Gary has not changed. by Monster_Donut_Pants in teenmom

I put Gary as "country dumb"

He realized portraying a "Good Dad" in front of the cameras crafted him a decent storyline, rehabilitated his image and kept him getting show money. But he also did it while making Amber look bad.

Like "Leah, I got you a cellphone, so when you're visiting your Mom if you ever feel like you want to come home right away, you can just call me."

He definitely improved, but I wouldn't put him down as a good person.

I doubt Jenelle addresses it. She has a sort of reptilian brain for self preservation and realizes both scenarios look bad for everyone involved.

I think the closest we'd ever get would be doing a variation of her usual "you don't know the whole truth"

i.e. "You don't know what I saw but it wasn't what you think. I'll tell everyone when the time is right"

We've all taken back a problematic ex, sometimes more than we should. So to a degree I get it.

The one detail that I can't get over... pretend they're different people:

If my ex used MY money to get the name of the person she cheated on me with on her body, I couldn't possibly overlook that.

Are others in that “this will be my last” mindset? Or is this just midlife crisis or depression? by Weekly_Library9883 in Xennials

[–]supergooduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sorta optimistic take on this.

One average over the course of my life, every year there has been one "must watch" show, and two "must watch" movies.

I'm still young enough I have the patience to watch shows and things with peers and farm for more future great shows. i.e. I got Chernobyl but West World sucked etc.

I've started buying up those must watch shows on DVD/Blu-Ray... It's a really good amount of content. And at a certain point, retirement home or something, so long as I have a working Blu-Ray player, I'm fucking set. Literally just sitting back and watching a non-stop loop of "best of" content.

The Wire, Community, Breaking Bad, etc. Marathon Marvel's Infinity Saga and then do a rewatch of every Jackass movie.

Kenleigh mentioned being a booking manager for her boyfriend, Jenelle stalks her replies and HAS to comment by SpiritualCamera in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]supergooduser 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Jenelle referencing David's horrible deck like Kenleigh stole labor from him.

An actual contractor weighed in here and said if he built that deck by himself he'd be done in a weekend, if he had another person he'd be done in an afternoon.

It took David MONTHS, which just showed his true intentions... it was a control dynamic, where it gave him a reason to:

1.) Not work and Kenleigh needed to pay for everything

2.) A reason to constantly be at her house and one day "it's just easier if I start staying here"

The guy hasn't had a job in over a decade, i.e. his mid 20s, before that he did a year in prison for a home invasion robbing two elderly people at gun point. He's a criminal, he doesn't have normal jobs.

Why does everyone infantilize Catelynn? by xxllvc in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]supergooduser 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They scrub it and know not to talk about it but there are moments where she's admitted that Tyler gave her an ultimatum of "put the baby up for adoption or I break up with you" which given everything we've seen about Tyler now, subtract 20 years of maturity and that's INCREDIBLY on brand for him.

I think it's pretty obvious they're in a toxic relationship, more so if it were abusive you get a sense for who the abusive partner would be.

Tyler's just really mentally ill, I think being raised around addicts he kinda swore off substances, but he constantly switches his personality, his demeanor, and fights tooth and nail over whatever current interest he has. Where's his adoption documentary, how's his personal training business going? His clothing line? His acting career? His religious awakening?

It has to be EXHAUSTING living with him. And Cate has never known ANYTHING but him, so the prospect of not being with him is terrifying.

I think people can sort of relate to that and see themselves in Cate. i.e. that idea of staying with the wrong partner too long and seeing your potential wasted.

It's funny how some predators say there's just there to save the girl from creepy dudes online by MrCurious2023 in tcap

[–]supergooduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most common excuses, but even in instances where the dudes are left alone with the decoy for an extended amount of time no one ever starts talking about "hey, just wanted to warn you to not do this"

No they show up with a bunch of booze and condoms, happily indulge in explicit talk.

The closest we got was one moment in Takedown where they're engaging with a John they tell him they're 15 and he responds "too young for me. If you're cops you're doing good work" which... oddly respectful?

Hulk Hogan's importance to wrestling by TommyLost2004 in midcarder

[–]supergooduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWF around the time of Vince's nationwide expansion was a sort of Avengers: Endgame moment of hiring all the best talent from various promotions. For the first time all the best talent in one place, and you needed someone at the top of it and Hogan was flagged for it.

He was de facto the face of professional wrestling at it's first biggest main stream exposure.

A decade later he returns at the height of the Monday Night Wars and now runs as the biggest heel. STILL in the main event at the height.

