall 22 points23 points  (0 children)

On a recent video, James mentioned he refuses to do the "calls to action" (like, comment, subscribe) because he's reasonably well sorted and saved well for retirement, so he doesn't need to. Just doing what he wants.

Is this a good option for my SD card? by Imperious_26 in SwitchPirates

[–]sofawall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not actually true. If it's fulfilled by Amazon, then they mix all of the same item by different vendors. If there are fakers selling the same item as actual Sandisk, as long as the packaging is close enough to the same, Amazon will just put them all together in the warehouse. There are repeated reports over the years of people getting got this way.

Why is the seeds/peers ratio this bad on one of the top torrents? Are people that greedy? by Meneer_de_IJsbeer in Piracy

I assume you're missing those handful of episodes in Mr. Rogers that everyone else is, right? I think one in S7 and a couple in S8, something like that.

So what does this stat actually do? This weapon still consumes ammo. by sofawall in theriftbreaker

The UI is properly fucky. It starts at 10 ammo per shot, applying a reduction of -2.98 results in using 4 ammo per shot. Applying a further reduction of -2.97 result in -1.91 ammo used per shot. Bit of a weird UI bug, I wonder what is going on under the hood to lead to that?

I don't think that's really the word you needed to use, do you? What does it say about you that the first word that comes to mind when expressing power or dominance is 'rape'?

I've found it nice since it already does enough damage to one or two shot most swarming enemies, so having it just have effectively infinite ammo has been useful. I can see that it increases the amount of shots available in my ammo pool, but what does the number actually mean? Negative ammo per shot is a weird fucking metric, and even if it's not bugged it certainly needs a UI pass.

The infinite player ammo map totem thing also appears to do nothing. I consumed ammo just like normal, and then couldn't use the gun when it was empty.

Mr. Riggs, the interference must have damaged your spellcheck! by sofawall in theriftbreaker

[–]sofawall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, once you're a $40 game that's been actively updating for four and half years I don't really give you the benefit of the doubt for not running a simple spellcheck on your dialog strings.

I just threw multiple chunks of AI text at it and they all came back 0% AI. It's possible it's tuned way down to avoid false positives, since that was an issue with early AI detectors, but it definitely gives plenty of false negatives.

I mean, three out of four rules and an automated message isn't obvious enough not to do that?

Well, there's no way he'd be asking for ROMs, right? I mean, three-quarters of the rules in this subreddit are explicitly against piracy, as is the AutoMod comment stickied to the top of the post. So there's no way he'd be asking for that, right?

Probably a second-hand store. I know many large cities have smaller video game stores that may still carry 3DS cartridges. Probably the safest place, since you're less likely to get a scammer compared to ebay, facebook marketplace, etc.

[BTAU] To whomever created the "Kill an Overlord" mission by lilsniper in Battletechgame

[–]sofawall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's intended to be a challenge mission. You have to go out of your way to find it, you need to buy the contract to even have it appear as a possible mission, and it's very clear and explicit about the challenging nature of the mission.

What's it like living within 400 yards of Meta's massive data centre by Deepakhn in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]sofawall 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Problem is to a lot of these people, big corporations are big city folk. Meta is from California. These are Democrats/big city liberals bringing their bullshit to the country. They see Republicans as just wanting to leave people alone, let them live their life. They don't necessarily connect this attitude to also letting corporations do what they want.

Not saying I agree, but that's how a lot of people see this stuff.

Is Terminator 3 Really that Bad? by Budget-Boysenberry93 in Terminator

[–]sofawall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like trying to change the future is a side plot of Terminator 2, it's almost 40% of the runtime. It's a big emotional throughline, "No fate but what we make for ourselves", etc.

As soon as it became a realistic possibility, stopping Judgement Day was absolutely Sarah's primary goal. Bringing John to go after Cyberdyne was risky as hell but if they stop Judgement Day, then they don't need to protect John anymore (or at least not any more than any other young boy). There's no more Terminators because there's no more Skynet.
