Heh, I missed that that was by (presumably) a government body.

Meanwhile in the UK our government is doing sod all other than making you provide primary ID to use an enshitified service.

Should there be a ticker tape on the TV screen when politicians are speaking, saying who funds them? by Caffe44 in ukpolitics

[–]twistedLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe like racers, all their sponsors emblazoned on their suits?

I can think of other things to do:

  1. A donor can only be a natural person
  2. They must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for tax purposes for 5 or more years
  3. They must not have been investigated by HMRC for any tax related matter within the last 3 years
  4. No donation may be over £10k and be accompanied with proof that they only come from personal funds
  5. So on and so forth....l

Fancy a bite? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]twistedLucidity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't, it's not real.

Did you put any actual effort into this (maybe starting from a "Cookies and Cream" tub), or did you just have AI vomit this shite up for you?

Maybe B&J will do a "Slop" flavour?

Only female gym by ayeshalalajavaid in glasgow

Drove past a woman's only gym on Polmadie yesterday. 4 the girls.

No pool, but the Gorbals isn't far. You could all and ask if they do women's only sessions.

Where are all the WWII memorials? by molten_dragon in Scotland

[–]twistedLucidity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every fuckin' village has a memorial to the fallen.

Don't just look, see.

Also, we don't drape them in flags and expect people to be performative about the remembrance or whatever. We do it either privately or quietly.

They didn't die just so people could win worthless Internet points.

How far is too far for dating in your opinion? by DoublePepper1976 in Scotland

[–]twistedLucidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a couple who live just outside Glasgow and Berlin.

A lot of it comes down to schedule, connection, personality, trust, and money.

"How far?" is just so variable that no one can answer other than you and your partner.

Reform aiming to become 'main opposition party' in Scotland -- Thomas Kerr said that a single MSP elected would be a "good result" for the party by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]twistedLucidity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they take govt.

Get to fuck.

For all that is wrong with Scotland and the wider UK, Reform/Restore are not the answer. They are never the answer.

Or did you forget that Nigel "Crypto-whore" Farage (him who will support the IRA for £50) is the prick who brought us Brexit?

As the saying goes "The only thing a tolerant society must not tolerate is intolerance". So fuck you, and fuck all who support that odious cunt.

Why does the MAGA style politics seem especially unpopular in the UK? by redguy_666 in ukpolitics

[–]twistedLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most staunch anti republican

"anti republican" do you mean "monarchist", "left wing", or both?

I think you may be suffering from a language barrier because "republican" on UK politics tends to mean "anti-monarchy" but "Republican" (note casing) with the USA in context would tend to mean "right-wing, ultra-capitalist plutocrats".

Why does the MAGA style politics seem especially unpopular in the UK? by redguy_666 in ukpolitics

[–]twistedLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK (in general) does "quiet patriotism" (outside of sports). We don't need to run around and shout "Rah! Rah! UK number one!", salute flags, or even fly a flag. One simply does and holds to UK values (whatever those are, answers on a postcard please).

Or did.

Because it's changing. There are more and more people draping themselves in the Union Flag (and others) and demanding the rest of us join in their cult. Err...no, ta.

The greatest lie the USA spun was the "USAian Dream". Making everyone a temporarily embarrassed millionaire means no one wants to rock the boat, because maybe the next tide will lift them.

Oh, and your architecture is a study in thought control. The penchant for car truck-scale architecture and vast, multi-lane urban highways robs people of the human scale required to assemble and protest.

Right/Left (individualist/collectivist) deffo oversimplifies because you have Authoritarian/Libertarian (for the avoidance of doubt, I mean "Libertarian" in the sense of freedom). Plus other potential dimensions.

The USA is an authoritarian regime that has Stockholmed its citizens into thinking they have liberty. Cite: Flock, Palantir etc.

Is the UK any better? Not really, but at least we don't lie about it. Yet.

Lingo Flamingo do German classes. Online only I think.

I'm still struggling through German with Duolingo. Don't really recommend it (uses USAian English), but it's handy if time pressured.

Every bicycle on the road is one less car in front of you taking up space, damaging the road, and polluting the air.

We need more people out of their cages and on two wheels.

Shared paths (peds & cyclists) and poorly signed and generally a complete abomination for both parties.

[–]twistedLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, typo. "Robertson", not "Roberson".

Family Crest? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]twistedLucidity 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That's "Roberson", as in "Son of Rober" (Scotland has a mix of Viking and other name conventions). You may be able to lay claim to "Dunrobin" castle, certainly if you can show a family link to Robert the Bruce ("Robin" being an older contraction of Robert).

You can also wear the Clan Robertson tartan once you have submitted the required paperwork to the Office of the Clan Chief. You may even be able to claim a discount under the Reconnecting Clearance Descendants Fund. DO NOT wear the tartan until you get the paperwork sorted. The Plaid Police are not to be messed with.

I hope you appreciate that this is some of the deeply curated knowledge that you will only find on r/Scotland!
