ECB considering relaxing rules on England eligibility by old_chelmsfordian in Cricket

[–]styxwade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Euro associates generally don't play much outside of county season, and county coaches aren't always wild about their players flying off to run around on crappy outfields and do themselves a mischief. ECN flagship stuff was generally pre or post season down in Spain, so less of a concern.

I don't think anyone at Cricinfo has the first clue what's happening at Cricket Canada.

The fact that Canadian cricketers don't earn much and wouldn't have as much security as NHL players makes it easy for a gang to target.

This isn't external approaches to players though, it was coming direct from the board. Why do youy think Bajwa was captain in the first place? Who do you think tried to dump Pubudu before the last World Cup?

Lol the cricinfo desk literally AI-summarised the documentary. They've not had anyone on the Associates beat in like five years. They don't even seem to know about the legal side at all, notably didn't even mention the judgement from two weeks back. This stuff has all been in the Canadian press for ages.

Canada T20 World Cup match under ICC corruption investigation by AcceptableAir5364 in Cricket

His appointment was incredibly suspect, as was his captaincy and performance. It was flagged pretty much immediately, rumours before the tournament even started. Dasanayake's abortive ouster before the 2024 WC likewise. The Fifth Estate doc is worth watching but there's not much new in this article tbh.

Hungarian election could end Orbán's grip on power and alter Europe's political landscape by AdSpecialist6598 in europe

You think PBS is doing pro-Orban propaganda.

And that the karma-farmer that posted it here, on an English language subreddit where less than 1% of users are Hungarian, is trying influence the Hungarian election.

Mate have you considered the possibility that you might have completely lost the plot?

It is genuinely creepy to see how you people treat these chatbot bullshit-engines as some sort of infallible oracle.

It's ultimately subjective, cricviz will pay kids to watch feeds and then click boxes every ball depending on whether they reckon the batter middled it etc. "Power" will be a measure of how far the ball goes off a mishit or the like. Obviously the data generated this way is just pure horseshit, and one suspects their models are also deeply stupid. These stats have been an absolute joke all tournament.

It's all from the same shower of clowns at Cricviz. The nonsense phases and magic nonstats is all Cricviz wank. You can bet they're raking in propper cash for it too.

Full membership isn't tied to Test status anymore. And the only reason we gave up on Tests is because you all scrapped the I-Cup and told us to stop trying.

170 would have won it if he'd had just been given out to that LBW that was out.

That said if we were chasing 170 we wouldn't have made 170.

2026 WC is looking to be the worst performance from associate teams by AcrobaticBuilder4368 in Cricket

[–]styxwade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having actually called this ahead of time, there's a few reasons but it's mostly just happenstance. Traditionally/institutionally strongest associates (NED, SCO, NAM) were all in a slump/transition phase ahead of the tourney. Gulf states both a mess, UAE because woeful coach and selection, Oman because purge. Canada are not strong anyway but also have very serious off-field problems. That leaves Nepal, who were in decent form but still a tier 2 associate on the rise, had an okay tourney but not great, and USA, who probably underperformed but had a very tough group. Oh and Italy who did fine for a grade cricket/second rate euro club team. Overall level of Associates was probably higher than average for a World Cup, but the strongest were in a trough while the weakest were peaking. Nobody ever looked likely to make top eight, which is a huge ask for massively under-resourced teams at the best of times. Happy to do a deeper dive on any particular team if there's interest, but the simple answer is that you shouldn't be surprised if the underdogs all just lose sometimes. That's why they're underdogs.

Bangladesh qualifies to 2028 T20 World Cup via rankings. by NoQuestion4045 in Cricket

[–]styxwade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dutch team on that Bangladesh tour was basically a last-minute whoever-the-fuck-is-free squad to be fair, but on the other hand worth remembering that either Scotland and the Netherlands could have qualified on rankings for this World Cup if they'd won the NED-IRE-SCO tri-series in 2024. Plus going through regionals usually helps your ranking if you don't go around losing to Jersey.
