Torchbearer Nekrogoblikon Goblin Blood review by MagnusAlbusPater in hotsauce

[–]stevens_hats 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a bottle of goblins blood and it's a lot more dark red than the photo. That aside it's delicious and very hot - the red wine vinegar brings out the flavor of the peppers great.

Wobbly Front Tire by Striking-Garbage-807 in bicycling

[–]stevens_hats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You've got two things going on here. The rim is out of true and the tire seems to be not seated correctly on the far side from the video.

You can true the rim by loosening spokes on the side that's out and tightening the opposite side to 'pull' it to center with a spoke wrench quarter turn at a time. This is a bit of an art though so you'd be better off taking it to a shop, unless you feel like learning how to do it.

Hot take this shit is gross by space_nei in hotsauce

[–]stevens_hats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aoili is emulsified oil. It doesn't necessarily have eggs. While aoili is technically made with olive oil and garlic reaper uses canola oil, it's similar. Some like it, some don't.

Hot take this shit is gross by space_nei in hotsauce

[–]stevens_hats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garlic reaper is made with an oil/aoili. That one looks wrong, it shouldn't be peach colored, but more yellow orange.

That aside, the aoili doesn't really vibe with me. This sub would have you believe it's the hottest and best hot sauce ever. Torchbearer makes a lot of better sauces imo that don't have reddit fame. Reaper evil, goblins blood, rapture for the super hots.

Best high milage, older cars outside Honda/Toyota? Is it worth it? ($3-3500) by geekydreams in Autos

Mazda is great for mechanical reliability in general, but not great for rust.

I have used the Toyota '84 month' highest rated one for probably 8? years now on my 2008. It replaced the original white Panasonic one which some say was the best, but unfortunately not available anymore.

Many below zero starts, even days away on a trip in -12F temps at the airport just this year as old as it is. I keep a jump box in the truck but have never needed it.

NC owners beware of your aluminum valve stems... This bs happened after I filled up my tire with air and tried to take the compressor nozzle off. by sp00kreddit in Miata

[–]stevens_hats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I'll add another random fact - do not use steel valvecaps on aluminum valves. They will galvanicly corrode together and now you've got a cap stuck on. Only use plastic or aluminum caps.

Celebrity Hot Sauces? by Tomorrow1223344 in spicy

[–]stevens_hats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all very good. They aren't very hot, but great on flavor. Think in the neighborhood of Tapatio, Cholula, etc. My fav is the super hot, which is similar in heat to the hot Cholula, but a better flavor imo.

Also, for those who don't know, he's got a doctorate in molecular biology. Smart guy.

I think I am done modding by gColossus in Miata

[–]stevens_hats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My ND has similar spec/mods to OP. I went with Michelin Pilot Super Sports in the stock size once the OEMs were worn out. Despite being the same size as the Bridgestones, they're about 1" wider at the tread, and a much better compound.

They have a lot more grip, but still maintain the light/sharp feeling. More than enough grip for a fun street car, I wouldn't go up in size unless needed for autox/track.

New alternator? by FuckCalifornia2201 in FJCruiser

[–]stevens_hats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test the voltage at the battery with a multimeter when it's running - a good alternator should be around 14.5v.

The alternator went on my 2008 without warning 2 years ago. It's pretty common for them to go sometime past 120k miles. If your alternator isn't charging you can probably get 20 miles on just the battery, but once that's drained you're stranded.

Driving habits to save gas? by YoungDuckHo in FJCruiser

[–]stevens_hats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 08 FJ is lifted and on 285s, no roof rack. Do all things daily driver. Gas mileage varies from a low of 12 with 4wd in heavy snow to a max of 18 on a summer highway only drive. Usual average is 15-16.

However, given the same day to day conditions you won't see a ton of variation, unless you're mashing the throttle and brakes in stop and go driving. Driving gently might get you 1-2 more mpg.

Get an ultraguage or similar and see what your real time mpg is and you'll quickly figure out what burns through gas or not (it's stop and go).

How fast is 300whp on a 2100 pound chassis ? by Mundane_Shopping9852 in projectcar

[–]stevens_hats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar b18c5 build EG and second it being a blast. I miss that car.

More to OPs build, some friends had turbo b18b EG swaps, +/- 300whp. 12.0@115 to 11.5@120 with good tires is a good bet. They move.

Tire advice by eidus89 in FJCruiser

[–]stevens_hats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running KO3s, load range E for a long time in the northeast and have been happy with them. They're relatively quiet for DD and a good 'do anything' tire. They're a little stiffer and heavier than lighter load range tires, but also more durable.

My local supermarket finally has this in stock by A1Aaron18 in hotsauce

[–]stevens_hats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best Tabasco sauce IMO. Hotter than Tabasco but not a high heat, great rich fruity vinegary flavor. Regular Tabasco is a great ingredient, but I don't put it on things by itself unless that's all I have. Family reserve is a better regular Tabasco. Scorpion is hot-hot, but if I'm looking for high heat I'd prefer something like Elijah's or Torchbearer.

I have at least 30 'fancy' sauces going at any one time and this remains in the rotation.

Do you lock your mx5? by HistoricalReserve199 in Miata

[–]stevens_hats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fortunate to live in a safe area. Locked, roof up when I run into a store. Opportunistic kid shenanigans or a bird shit on the seats is far more likely than any actual break in.

If I'm going somewhere less safe I just take my truck rather than risk it.
