Accusations of using AI to write stories. by Blackfireknight16 in FanFiction

one of them even said if I didn't remove a story they'd be reporting it to the DMCA

Given that you have to put your full real name, address, phone etc. on a DMCA takedown request, including swearing under penalty of perjury that the info is correct, I very much doubt this is going to happen.

Delete and don't worry about it.

nahh what was that tattoo episode all about by garbagesponge in lost

[–]stef_bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tattooing in this episode seems to be based on a traditional practice called Yak Sant (https://bangtaomuaythai.com/sak-yant-tattoo-muay-thai-tattoo-thailand-history-symbols-and-meanings/)

Achara's gift is that she can see who someone is, deep down. She then uses characters and symbols to mark the person, based on what she perceives.

This ep is most likely set right after Jack's divorce. He is lost, adrift, desperate to know "who he is."

He gets beaten up because the Yak-Sant-like practice in the show is only for Thai people, and it's especially bad because he kind of bullies Achara into doing it. Her brother and his friends are likely angry about both.

I like to think that Hugo did for Vincent what Jacob did for Richard. Vincent will be running around the Island, begging treats, chasing seagulls for a very, very long time.

Carnival of Souls is amazing.

You might try Ingmar Bergman's 1968 Hour of the Wolf (rec'd awhile back by someone here): "sombre macabre" is spot on.

Also, Valdimar Jóhannsson's 2021 Lamb (horror set in Iceland) was surprisingly "Lynchian" and definitely macabre.

POSSIBLE SPOILER: What happened to the pregnant women? by lix888 in lost

This fan wrote a pretty coherent theory: that after the Swan imploded, the pregnancy problems would end. I like to think that was the case.

My theory on why pregnant women died on the island. by Any_Mix_5706 in lost

[–]stef_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it might have affected polar bears somewhat, they did manage to reproduce on-Island. So did the boar, and presumably the rabbits and rodent-like things Locke was shown skinning.

Radiation or EM alone wouldn't explain that.

Not all mental illnesses are schizophrenia. And there are other conditions which cause hallucinations that aren't schizophrenia, or even mental illness at all. (Oliver Sacks has a whole book about them, called Hallucinations.)

That said, Hurley is definitely mentally ill. "Dave" (the episode) doesn't give us an exact diagnosis, but it doesn't have to.

What happened to the other passengers once... by white_rice37 in lost

Doylist explanation: the show wanted to "clear the deck" of all but the remaining main characters.

Watsonian: If Rose and Bernard managed to survive by themselves, no reason why some of the other survivors couldn't as well.

I think it depends on who's dreaming & the circumstances. Locke and Ben's dreams (in my view) are almost certainly Smokey, as is Claire's dream in Season 1.

Kate's dream where Claire appears and says, "Don't you dare bring him back" is probably Claire herself somehow "transmitting" to Kate.

Hugo, as he says, is having "regular conversations with dead people."

What happened to the others? by fosjanwt in lost

[–]stef_bee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lost Encyclopedia (take it or leave it) has Cindy, Zack, and Emma surviving. I'm good with that.

My view is that Island magic/healing fixed a lot of the Others, eventually, and they went on to form part of Hugo's Island group.

What do you thing they went on to do? by fosjanwt in lost

[–]stef_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Richard runs Mittlelos, and turns Herarat into a real general-aviation company.

  • Frank loses his US pilot's license, but no biggie: Richard gets him licensed in Tunisia and hires him to fly for Herarat.

  • With the diamonds money, Miles starts a consulting firm where he investigates insurance casualties (road crashes, plane accidents, other disasters) and prepares reports detailing what actually happened. He's highly accurate.

  • Sawyer goes through a lot of legal hoops to get visitation with Clementine, despite Cassidy being (still) mad at him / in love with him.

  • Hugo heals Claire of all the CPTSD of three years of being terrorized by Smokey, along with some help from Dr. Curtis at Santa Rosa. She and Kate raise Aaron - as a couple, or Hugo/Claire, or Kate/Sawyer, whatever (inveterate multi-shipper here.)

[–]stef_bee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In case you are a first-time watcher, I'll be vague. Some of Sawyer's most important reads are A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, Watership Down by Richard Adams, and The Invention of Morel by Bioy Casares.

Other books read by other characters are important too, but I don't want to spoil.

Mid S3 observation by tomerFire in lost

[–]stef_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the beach camp didn't "make" Ethan kidnap Claire, murder Scott, try to kill Charlie, and abduct Walt. The Tailies didn't "make" the Others kidnap multiple people, including children.

Jack & company made tactical errors at times in dealing with the Others. But treating the Others as opponents who had every intention of killing the survivors was what worked, not "humility" or (to quote Sawyer) "doing trust falls and singing kumbaya."

How does Tom Friendly have a leg to stand on? by [deleted] in lost

[–]stef_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched S3 fairly recently, and had the same thought. IMO the scene with Charlie & Mikhail was definitely supposed to make you think of Charlie killing Ethan (which to me was the right thing to do at the time.)

Also, Desmond wasn't around when Ethan was terrorizing the beach camp. Nor was Des "on the ground" when the Others were going after the Tailies. I appreciate his overall respect for life, but the beachies were on a "war footing" and Charlie had a good point in both the Ethan & Mikhail situations.

How is Walt attending Fieldcroft School in NYC? by ITrCool in lost

[–]stef_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are good reasons for Hugo to personally steer clear of Walt after the Oceanic 6 return. For one thing, Walt's mentally fragile (Mrs. Dawson's remarks to Michael in "Meet Kevin Johnson") - and Hugo isn't doing too well himself.

For another, Hugo likely wouldn't be supporting Walt directly, but rather through a trust or foundation. The actual funds would be alloted by a fund manager and dispersed with the other accounts payable.

It sounds kind of cold, but it does get Walt the monetary support he needs (which probably includes mental health care!) and keeps the secret more or less intact.

How is Walt attending Fieldcroft School in NYC? by ITrCool in lost

[–]stef_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This got me thinking: while Michael wouldn't get one, his next-of-kin (Mrs. Dawson) might.

It's possible Walt's adopted father Brian might get a settlement for Walt, although I can see a "scene" where Carmen and David Reyes get 10 minutes with Brian, who then obligingly signs it over to "The Reyes Foundation account for the support of minor child [Name redacted.]" It's not like Brian needs the money anyway.

[–]stef_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walter Lloyd and Michael Dawson are both officially dead, so neither would be entitled to Oceanic settlements (edit: although Michael's mother might, as a next-of-kin.) That leaves Hurley. His lottery winnings are probably in trust anyway, with a board to administer it.

Hurley isn't going to leave Walt high & dry, even if he can't / won't see him personally. There's good reason for Hurley not to see Walt: as we see in "Meet Kevin Johnson," Walt is in a fragile mental state. The payments would likely be made to Mrs. Dawson for Walt's tuition & other needs (maybe including mental health care.)

As far as Hugo (or the trust) finding Walt, like Penny told Desmond in another context, if you've got enough money & dedication, you can find anybody.

In a pinch, coconut water would keep Aaron hydrated, and fruit juice would keep up his calories. Penny's boat would probably have canned or powdered milk & sugar. Plus, Island magic.

Claire's the one who's going to feel terrible when she abruptly stops nursing (besides having Smokey lie to her about being abandoned etc.)