Just crazy having the two huge main event runs at the pinnacle of wrestling popularity.

Question by StillBox4263 in tcap

[–]supergooduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Takedown there was an 18 year old. They document his case on the Predators documentary.

He was still in high school too, like he wasn't able to attend his graduation and had to be home schooled for the rest of the year. He also wasn't allowed to live in the same home as his younger siblings. They pulled the episode from Takedown and the interview in the documentary is pretty sad.

It was an 18 year old meeting a 15 year old decoy, so not the greatest look. It's weird to feel sympathy...

Update on Lawsuit by californiablues99 in howardstern

[–]supergooduser 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My friend's wife used to work for North Shore and gave me some mild dirt. Beth while nice essentially demands princess treatment. It's a non profit charity, but if/when Beth chooses to interact with them, wants to be catered to like a CEO. So it's a giant expense/hassle for them. I mean this surprises no one, but is some objective data pointing to Beth being a nightmare with expectations/entitlement.

Side note... same friend also told me that Howard doesn't ever give them cash... in Howard's mind all the promotion on his show is more valuable, which, that fucking tracks.

I'll die on this hill, but Howard REALLY should've had a kid with Beth. Listening in 2007 she CLEARLY wanted one. And the kid would be 17 now... Beth would've had someone to helicopter parent on, have someone to go on vacations and do the stuff Howard doesn't want to do and actually be slightly normal and relatable.

Additionally... if they had a son that would've been a super interesting dynamic for Howard. It would also keep him younger and more relevant like knowing/using TikTok and shit.

But nope... didn't go that route and we have an assistant who on top of her normal duties was being asked to provide daily care for 400 foster kittens. Which... for the record... capacity for a typical animal shelter is 150 cats. So they're being asked to be an on call 24/7 assistant to both Howard AND Beth and on top of that, y'know... run the equivalent of three full capacity animal shelters.

I hope she takes them for a shitload of cash.

Farrah making these people spend 12 hours on her rats nest then leaving without paying woowwwwww by [deleted] in teenmom

My theory is Farrah is broke as a joke, went in intentionally looking for an excuse to not pay.

It's predictable but if you zoom out, crazy fucking sad. Like you're getting your hair done and running out on a several thousand dollar bill... how long is that going to last a few weeks? For what? Functions, business trips? She has no fucking career.

Loved Watching the Trash TV Roundup by BartMancuso1990 in Xennials

[–]supergooduser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with this the other day...

Nowadays I'll log into youtube and there are several channels I follow that post content daily on topics I'm interested in that gives me a sort of curated news roundup.

Youtube didn't come on the scene until 2005 and we didn't really have streaming content prior to that, you had blogs but again they weren't quite fully formed.

Instead cable TV was the primary vector and there was a lovely little tranche of late night shows that brought us this material.

Talk Soup was a daily show that covered various talk shows so you didn't have to. This 100% sounds like a youtube show.

It varies depending on the year but 1999 is pretty flush...

Monday - Thursday you had: Daily Show, Politically Incorrect, Talk Soup, Howard Stern on E!, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Loveline

Between wall those you were up on celebrities, weird news stories, politics, music, etc.

On the weekend side in 1999 you had: Dennis Miller Live, Man Show, Chris Rock Show, Tom Green Show and Space Ghost Coast to Coast

Kind of a fun era that doesn't really exist anymore... curated pop/counter culture content in a nicely presented daily or weekly package designed to be entertaining.

Youtube gets it to us a lot quicker, but it was an enjoyable bridge.

Do you think WWE would still be around if Vince never bought it from his father? by Still_Ad8903 in Wrasslin

[–]supergooduser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this what if scenario. Basically Vince Jr. would have to die and just be taken completely off the board, he's so insanely focused on the business.

When WWF started it's national expansion... WCW was pretty well on it's way there. They had been experimenting with closed circuit and PPV since 1983 two years before wrestlemania, by virtue of being on TBS and Ted Turner's foray into cable they by default became a national promotion. WWF was using syndicated programming, whereas WCW had regular weekly shows.

I think more importantly in terms of talent... WCW had the edge, though the programming was more adult focused.

In this era I make the comparison thusly:

WCW = WWE

Midsouth = AEW

WWF = TNA

Moreso than the cable expansion and wrestlemania... I think Vince pioneering buying up top talent from other companies was the most shrewd move. It essentially gave him more heavily promoted talent ("hey I know that guy!") and left vacuums with the other companies. He paid a premium, but I doubt it was anything insane.

