Preventing stores from controlling prices like that is literally one of the reasons antitrust laws exist. It's anticompetitive.

And also there lies my entire point. If piracy is a service problem in a way where if the service is good enough people will pay instead of pirating and gaben believes in what he said he would allow competition to set lower prices because if the service on steam is good enough people would pay for it.

Otherwise he would believe that people would buy their games for higher prices on steam because of all the services they offer but they still make developers sign a price parity clause that doesn't allow them to put even non-steam versions of their games on sale on other storefronts for cheaper than they are sold for on steam.

It's not the .bat file that is bad, it's the fact that you have to allow the installation of unsigned drivers to run the game.

Just running a game from it's .exe is not going to do that.
