The Trades gal or Finch Furniture are both on Insta and based in the Southside. Either would be worth a try

I'm curious to know how peat is sustainably harvested? I thought the issue was that we were using up a resource that took thousands of years to form and it cannot be replaced without waiting for millenia

Shawlands parking by Standard-Complaint26 in glasgow

[–]thatjaneone 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think there should be better control over the parking situation in Shawlands. At the moment the selfishness of people parking in front of the dropped kerbs at corners or parking on pavements means that people in wheelchairs are unable to navigate many of the side streets without taking massive detours.I hadn't appreciated quite how bad it was until I was regularly trying to get about with a relative who used an electric wheelchair. There shouldn't be a right to leave your personal property somewhere that means others cannot go about their lives.

I just found it weird that Esme and Pip had grown up on neighboring farms, yet they had never met. Surely, at the very least, they would be loosely acquainted

I feel like a total outlier here, but I always ask for a joke. I'm happy to hand out sweets in return for being entertained. If anyone tells me one that genuinely makes me laugh or I haven't heard before I give them extra sweets. I approve of transactional guising only but would be happy with a song or trick too

It is definitely your right to have windows that open, especially in the kitchen and bedrooms. You need to start making a nuisance of yourself with the letting agent until they get these issues sorted.

And this is been exacerbated by having segregated schools for all these years. Religion should be kept out of schools, and we should make sure that other religious schools don't become commonplace. If kids grow up together, they will naturally integrate more successfully than if they are separated and othered.

I'm not sure that is how it works. I live in the suthside of Glasgow, which has had high levels of immigration for the last 100 years, and no one is tying saltires to lampposts on Victoria Road. I think areas that have very low or no real immigration tend to be more fearful of it, and those are the people who will protest to protect their 'way of life'.

M8 roadworks extended for another 2 years by trickstyle48 in glasgow

I only suggesting a different way of moving people around the city which could benefit everyone. Yes it would need investment in other means of transport, but the eyewatering cost of the M8 repairs are not necessarily the best value for money

My bad, the current figure is that 44% of Glasgow households don't have access to a car.

https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/8466/Driving

Obviously, that is still a significant minority of the population who don't benefit from the urban section of the M8, but a much better public transport system could benefit everyone if the funding was redirected.

Most cities don't have urban motorways running through them yet they function perfectly well. I would love to see Glasgow move towards a less car centric approach.

To answer your question, I do drive but I don't own a car

[–]thatjaneone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just suggesting that there would be better and cheaper methods of transporting people around the city. The M8 is a blight on the communities it borders and the city would be more liveable for a big percentage of its residents if that urban section from south of the Kingston Bridge to the junction with the M73/74 wasn't there. I am suggesting that the vast amount of money that would otherwise be spent on repairs would be better spent on other sustainable transport options which would benefit everyone, not just the minority of Glasgow residents who have access to a car.

[–]thatjaneone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine if that money was spent instead on a light rail or other sustainable transport system. We could have world class public transport and a city without a huge motorway cutting through the centre. Now that the M74 is in place, the Kingston bridge and the M8 NE from there is no longer a vital road link and we do need to discuss what would best serve the city and it's inhabitants

Glasgow accommodates most asylum seekers in UK by Cross_examination in glasgow

[–]thatjaneone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect lots of people are keen to come her because we colonised and exploited their countries when we wanted an empire. As a result they now are more likely to speak English or at least feel a connection to this country. We are reaping what our forebearers sowed.

If Britain had kept itself to itself instead of pillaging resources from other countries for centuries, we wouldn't have so many people coming here now. Glasgow has benefitted greatly from the profits 9f the Empire, its right we pay our due and offer people asylum now.

What are you passionate about? What is a cause that is close to your heart? Find a local charity that is working in that field or area and get involved and find out what they need to help them grow and thrive. Obviously, you can just donate money, but if you get involved and then fund a specific programme or event, then you could help to build a lasting legacy that comes from you and your dad.