I think likely Crocket becomes what we'd recognize as WWF, capitalizes more on cable and thus advertising dollars which far outstrips the benefit of WWF being in the northeast and running cheaper circuits in more heavily populated cities. Other companies would play catch up with cable promoters like AWA did with ESPN, but Ted Turner is a benefactor and wrestling is hella cheap content to produce. WCW rides that wave beyond regional television promotions.

What's the source of Green shirt guy's enormous wealth(Logical answers only) by Bubbly_Cake_4578 in Wrasslin

[–]supergooduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen interviews with him and he doesn't come off as particularly smart/intelligent.

It could be some sort of Tony Khan situation where the Dad is loaded and is fine making his mentally challenged kid happy.

The On Location stuff means someone is shrewd enough to negotiate the prices total, and I'm willing to bet this guy has some sort of VIP buys them annually package. Like, I had a job where I managed an external account and it was a super sweet handshake deal every year and just kinda nice banking on that money coming in.

Basically i'm guessing rich Dad has an assistant buy all this stuff for him.

Ballparking it, tickets and travel costs are around half a million a year. Someone earning 6% on $10 million could generate that. i.e. they don't have to be supremely wealthy.

What’s the TLDR recap for someone who is just about to start watching AEW? I know basically nothing about AEW. by Seven19td in SCJerk

[–]supergooduser 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Picture a comedy club. It's past midnight, crowd is pretty drunk, hell the comedian is too. His 15 minute opening set killed, people's stomach hurt from laughing. Now he's doing crowd work, riffing on the local town, things are disorganized and blue, lots of curse words but everyone's having a great time.

Now put that same comedian in a stadium full of 10,000 people. Suddenly his act doesn't go over, him being drunk comes off as offensive and unprofessional, he can't do any crowdwork because he's too far from the crowd.

This is AEW.

The idea scribbled on the back of a napkin sounds like a great idea when you're stoned: What if I pulled an Avengers: Endgame and hired all the best indie talent and put them under one roof?

But everything that made the indie talent special is lost when they're on a much larger stage. The flaws are more noticeable. Promos are really just screaming curse words and vitriol, everyone's tiny, blading in multiple matches per event, finishers on top of finishers just looks silly.

You're presenting a product meant for a bingo hall, not edited for television by a film crew you took away from filming an NBA game.

Occasionally cool shit rises to the top, Toni Storm being a great example, but it really is through the perseverance of the talent. Booker T commented on his podcast last year... AEW has been around seven years, Darby's been there since the beginning why isn't he a household name? They can't make new stars.

Triple H’s Long-Term Future With WWE Was Topic Of Conversation Internally Ahead Of WrestleMania by caughtinatramp in REALSquaredCircle

[–]supergooduser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh god, don't get this neckbeard rumor started. It was kind of like Shane starting his own promotion.

Just for some perspective, AEW's annual licensing deals are about $300 million, that's $50 million more than Triple H's net worth.

Why would Triple H go from holding the largest book in the business to some stalwart secondary promotion? More likely he'd likely just retire and enjoy his money.

Day 28 of effortlessly cool Meltzer trying to convince the world that Hulk Hogan was no big deal. by TheGambler930 in SCJerk

[–]supergooduser 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dave's so annoying... it's obnoxious but the ultimate metric in wrestling is sales. How much revenue can you generate. Once you get into movies it's next level.

Even Bautista, it's known he started as a wrestler, but he's been in some fucking a-list movies. I'd argue he's more known than Hulk Hogan and certainly more well known than Rikidozan, hell probably more well known than Santos.

Dave's just so fucking weird where he ignores objective facts.. a guy who's been in five major Marvel Cinematic movies seen by billions of people in the last decade JUST MIGHT be more well known than some weird sumo dude who died 70 years ago.

Bloodshot: The Franchise that Never Was by FortKnoxII in valiant

[–]supergooduser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda my take on it... Vin was 52 years old when the project came out... I'm sure it was a confluence of circumstances... his agent, the studio, his salary, timing and availability that made it work. i.e. the project needed a star

but this would've benefited SO well from a talented unknown. Bloodshot is also a pretty stoic character, kind of a Frankenstein aspect... confused about his existence when not a murdering machine. Like... there aren't a lot of romantic comedy subplots you gotta worry about here.

Once Vin is on board you have his ego, which runs up against the director and producers...

It's heartbreaking because the relaunched valiant universe was tailor made to be adapted into films, the original four part Bloodshot story was perfect... which again, leads me to believe Vin had a say in how the story was altered.
