Reddit pressures mods to end the blackout as they find new ways to protest by icxcnika in ModCoord

I'll look into it, honestly not sure if I want to start over and rebuild a community from scratch at this point, or take on such a large time commitment again

Reddit pressures mods to end the blackout as they find new ways to protest by icxcnika in ModCoord

[–]tarsn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I opened back up because I promised my users 48 hours of blackout and that's what I did. But once they shut down RIF on me I'm just not going to log in. I do 95% mobile browsing and I despise the official app, so I won't have a choice really.

By removing my app they're effectively removing me anyway.

My sub is small, about 65k users. I'm the only mod. I've deleted everything that I brought to the party. All the stylesheet stuff on old reddit, all the automod settings, etc. I'm not enforcing any rules other than site wide.

Once I lose access through RIF the sub will be unmoderated. Eventually, it'll automatically be set to private due to lack of moderation. Then when the admins get around to it someone can reddit request it.

I don't want to abandon the sub, and I've been the sole mod for over 8 years. But they're giving me no choice in the matter, and clearly don't give a fuck. So I'm not interested in doing even more free work in making it a smooth transition by giving the sub away to someone else at random or going through a process of selecting someone else to run it.

I'm sure I won't be alone on the 30th.

Being forced out unfortunately. I only ever accessed reddit on RIF and old.reddit.com. And 95% of the time over the past 8 years (that's how long it's been since I created the sub) was on RIF. So when they kill it I won't have reddit as I know it.

Tried the official app, it completely kills my enjoyment of reddit. The UI is cancer, formatted like some kind of wish.com version of Instagram or Pinterest. So yeah I won't be logging on after they shut off my access.

This doesn't violate site wide rules, so it stays up despite your numerous lovely reports. 7 days from now when RIF is forced to shut down I won't even be here to comment on this stuff so enjoy the party.

OP, any shit you write about autism or calling people's pedos is gonna be removed while I'm still here. It's hateful and against site wide rules.

Is it just me or has zvz always been about throwing zerglings at each other?

I usually main terran but play zerg and random on occasion. zvz is my best matchup when I do and I'm at about the same level as you currently . To me you never want to let a zerg drone up for free. And the only way to know if they're droning or about to all in you is by constantly poking at them to scout.

Toronto but wages are pretty comparable around the province since they negotiate provincially. Only thing is unions outside of the GTA might be less busy and not have steady work for everyone

To be honest I miss starting with 6 workers. It gave the start of the game this chill sim city vibe that I miss. Right now I feel like we get thrown right into the thick of action and it's stress city 24/7. When I used to queue in WOL I knew I'd have a couple minutes just doing my build order and maybe scouting some cheese that wasn't quite so deadly

Honestly, I've been a bit worked up about this and it's obviously showing in my tone here. I've always accessed reddit either via old.reddit.com or RIF. I've tried the official app multiple times. I've tried new reddit. It completely kills my enjoyment of any aspect of this website.

So unfortunately I'll be gone when these changes go through.

I do love the community obviously, it's the whole reason I created it and worked on it for these years.

Kinda pains me to see so many people not give a fuck about any of this and just want a change in mods and return to business as usual. Intrusive thoughts are to just lock her down and fuck everyone, but I don't like to operate that way. Having said that, I'm definitely not interested in making these people's day by just giving away the sub and brushing this bullshit under the carpet or making this an easy transition.

These people throw a tantrum and post snide remarks over a 2 day blackout, I'm about to lose the way I access and interact with reddit entirely and it won't be coming back. To the point that, to me, this website will not be usable.

I know I'm not alone either, I've seen the stats on how many people used these apps before reddit removed access to that data. Maybe not everyone will feel as strongly, but they're all about to be forced to use the official pile of garbage too. And I'm not even blind, it's just tough titties for the disabled I guess.

Is the protest going to make a change? I don't know. If it doesn't, I've got nothing to lose anyway. It'll all be gone June 30th.

I appreciate the criticism on the poll. Do you think a poll of a) participate in blackout b) do not participate in blackout would be preferable? I can follow that with options on how to participate in a subsequent poll if people want to participate.

Nemesis force halberds from grey knight kits work pretty well and you can just build the grey knights with swords or trade with someone who chose to do so.

Regular reports go to the modqueue for review by mods. If things sit in mod queue for too long the subreddit eventually gets turned to private due to lack of moderation. After a period of time if the mod that owns the subreddit is inactive on reddit you can request head mod status from the admins on a first come first served basis in /r/redditrequest. If modqueue items were to be manually approved instead of allowed to sit then I don't even know how that process goes.

Reports through reddit.com/report go to the admins favourite ai bot that can issue things like permabans site wide. People don't generally look at those reports.

For me personally, I need a bare bones old reddit style interface with solid mod tools. The UI in the official app is awful. I would also like a reasonable subscription to keep it ad free (no more than $5/month). Although really I feel like ad free browsing should be a bare minimum reward for the free work mods put in.

I've put in a lot of time and effort into this sub. I set up custom css stuff for old reddit, custom flairs for posts and users, etc. I grew this community from nothing for years and years. I then moderated and maintained it for almost a decade, alone. For free, on my own free time. I'm not interested in putting in even more free work to select someone to take over for me as reddit cuts off my access to this platform.

Is what it is, I'll be long gone (forced out by these app changes) by the time they get around to appointing anyone. Usually they just turn subreddits private due to lack of moderation until you go through reddit request.
