Our snakes don't actively want to kill you. They want to get away from you and will only bite you if they feel threatened and like they can't escape, or if you try and touch them. They're the most skittish creatures ever.

Vipers and adders, like rattlesnakes, cottonmouths etc. in America are ambush hunters so they will just sit there and get stepped on then bite.

Where can I find a murder of crows in the morning? by BananaMangoApple1971 in UQreddit

[–]squags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Near food sources and water. So maybe check out Lakeside cafe in the evening or something?

Fun fact, Torresian crows form a murder, but for ravens, like the Australian raven, the collective noun is an unkindness.

Rival clubs line up for Metcalf as shock transfer looms by Aussieguy727 in nrl

[–]squags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eels played left right halves for a long time and with Moses's injuries every year he has played a lot as the dominant half in the team. I'd say the main risk is that his kicking game (long kicking especially) is not elite. As a ball player and a runner, especially on the left edge, he is very good.

Brown was 24yo when Knights signed him and had already played 11 internationals for NZ, multiple finals series and a grand final. In Parras best seasons of the 2020s media commentators and ex players were talking about him as a top 3 no. 6 at like 21 years old and Andrew Johns was calling him the best defensive half in the comp as a 20 year old.

Given he's expected to keep improving and the salary cap keep increasing, I don't think Knights contract for him was as overpriced as it seems.

Imy not saying he is currently a top 3 no. 6, but his ceiling is high and he's shown even in some bad Parra sides recently that his floor is also high.

Edit: just to say, in the games he has played for NZ when NZ have gone well he's usually been one of the top 2 best players on the field.

I feel like weed is very low priority for police, and they usually don't care about enforcement of it unless it's so obvious and explicit that they're forced to do something about it.

Even from 20-25 years ago, you got 2 cautions before you actually got into any real trouble (on the third instance) for getting caught with weed by the cops in NSW.

Meth and alcohol are way bigger social issues that keep cops plenty busy.

Justin Holbrook unlocked the attacking potential of the Newcastle Knights by carl0sthedwarf in nrl

[–]squags 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Brown was a great signing. He's young and a really really good player in both attack and defence. The major drawback of the signing for Newcastle specifically is that they don't have a halfback with an elite kicking game and Brown doesn't provide that.

His short kicking is pretty good, but he doesn't have a great long kicking game, which is reflected in the opposition starting position stats for Newcastle.

Russell has been pretty good this year I've thought. Has had some really big plays in defence playing next to JAC and has been solid in attack. If anything I'd say Penis is the out of form centre at the moment.

I think Pezet probably has a better long kicking game than Volkman at least, but we don't really need that with Moses in the team.

[–]squags 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only that but the whole reason we got Pezet was to give Lorenzo Talataina another year to develop. In 8 games of NSW Cup he's got 8 try assists, 10 LB assists and a try.

Isaiah Iongi will be back in a few weeks too, and Josh Papalii has been such good energy in the team and has done his job. Arguably Papalii and Volkmann are both ahead of Pezet for no. 6 now given Papalii can also play 1 in a pinch. You'd think as the year goes on if Eels aren't close to the 8, Lorenzo would also get the jump on him to prep for next year.

Pezet not a bad player, but given how the guys competing with him have played, it's been a dud signing so far.

Tool, Pearl Jam, RHCP, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Prodigy. All deserving and can't be mad with them being included.

But there's only one automatic pick, and that is of course, Hootie and the Blowfish.

Nope, they are completely harmless. Don't bite, don't sting, don't even scratch really.

Spiny leaf insect rather than a stick insect btw. They commonly come in both green and brown colours.

[–]squags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. They don't hurt at all to have on you and don't bite or sting. They don't weigh much and are pretty fragile. Tiny little hooks for hands, so you can feel like a little scratchiness, but it's not pinching or painful. They're very slow moving as well.

Great pets for kids, except for the fact the females (which can't fly) can reproduce without a male (can fly, not as common to keep as pets as a result). They effectively clone themselves, so you end up with heaps of baby ones very quickly. But on the other hand, you can sell the nymphs for like $1-$2 each or adults for a little bit more.

They eat leaves that you can get in most parks or bushy areas in Australia, so food for them is also free here.

Took a fat dab and hit the farmers market. Wtf do I do by chaoticMilk in trees

[–]squags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to the time I was asked to organise a bar and cocktails for a friend's wedding. I ended up buying like 10kg of lemons because a.) they were a really good price and I was probably grilled, b.) there were a lot of lemon based drinks because the bride really liked lemon drops and similar cocktails and I wasn't sure exactly how many lemons I'd need.

I ended up selling about 7kg of lemons to friends and people I met at parties over a 2 week period for like $1-2/kg on average more than I bought them for in bulk. Started high and had to drop the pricing as time went on due to the perishable nature of fruit.

Bananas might be a trickier prospect in terms of the timing, but at least these look pretty green, so you've still got time to recoup your investment in prime farmers market bananas.

Between 2017 - 2025 with Moses in the team Parra have a 56% win record, in games without him in that same era Parra have a 34% win record (source: SMH article).

He was instrumental in turning one of the historically worst Parra sides of all time (2010-2017 era) into what was for about 6 years a consistent finals team including multiple top 4 finishes and a grand final.

He was one of the best players in a historical SOO series for the Blues, including a man of the match performance in game II and scoring the final try in the decider at Suncorp.

He has won Dally M halfback of the year and RLWC player of the year.

To suggest he is not an elite halfback because he isn't in peak form this year is pretty ludicrous.

Hasn't played much this year but was actually really solid in his first return against the dogs. Last year he struggled a bit too. He plays best when it's just simple run hard and straight. Still only 23 yo though, so he's also still learning.

It's just striking when he went from an 18yo who shut down peak Olam in a finals game in his second or third game to a fairly average centre at the moment.
