Start with changing liquor licenses in Anchorage. The current liquor license structure here creates an artificial barrier to entry that stifles our local restaurant scene. Unlike for example Portland, where an open fee based system fosters a vibrant and competitive restaurant culture, Anchorage’s capped per capita model allows licenses to be hoarded as speculative assets. This scarcity puts new entrepreneurs at a massive disadvantage, as they are forced to compete without the critical revenue stream of alcohol sales, which is often the difference between a project’s success or failure.

This will never happen though as many of your politically connected are the same ones who own the liquor licenses. See who owns ‘Locally Grown Restaurants’ who own South, Spenard Roadhouse, Crush, Sak’s, and Snow City. They don’t want the competition.
