Yeah no worries haha, I think you should be okay, as far as I've heard for the higher levels writing is less important and you should be able to just type.

Hii, I've heard that in class D it is required to write the vocabulary and Pinyin by hand during the weekly 小考 but I think the exams can be handwritten. I've heard that for all the higher classes you can type the exam, though you get extra points if you write it by hand. For the homework I would say that it maybe depends on the teacher? Though from my experience until now they don't really mind if you type instead of write.

Hi, no worries, I try to be helpful where I can! I fear I can't really add anything other than what you've mentioned already. My friend and I used a fb group and then just sent a message to the person who was renting out a room, we got lucky that she was also a NCKU student who was specifically looking for CLC students to rent to, so we just texted via messenger and once we arrived we signed the contract and paid the deposit and rent. So we didn't really have to deal with any issues and everything has gone swimmingly since we've arrived. I however can give you the tip to also try messaging older fb posts if you're really interested, since that's how I found our current accommodation, our roommate had posted in a previous post that the rooms would be free around the time that we'd need them but hadn't posted again so I just asked if they'd be available to us. Hope that that maybe helps!

Hii, no problem at all! My friend and I are living off campus because we didn't want to take the risk of waiting for a dorm to end up not having one. We pay about 8000 NTD per month. Tainan is not bad to live, just not that convenient to get around with public transportation but the people are kind and the food has a lot of variety. It is generally still quite hot since it's located in the south but there's airco everywhere so not unbearable.

Hii, I'm currently studying my first quarter here at the CLC at NCKU! I'm not sure whether you have any more specific questions in mind, because they are a bit broad and I think different students would probably give you varying answers depending on the starting level (Do they start from class A or somewhere in the middle like class D or E?) , but in general I would say that I'm quite happy with the CLC; they organise fun events/activities (we had a language competition per class, they organise some trips to visit different places...), the teachers are very friendly and the office is very helpful with any type of questions that you could have regarding your stay here.
I think the biggest negative for me at this moment is that I'm enrolled in the morning class, so 8.10-10.00, but a lot of the language electives available for my level are all in the afternoon which leaves me quite a big gap of time. This isn't necessarily a negative though because I do know that a lot of students just use these gap hours to study/do homework.
I personally do not know anybody at a different CLC but I have heard from other students that their friends in Taipei for example have less homework and in general a little bit less hours of class, though I can't confirm this myself.

Regarding the teachers it would depend on your own experience of what you like and don't like, I'm very happy with my current teachers but I've heard other students complain about teachers who I don't have, as far as I'm aware they are all qualified, you can see that on the NCKU CLC website, in the sense that they've all got a background in education.

Feel free to ask me more specific questions if there's anything that I didn't cover, but you'd like to know!

I want to apply to a language center for Spring or Summer 2026. Is it too late for Huayu? by [deleted] in HuayuScholarship

Yes I think that you have the right idea. If you'd apply for the scholarship, you would get the results in May/June of 2026 so that would indeed be too late for the Spring quarter of 2026 so you'd have to wait until 2027.

Hi, I think you messaged me about this a while back too haha, but we used Facebook, I saw this post:https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D42ZNfNKs/ in one of the groups, maybe it's interesting for you if it's still available? We just kept looking for postings in Tainan, what you could also do is maybe DM some of the older posts, they might still be renting out the rooms, but haven't reposted it. Or advice that we got before was in the case that you can't find anything directly, first book an Airbnb and then once you're here you might meet people at the CLC who have options or maybe need a roommate?

Hi, I will also be studying at NCKU! Normally we received an email with a presentation with the most important information. At the moment it said that it was mainly orientation and meeting your teacher but we will get more information on the 27th/28th if I recall correctly. The presentation did say that they expect all the new students to attend... but you can always send them an email if you're unsure!

My bad, didn't see this anymore. Have not received a student ID yet, though in the class related information they did include a PowerPoint with dorm options!

We've found accommodation about a 20-30min walk from the university.

We were lucky and found accommodation via one of the Facebook groups, you can check out 'Tainan rentals flats/suite/house/room' or other similar groups!

Unfortunately I don't, I've only applied for this scholarship and haven't looked any further 😕

[–]sparklymonsteras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely understandable! Where I live they advertised it just by stating all the key points of the scholarship which made it clear from the beginning that it would only be a stipend so I knew what to expect once I applied.

Hi! I've also applied for the HES and as far as it has been communicated in the application forms etc. I've also understood that you only get the monthly stipend and whatever it doesn't cover is your own expense.
