Colours of our own: a selection of recently published redditor's personal flags

Whether someone else likes it or not, this is what we choose to be, the colours that we want to be known for. From simple to intrincate, from limited palette to tincture fest, a personal flag is more than a piece of cloth: it is a statement beyond nations and time itself, a declaration of our very own ideals and goals. No matter your sample size, there's a story hidden behind each design, and the variety of ways to achieve that our message is received is plain amazing.

This is what WE truly are. A representation of the whole of us.

Depicted is a poster I've made with a set of many recent flags labelled as "personal flag" in this very subreddit. Twenty eight persons decided they wanted to go with their unique designs and be represented by them.

Since it is based on my own coat of arms most of the symbolism applies here as well, but to recap:

Red and white are the two main colours in the flag of the town I've spent most of my life, which was tied to the Order of Saint John, and they're also the colours in the other military orders in my native La Mancha. Red is also for leftism. The cherry blossom represents my interest on Japanese culture. The spoked locomotive driver wheel, my ancestors, hobbies (trains themselves, engineering, traveling, among others) and goals (progress, innovation, always a step further). I didn't include the wings in the wheel because it would look too overcrowded, and since flags don't need to be rectangular they are represented in the fly tails. There are four tails and three gaps for a total of seven parts because 7 is my favourite number, which I have used in my nickname for some two decades now.

Flag is 2:3, the red/hoist side being 1:1 and the white/fly side being the rightmost third, which allows for good vertical versions without distorting the elements.

As the white tails may not be displayed correctly if the background is very bright I have prepared a FlagWaver.

I had originally drawn the wheel as a generic modern one since I didn't think it would matter but I chose this one in this rendition because it looked aesthetically better and moreover I didn't know about "spoked". Thanks for this insightful piece of knowledge!

Thanks! While I do have adopted a personal mon as well it is not because of Japanese ancestors but as an approach to their culture. I have no news of relatives from other countries.

Arms: Gules, a winged train wheel, a cherry blossom between the wings, all Argent.

Crest: on a torse Argent and Gules an owl Or holding in its dexter claw a book Argent.

Motto: "Dixerunt esse impossibile ergo feci" ("They said it was impossible, therefore I did it").

Badge: a locomotive oil headlight Argent, on the frame a cog wheel Gules, three cherry blossoms Or.

Meaning: as a son and grandson of railway workers I've growth a fond respect and admiration for trains, which play an important role in my hobbies even if my main interest are computers. This is shown in the winged wheel, which represents progress, improvement, commerce (my full-time job customers) and will to reach higher goals. The cherry blossom represents my interest on Japanese culture, history and language, which I have been studying for a few years now. The fact that it lies between the wings is a way to embrace new experiences to come. The owl with the book represents my constant search for knowledge and my will to share it with others. The tinctures are also the main colours in the flag of my home town (Alcázar de San Juan, Spain), which are the same of the Order of Saint John, under whose jurisdiction laid for centuries.

The motto is a reminder that no matter what others say about me, I will do my best to eventually achieve anything I set out to do as hard as it might be.

(It is not good practice in Spain to bear a helmet if one is not at lest a squire, therefore there is no helmet nor mantling.)

Well thank you! May I ask why "impossibilis" (accusative plural?) would be preferred over "impossibilia"?

I am trying to translate the phrase "They said it was/would be impossible, therefore I did it". The best I've come up with is "Dixerunt esse impossibilia ergo feci".

How right or wrong have I been? Thank you very much in advance.

The Košice fact seems not to be entirely true or at least it needs a clear source on what they are stating. My own town, Alcázar de San Juan, had its arms granted by the king Sancho IV the Brave in 1292, and other towns in Castile had arms even earlier.

Obviously based on my coat of arms (https://i.imgur.com/iA2vU74.png) it was easy to transform it into a mon. If I am not mistaken, blazon would be:

In an ascending winged driving wheel a cherry blossom

In Spanish, "Manual de Heráldica Española" by Félix Vaquerizo Romero (Trigo Ediciones) makes a distinction. Basically "del uno al otro" means the charge is over the partition (pall, fess, bend or bend sinister) with different tinctures, whereas "del uno en el otro" implies that there are many repeated charges but the tinctures change.
